Great escapist story。 Not a happy ever after book。

This took me an age to read for some reason but I enjoyed it nonetheless。

I read this quickly, but found the characters incredibly annoying! Just wanted to tell them all to sort themselves out!!

Enjoyed The book is narrated from 3 perspectives - Gemma, Jojo and Lily。 Gemma holds a grudge against Lily for stealing her boyfriend, Jojo is having an affair and Lily is worried about karma。 This is the third book by this author I read and it was quite engaging。 The stories revolve around anger, resentment, guilt, fear and the complexities of love。 The characters are flawed and confused like real people but also ambitious and resilient and their character development is well written。 Even thou Enjoyed The book is narrated from 3 perspectives - Gemma, Jojo and Lily。 Gemma holds a grudge against Lily for stealing her boyfriend, Jojo is having an affair and Lily is worried about karma。 This is the third book by this author I read and it was quite engaging。 The stories revolve around anger, resentment, guilt, fear and the complexities of love。 The characters are flawed and confused like real people but also ambitious and resilient and their character development is well written。 Even though I thought 'Sushi for Beginners' and 'Grown ups' were much better than this book it is still really really good。 。。。more

I’m usually ambivalent about Marian Keyes。 Some of her books I’ve enjoyed but others have annoyed me so much I’ve done a lot of skimming and then given up。 I thought this 2004 novel would be a skimmer too but I ended up loving it and devoured it in three days (and it’s a big book!)。 If you’re a writer you’ll enjoy the behind the scenes in a literary agency chapters。 The writing of books chapters though are a bit of a fairy tale。 Technology has come a long way since this was written - no need to I’m usually ambivalent about Marian Keyes。 Some of her books I’ve enjoyed but others have annoyed me so much I’ve done a lot of skimming and then given up。 I thought this 2004 novel would be a skimmer too but I ended up loving it and devoured it in three days (and it’s a big book!)。 If you’re a writer you’ll enjoy the behind the scenes in a literary agency chapters。 The writing of books chapters though are a bit of a fairy tale。 Technology has come a long way since this was written - no need to print out manuscripts and post them with a self-addresses envelope anymore, thank goodness。 。。。more

Absolutely wonderful read!Between Jojo , Gemma and Lily I couldn’t decide which story was my favorite ! The perfect book for any occasion, I rate this a solid 10/10!

Such a fun and enjoyable read。 I especially liked reading about the inner workings of the publishing industry。 The writing, the characters all of it made this book unputdownable。 Despite being over 600 pages, this one was a breeze to read。

On one hand, I loved it。 It’s Marian Keyes, who is one of my favourite authors。 Commonly known as chic lit, Keyes stories are usually full of heroines whose lives are inevitably changed by, sometimes horrific, life events。 It was exactly the kind of book I needed to read at this time of life。 On the other hand, it simple wasn’t long enough。 I wanted to keep reading about the characters and what happened after the epilogue。 Maybe a bit too much filler for three separate stories? I hated Mark and JOJONone of the characters were appealing 。skip it 。 Mark was a spineless loser , there was no reason for him to be so head over heels for JOJO, and so horribly nasty to his wife 。 I actually hated both of them and most of the characters 。 Only Gemma was tolerable 。

The story is about 3 different women who’s lives all entwine with each other, as they discover that theres always more than one side to every story。•There’s Jojo a high flying agent who’s jumped into bed with her boss。Theres Lily a lovely new author who has just landed a huge best selling book deal, but all of a sudden gets writers block。& Gemma a sassy event designer who’s personal life is currently down the drain due to a family drama。 •Within reading the first few chapters your thrown into Ge The story is about 3 different women who’s lives all entwine with each other, as they discover that theres always more than one side to every story。•There’s Jojo a high flying agent who’s jumped into bed with her boss。Theres Lily a lovely new author who has just landed a huge best selling book deal, but all of a sudden gets writers block。& Gemma a sassy event designer who’s personal life is currently down the drain due to a family drama。 •Within reading the first few chapters your thrown into Gemma’s world & find out what family drama she’s having to deal with。 I will say i find Gemma’s mum annoying, shes far too dependable on her daughter, when she has her own life to live。 I loved how the story is told from each woman’s point of view & you’re able to see their personalities。 •I’m a huge Marian Keyes fan so i really enjoyed this book & would recommend it to an avid chick flick reader who is looking for an easy read。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 for me。 。。。more

Marian Keyes always delivers a lovely read but they rarely leave me thinking I’ve read a literary masterpiece。 This book is no exception

A re-read as couldn’t work out what to read next。 Didn’t enjoy as much as the first time round but that was a long time ago!

I couldn’t finish this book。 Gemma and her mother were pathetic characters。 Maybe this victim mentality appealed in 2004 but it doesn’t work in 2021。

Alison Posey

This is the first time I’ve read this author before。 I saw plenty of potential but not enough to warrant a higher rating。

Predictable chic-lit, however enjoyable。 I really liked Jojo and would have liked more of her story。 The crossover of their lives was good and done pretty seamlessly。 Easy to read and plenty of laugh out loud moments

Too long, too long, too long! This 500+ read could easily have been edited down by 200 pages or more。 I found the Lily story especially a slog。 Gemma's was the most original of the three sides, and the JoJo personality kept her interesting。 I did want to know how it ended up for all of them。 I'm a fan of Keyes, but didn't find this to be her best work。 Too long, too long, too long! Very enjoyable read! Took a bit to get into the formatting of the division of characters storylines playing out; but not bad。 Characters were like able, funny at times, frustrating at others。 A different type of story than I’ve read。 I’d recommend it。

It read like cotton candy - some attraction in the sweet, but then just cloying and sticky and you don't quite know what to do with it。 I admit I did not finish - the way the main character's parents are depicted felt a little insulting - they would be, after all, my peers。 It read like cotton candy - some attraction in the sweet, but then just cloying and sticky and you don't quite know what to do with it。 I admit I did not finish - the way the main character's parents are depicted felt a little insulting - they would be, after all, my peers。 。。。more

Noy my favourite book。 This was my second Marian Keyes book and I have to admit that I don't love her writing style。 I don't like how it separates the story into three section and each character mainly has their own plot that don't really come together。I am giving this 3 stars because I think if it had been written differently I would have like it more。 Noy my favourite book。 This was my second Marian Keyes book and I have to admit that I don't love her writing style。 I don't like how it separates the story into three section and each character mainly has their own plot that don't really come together。I am giving this 3 stars because I think if it had been written differently I would have like it more。 。。。more

“But show me someone whose life is entirely cringe-free and I’ll show you a dead person。”This book started out strong - like 4-5 star strong。 All I wanted to do was keep reading。 But then。。。it just started to get bad, then worse and worse。 I realized you couldn’t really invest in the characters because they weren’t leading lives that were going to be bringing them anywhere。 Then, maybe 70ish pages from the end, the switch flicked and suddenly it was Revelation City: you get a growth moment, you “But show me someone whose life is entirely cringe-free and I’ll show you a dead person。”This book started out strong - like 4-5 star strong。 All I wanted to do was keep reading。 But then。。。it just started to get bad, then worse and worse。 I realized you couldn’t really invest in the characters because they weren’t leading lives that were going to be bringing them anywhere。 Then, maybe 70ish pages from the end, the switch flicked and suddenly it was Revelation City: you get a growth moment, you get a growth moment, you get a growth moment!
