Summary

It's June 2008 and twenty-one-year-old Adam Lattimer vanishes, presumed dead。 The strain of his disappearance breaks his already fragile family。

Ten years later, with his mother deceased and siblings scattered across the globe, Adam turns up unannounced at the family home。 His siblings return reluctantly to Spanish Cove, but Adam's reappearance poses more questions than answers。 The past is a tangled web of deceit。

And, as tension builds, it's apparent somebody has planned murderous revenge for the events of ten years ago。

Robert

Not quite as good as her previous book, but very close to 5*

Becky Dickerson

Frazer Lattimer has six children who all want to kill him for different reasons but who did it?This book starts at the end and moves backwards, telling the narrative from 6 different perspectives, giving us more backstory as the book progresses。 I liked the idea and the narratives but I did guess most of the ending part way through。

Hacía meses que un libro no me hacía enfadar tanto。 Definitivamente no soy parte del público de esta autora o elegí un muy mal libro para conocerla。

I really didn't expect much from this after getting it on sale from audible, and after the first few chapters I had set my expectations well and truly low。 However, the flaws and problems I had at the start melted away into great character and story development that left me pleasantly surprised with and fulfilled by the ending。 I really didn't expect much from this after getting it on sale from audible, and after the first few chapters I had set my expectations well and truly low。 However, the flaws and problems I had at the start melted away into great character and story development that left me pleasantly surprised with and fulfilled by the ending。 。。。more

Very convoluted but holds together and is plausible。 I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery and didn’t solve ‘who done it?’ completely although I was close enough to feel fully satisfied by the final revelations。

I loved this book, I have such a soft spot for books set in Ireland。 I loved this family dynamic, the secrets and love they have for each other。 There was a huge twist at the end that I honestly didn’t see coming, it was brilliant。

Another wonderfully entertaining read by Jo Spain。 Great characters (even the unlikable ones) and a compelling plot。 This one was hard to put down when I needed to。 I listened to this on audio and Aoife McMahon has become a favourite narrator。 I'm looking forward to the release of another Jo Spain (The Perfect Lie later in the year。 Another wonderfully entertaining read by Jo Spain。 Great characters (even the unlikable ones) and a compelling plot。 This one was hard to put down when I needed to。 I listened to this on audio and Aoife McMahon has become a favourite narrator。 I'm looking forward to the release of another Jo Spain (The Perfect Lie later in the year。 。。。more

The story shows us the viewpoint from each of the six children。 We learn that their mother died a few years after Adam went missing, supposedly from a broken heart。 We learn that Fraze rhas the purse strings and keeps them tightly closed。 We learn that all is not rosy in Spanish Cove。I love books by Jo Spain, I haven't yet read one I didn't like。 。。。more

3,5 starsPerfect for fans of Knives Out!Some twists I did see coming, but others really hit me out of nowhere。 This book was highly enjoyable, especially because of its intricate character dynamics。 Definitely a good mystery, highly recommend!

A dysfunctional family, a party, the vile father lies dead (this is known from the start), and there are MANY suspects。 But who did the deed? As one would expect, the answer slowly teased at, but only revealed at the end。 It was worth the twisty turny journey to get there。 The narration by Aoife McMahon is outstanding as ever also。

When Adam returns home after a ten year absence during which he was presumed dead, his five siblings return to the family home and at the party to mark his engagement to Anna, their father, the obnoxious Fraser Latimer, ends up dead and they all have significant grievances against him。 A cleverly worked plot showing the devastating impact he has had on his family and how vengeance is wrought - a massive twist at the end makes for a satisfying read。

This is my second book by Jo Spain & I picked it up after enjoying ‘Dirty Little Secrets’ so much。It’s another pacey story telling the tale of a dysfunctional family who have scattered across the globe and all return home to Ireland when their brother who has been missing for 10 years suddenly appears。I love Jo Spain’s writing style & what I loved in both the books I have read is the way she writes her characters。 They are so believable & you feel yourself loathing & sympathising with them in eq This is my second book by Jo Spain & I picked it up after enjoying ‘Dirty Little Secrets’ so much。It’s another pacey story telling the tale of a dysfunctional family who have scattered across the globe and all return home to Ireland when their brother who has been missing for 10 years suddenly appears。I love Jo Spain’s writing style & what I loved in both the books I have read is the way she writes her characters。 They are so believable & you feel yourself loathing & sympathising with them in equal measures。Another satisfying read by Jo Spain & I’m off to find out what else she has written so I can dive in。 。。。more

An easy but wayyyy drawn out domestic thriller centering on a which of the 6 kids did it。I raced through it but at 420 odd pages it really took a lot to keep going。 A satisfactory but obvious conclusion but enjoyed it enough to persevere and would read the authors other novels for sure

Diane Porter

I do love Jo Spain’s writing。 She spins fantastically intriguing webs within her plots, and fills the pages with deliciously relatable characters, yet her books are such easy reading。 Very Christie-esque! Love the Irish setting too 😘

Possibly trying to be too complex for it's own good as the dysfunctional Lattimer family are the central focus of this mystery thriller。The family have reluctantly returned to Spanish Cove having been summoned by their father Frazer, the siblings are soon shocked to see brother Adam who'd vanished and was believed dead surprisingly arrived unannounced。The reunion is soon rocked as Frazer is found dead and with all the Lattimer children holding a grudge against him, the reader is left wondering w Possibly trying to be too complex for it's own good as the dysfunctional Lattimer family are the central focus of this mystery thriller。The family have reluctantly returned to Spanish Cove having been summoned by their father Frazer, the siblings are soon shocked to see brother Adam who'd vanished and was believed dead surprisingly arrived unannounced。The reunion is soon rocked as Frazer is found dead and with all the Lattimer children holding a grudge against him, the reader is left wondering what had happened for Adam to hide for a decade and the reason the reasons behind the fractious relationship with their father。With the various POVs and time jumps it was easy to get confused with the various member of the familys strand and who I was suppose to be reading。Most of the siblings were completely unlikeable and found them to be individually distinctive enough。Despite this I was still invested enough to what to know all the answers - which didn't disappoint。 。。。more

DNF。 Incredibly dull and formulaic。

The best story I’ve read from her so far。 Sometimes vengeance can be real justice。 Or can it ?
