Summary

Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered before her eyes。 On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia's family, her land, and her name。 Theo was crowned Ash Princess--a title of shame to bear in her new life as a prisoner。

For ten years Theo has been a captive in her own palace。 She's endured the relentless abuse and ridicule of the Kaiser and his court。 She is powerless, surviving in her new world only by burying the girl she was deep inside。

Then, one night, the Kaiser forces her to do the unthinkable。 With blood on her hands and all hope of reclaiming her throne lost, she realizes that surviving is no longer enough。 But she does have a weapon: her mind is sharper than any sword。 And power isn't always won on the battlefield。

For ten years, the Ash Princess has seen her land pillaged and her people enslaved。 That all ends here。

This novel may take its inspiration from Cinderella, but there is very little similarity with Charles Perrault’s creation。 This is a heroine beaten down so far the only way left for her is up。 This tale grips with its depictions of cruelty, bloodshed, torture, court intrigue, the tremulous shoots of romance and sweet childhood friendship that’s starting to strain at the seams。 Ms。 Sebastian has crafted a searing tale of a world buckling under the weight of a rapacious, warlike race and a queen w This novel may take its inspiration from Cinderella, but there is very little similarity with Charles Perrault’s creation。 This is a heroine beaten down so far the only way left for her is up。 This tale grips with its depictions of cruelty, bloodshed, torture, court intrigue, the tremulous shoots of romance and sweet childhood friendship that’s starting to strain at the seams。 Ms。 Sebastian has crafted a searing tale of a world buckling under the weight of a rapacious, warlike race and a queen whose desire to save her oppressed people might lead her down very dark paths indeed。This opening promises a trilogy as mesmerizing as the princess at its center and leaves the reader longing to find out what happens next。 。。。more

I honestly don't have a lot to say about this book。 Its leaning more towards 3。5 stars but I enjoyed reading it and don't want to be overly critical when I knew what I was getting into。 The plot was not innovative, nor did it present much that is unique to the YA fantasy princess genre。 I enjoyed the plotting and political intrigue。 There wasn't much action but it was still a compelling read, that has me excited to read the next one。 The characters weren't hugely interesting, but I am intrigued I honestly don't have a lot to say about this book。 Its leaning more towards 3。5 stars but I enjoyed reading it and don't want to be overly critical when I knew what I was getting into。 The plot was not innovative, nor did it present much that is unique to the YA fantasy princess genre。 I enjoyed the plotting and political intrigue。 There wasn't much action but it was still a compelling read, that has me excited to read the next one。 The characters weren't hugely interesting, but I am intrigued to see how they develop。 I think if I'd read this at any other time, I would have rated it lower, but I've been in a bit of a reading slump and this book definitely helped pull me out。 An average but good read! 。。。more

What attracted me to the book was of course the stunning book cover。 It sounded like any other YA fantasy and I'm surprised that I liked it as much as I did。I thought Theo was a really interesting and flawen character。 Her friendship to Cress and their development was so fascinating to read。 The book does not shy away from hard topics as in slavery, rape and physical and mental abuse, so be prepared for that!I can't wait to get my hands on the second Ash Princess book and to find out more about What attracted me to the book was of course the stunning book cover。 It sounded like any other YA fantasy and I'm surprised that I liked it as much as I did。I thought Theo was a really interesting and flawen character。 Her friendship to Cress and their development was so fascinating to read。 The book does not shy away from hard topics as in slavery, rape and physical and mental abuse, so be prepared for that!I can't wait to get my hands on the second Ash Princess book and to find out more about astrea and the magical stones。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It is a really good book。 It does have a love triangle but it does not take up the majority of the book, it's more like the subplot。 I personally loved Artemisia's character。 She is a no shit kind of person。 It is a really good book。 It does have a love triangle but it does not take up the majority of the book, it's more like the subplot。 I personally loved Artemisia's character。 She is a no shit kind of person。 。。。more

Was it some magical journey that blew my mind with epic twists at every turn and romance that warmed my heart? No, not really。The world building was excellent, the concept of magic was wonderful and the romance was quite sweet but it wasn’t THE BEST。 It seems like every basic ya fantasy book I've read and I don’t really mind。Hence the four stars and impressed smile I'm donning as I write this review:) Was it some magical journey that blew my mind with epic twists at every turn and romance that warmed my heart? La historia es entretenida, pero los personajes nunca lograron transmitirme realmente sus emociones ni logré adentrarme por completo en la narración。 Siento que está muy plana la narrativa, aunque la historia sí tenga sus puntos altos y bajos

For the first book in a debut series I think Laura has made a fantastic story。I feel like this is a good introduction to the world and the issues that Theo is faced with; genocide, torture, loss, betrayal and love。 She is self aware and reflective, hesitant and unsure, nothing is every really straightforward。 Surviving is enough until it isn’t。 I feel like the other two novels will be thicker with plot revolving around her relationships and what motivates her to continue and I’m excited to read For the first book in a debut series I think Laura has made a fantastic story。I feel like this is a good introduction to the world and the issues that Theo is faced with; genocide, torture, loss, betrayal and love。 She is self aware and reflective, hesitant and unsure, nothing is every really straightforward。 Surviving is enough until it isn’t。 I feel like the other two novels will be thicker with plot revolving around her relationships and what motivates her to continue and I’m excited to read them。 。。。more

it’s a good fantasy novel。i liked the characters well enough and i enjoyed where the plot went。i also liked the magic (if that’s what we call it?) system with the gems and how the two different people used them differently and could access their powers。i liked the characters well enough but thought they were a bit too fitted into a specific plot point。for example the princess/queen is meek and not trying to escape at all until all of a sudden she is to have the plot of this book。we have the best it’s a good fantasy novel。i liked the characters well enough and i enjoyed where the plot went。i also liked the magic (if that’s what we call it?) system with the gems and how the two different people used them differently and could access their powers。i liked the characters well enough but thought they were a bit too fitted into a specific plot point。for example the princess/queen is meek and not trying to escape at all until all of a sudden she is to have the plot of this book。we have the best friend until that’s no longer what’s needed。we have a prince that wants to help and be different than his horrible father but doesn’t really stand up until something happens that makes it necessary。and so on…it’s just a bit too easy how it’s all build up and could have been done a little less convenient。also can someone please explain to me how you make a crown rain down ash on the wearer the entire time it’s worn? how does that work? especially in the amounts described? that would have been an explanation i would have wanted but never got。i also was very confused with the language choices made。 we have some german words - kaiser, prinz, maskenball- but we have names that are a mixture of north european -swedish maybe- and some that reminded me of greek names。which was just a strange mix? and it also wasn’t explained why people where called as they were -why prinz instead of prince?i also didn’t enjoy that at the beginning the author found it necessary to keep repeating things - he could read my thoughts as if they were written on paper, for example was an interesting choice to describe something, especially since it’s in moments where it’s actually completely unimportant if the thoughts are seen/read on ones face。i also wasn’t a fan of getting told the same not very important info more than once。thankfully that stoped mostly after the first 50-70 pages。all in all it’s a good book and i do want to see where this is going but it certainly had a lot of things that older readers -aka not 14 year olds will notice and not able to overlook。 which doesn’t mean it’s a bad book it’s just the type of ya fantasy that isn’t anything super unique or special but still an enjoyable read if you’re in the mood for it。 。。。more

At first I picked this book because it was the only one available but never did I know that I would be drawn into this world quicker than I can eat a box of chocolates。 There are all sorts of twists in this book and you change your opinion about the characters every few chapters。 I love Theo, her character development is huge and I love her independent spark that she develops。 The characters all have intriguing back stories and the world of Ash Princess is well developed。 This book is a story of At first I picked this book because it was the only one available but never did I know that I would be drawn into this world quicker than I can eat a box of chocolates。 There are all sorts of twists in this book and you change your opinion about the characters every few chapters。 I love Theo, her character development is huge and I love her independent spark that she develops。 The characters all have intriguing back stories and the world of Ash Princess is well developed。 This book is a story of a broken girl who has lost everything, of a girl was supposed to be a fire queen but was reduced to the shameful title of Ash Princess by her enemies, reduced to nothing more than a lap dog。 It is a story about a broken kingdom filled with anger and hatred for their oppressors, of a princess who learns of the pain that her people have gone through and decides that she will not die a submissive girl。 She will rise up and fight until she can no longer stand。 I recommend this book and it definitely will not disappoint。 。。。more

This series was entertaining enough to finish。 It wasn’t anything special or memorable。 I feel like I’ve read this exact storyline a few times。 So it was predictable but it ticks the fantasy reader boxes。 There’s a light romance, angsty characters, magic and a revenge plot where everything seems monumental… until it’s solved seconds later。 Books fall into three categories those you read a million times, those that do the job and those you DNF (no matter the avid reader you are there is a shitty This series was entertaining enough to finish。 It wasn’t anything special or memorable。 I feel like I’ve read this exact storyline a few times。 So it was predictable but it ticks the fantasy reader boxes。 There’s a light romance, angsty characters, magic and a revenge plot where everything seems monumental… until it’s solved seconds later。 Books fall into three categories those you read a million times, those that do the job and those you DNF (no matter the avid reader you are there is a shitty series out there You。 Will。 Not。 Finish) this is the tick and flick category。 I won’t remember this one after reading another five series or so but it was an ok。 。。。more

Theo is the ash princess, a prisoner in her own home and country while watching her people suffer。 The elemental magic system is an interesting way to go that has great appeal and adds so much to the story line。 Although not well explored it terms of its use, it seems well thought out in how it forms and is structured。 I'm hoping that will be expored in far more details in books 2 and 3!In true imprisonment fashion, there are elements of abuse, both physical and sexual。 They are handled well in Theo is the ash princess, a prisoner in her own home and country while watching her people suffer。 The elemental magic system is an interesting way to go that has great appeal and adds so much to the story line。 Although not well explored it terms of its use, it seems well thought out in how it forms and is structured。 I'm hoping that will be expored in far more details in books 2 and 3!In true imprisonment fashion, there are elements of abuse, both physical and sexual。 They are handled well in my opinion but may still be triggers。 Relationships are also very interesting here, with unique dimensions of them unfolding as you read。 I did really love how women were viewed and respected in her country before the Kalovaxiams took over, and it's a favorite trope of mine for a young girl to discover both herself and her strength after being downtrodden。 。。。more

I really did enjoy this book so much。 Theo has to escape and save her people because she is destined to fight for those who lost their lives for her。 Fighting against the 10 years these people and relationships she created to have vengeance for her people。 Shows her what type of queen she has to be。

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read and I highly recommend it! The author described even the smallest thing with words that made me want keep reading more and more。 I love how each and every character had their own unique story。 Theo is a girl who endured so much yet remained strong for the sake of her people。 She carried thousands of scars that she didn’t deserve。 I loved the little romance scenes that was included although the book itself was not too focused on romance。 The story was This is one of the best books I’ve ever read and I highly recommend it! While I've read this book once before, I still found this book to be something of a paradox for me。 After all, it retains several cliches: including, worst of all, a love triangle。 😱 Yet, as I know remember, I actually adore this love triangle。 It's necessary to the story in the way so many others aren't。 Now onto the unread sequel!!
