Too odd / surreal for me。

Loved this book! Probably more of a 4-star novel if I’m being honest, but I don’t know how to use this app and all the “paranormal” genre books the goodreads algorithm sent me look dumb as hell

What a fun book! I was in a reading slump and this novel put me back on track。 It's a sort of sequel to A Wild Sheep Chase with the same nameless protagonist。 He meets all sorts of interesting people along the way。 One of them is an actor with a murky and troubled past and another is with a thirteen year old named Yuki who possesses unique abilities with her mind。 They develop an endearing father-daughter like relationship。 It has everything I love about Murakami: great characters you grow to ca What a fun book! Bra bok, i Murakami stil har den ingen spesifikk handling, men fortsatt veldig spennende, og til tider veldig melankolsk。 Også møter vi en fyr i hawaii som mangler en arm ellerno, husker ikke helt。 10/10

Murakami again, quite similar to wsc in terms of how I like it

Murakami to the core。 I've been completely inside of his world for days。 It works brilliantly as a stand alone book, but I would recommend reading A Wild Sheep Chase first, just to get some background on the characters。 Complex, weird, simple。 Murakami to the core。 I've been completely inside of his world for days。 It works brilliantly as a stand alone book, but I would recommend reading A Wild Sheep Chase first, just to get some background on the characters。 Complex, weird, simple。 。。。more

ok so this is the first book i have read by Haruki Murakami, and I would say it was very average for me。 This being said, J absolutely want to continue my reading adventure with the author。 I have always wanted to read his work and i have high hopes i will LOVE at least one。 I thought the writing style was unique and superb。 In addition, I thought it spoke to some of the ways women are viewed in Japan。 I liked all of this。 However, the book seemed rather confusing in some areas。 while this added ok so this is the first book i have read by Haruki Murakami, and I would say it was very average for me。 This being said, J absolutely want to continue my reading adventure with the author。 I have always wanted to read his work and i have high hopes i will LOVE at least one。 I thought the writing style was unique and superb。 In addition, I thought it spoke to some of the ways women are viewed in Japan。 I liked all of this。 However, the book seemed rather confusing in some areas。 while this added a sense of mystery and excitement to the story, this element was too strongly attached to the ending。 the end felt like i was watching a balloon float in the sky and then promptly disappear。 I kept thinking “okay, okay, this is the moment when things will finally come together。” But this never happened。 i do think there was some type of resolution in the ending, and i am impressed that the loose ends were never tied。 it just didn’t hit me with that ‘wow’ factor like i would want from this sort of ending。 it simply left me disappointed。 。。。more

I made the mistake of this not only being my first Murakami, but also realising after finishing that it is the last in a 4 book series。 I would urge others not to start with this one first。 Although I have relished his writing style and characters, I found the surrealist elements of the storyline harder to swallow for me, being a newbie to his works and not realising this was a continuation of a character and some settings from the previous book。 This will explain the sense of exclusion I felt w I made the mistake of this not only being my first Murakami, but also realising after finishing that it is the last in a 4 book series。 I would urge others not to start with this one first。 Although I have relished his writing style and characters, I found the surrealist elements of the storyline harder to swallow for me, being a newbie to his works and not realising this was a continuation of a character and some settings from the previous book。 This will explain the sense of exclusion I felt whilst reading this book, as if I was simply not getting something。 However I am still compelled to read the others in this series which I would recommend doing to any new readers, and to try his other works also。 I leave this a 3 star review for now, because, much like an exclusive club I cannot get into to, I marvelled at what was going on inside, and longed to know more, but was ultimately left out in the cold。I look forward to revisiting once I have read the others in the series to see if my opinion changes。 。。。more

Felt slightly uncomfortable about how the narrator spoke about 13-year-old Yuki - I was constantly on edge that he was going to come onto her, especially when he was rubbing oil onto her back in Hawaii。 Still found this very readable, but wasn't piqued by the prose as I have been by the other Murakami novels I've read。 Felt slightly uncomfortable about how the narrator spoke about 13-year-old Yuki - I was constantly on edge that he was going to come onto her, especially when he was rubbing oil onto her back in Hawaii。 Still found this very readable, but wasn't piqued by the prose as I have been by the other Murakami novels I've read。 。。。more

MA DANZARE OVVIAMENTE 🕺🕺🕺 。。。more

Yumiyoshi (main hero’s love interest) might be a dullest character in a whole Murakami’s universe so far, even Jay Rubin called her “one of Murakami’s least realized characters”。 When our narrator is around her he too magically turns into airhead weirdo himself, here just listen to their lovely chat:[Hero] I've always known that we would sleep together。 It's decided, it's fact。 And we shouldn't go fiddling around with that。 That might ruin everything。 Honest!» [Yumiyoshi] Yumiyoshi eyed her watc Yumiyoshi (main hero’s love interest) might be a dullest character in a whole Murakami’s universe so far, even Jay Rubin called her “one of Murakami’s least realized characters”。 When our narrator is around her he too magically turns into airhead weirdo himself, here just listen to their lovely chat:[Hero] I've always known that we would sleep together。 It's decided, it's fact。 And we shouldn't go fiddling around with that。 That might ruin everything。 Honest!» [Yumiyoshi] Yumiyoshi eyed her watch。 «You do realize you're not making much sense, don't you?» she said。 Then she sighed and began to unbutton her blouse。[All of us] :/I think the most interesting thing about her is the origin of her unlikely name。 In “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Truman Capote gave the “utterly impossible Japanese” name Yunioshi to the contentious Japanese cameraman who lives on the top floor of Holly Golightly’s building, later a party pooper who calls cops to bust Holly’s soirée。 Murakami decided to use his name and take it two steps closer to authentically Japanese Yumiyoshi, an actual Okinawan name。Damit, such somersaults never cease to amaze me! ;D 。。。more

This is the book I started getting tired (for now) of Murakami writing style and common themes。 A big strike against this book is how close it got to having the main character (M35) sleep with a 13 year old girl。 Otherwise, the idea of following your own dance steps takes a really cliché message and tells it in a non-patronizing way。 The characters are all pretty great which was certainly helped by the narrator bringing life to them, though it did take a while for me to warm up to him。

Personally, I would have never picked up this book。 I got it from a friend and at first I wasn’t thrilled。 But something about it kept me from putting it on the shelf。 The book feels very surreal and almost like a dream。 However, the ending just isn’t it for me。

No story about a non-person。Emptiness interrupted by some memories from swimming club in ancient Egypt and blind wandering in darkness。, maybe something more, but it is really irrelevant。I had a break after some 20 pages, when I realized that a main character is a non-person。Due to lockdown I could not return book to the library nor borrow another one, so I gave it another chance, but it was too hard。Looking at gray skies is more exciting。After all this effort, one question still remains - what No story about a non-person。Emptiness interrupted by some memories from swimming club in ancient Egypt and blind wandering in darkness。, maybe something more, but it is really irrelevant。I had a break after some 20 pages, when I realized that a main character is a non-person。Due to lockdown I could not return book to the library nor borrow another one, so I gave it another chance, but it was too hard。Looking at gray skies is more exciting。After all this effort, one question still remains - what Jack's London book was the main character reading? 。。。more
