This book got me into philosophy, which makes me forever grateful of its influence。 However, after revisiting it and analyzing its strategy at teaching philosophy, I find it lacking in many regards。 Firstly, it attempts to explain some hard topics in philosophy with a very brief simplistic explanation, that leaves the audience confused if not already familiar with the topic。 This is probably because the book was aiming to be short and to the point, something that it delivered a bit too much in m This book got me into philosophy, which makes me forever grateful of its influence。 However, after revisiting it and analyzing its strategy at teaching philosophy, I find it lacking in many regards。 Firstly, it attempts to explain some hard topics in philosophy with a very brief simplistic explanation, that leaves the audience confused if not already familiar with the topic。 This is probably because the book was aiming to be short and to the point, something that it delivered a bit too much in my opinion。 Secondly, the order of the topics and philosophers discussed in the book is kind of annoying。 Why does the book suddenly switch from philosopher to philosophy topics, meanwhile abandoning chronology for relevance and then switching again? This leaves the audience again confused by the context where all this philosophy is occurring (also because there is almost no explanation of the relevant history and societal aspects that shaped some of the more important philosophical movements)。 。。。more

A generally good overview of the many different aspects of philosophical thought and its important influencers。 I felt that much of the material focused on was quite basic and limited in scope。 Also, some explanations given were overly dense at times。 Kleinman shows his bias from time to time, he does not appear to be a fan of God or the notion of free will。

It was a good primer but near the end started condensing and skipping stuff in relationship to some major philosophers。 It seemed focused on the western canon of philosophy? Its simply a well done primer to philosophy throughout WESTERN history but could be better, good for what is 365 pages though。 no mentions of african philosophy, and the eastern philosophy section was slim。

This book serves as a decent introduction to philosophy。 I think it could've been better with some structure, either chronologically or thematically。 It started out with what seemed to be a chronological order but then it went all over the place mentioning people and ideas from different eras。 Also, some philosophers are glossed over in a page or two while others and their ideas get more attention in the book。Either way, I'd say the book is good if you're looking for an introduction or a refresh This book serves as a decent introduction to philosophy。 I think it could've been better with some structure, either chronologically or thematically。 It started out with what seemed to be a chronological order but then it went all over the place mentioning people and ideas from different eras。 Also, some philosophers are glossed over in a page or two while others and their ideas get more attention in the book。Either way, I'd say the book is good if you're looking for an introduction or a refresher of that Philosophy 101 course you took in college (ok, so maybe that's just me 😛)。 It is a good starting point to reading about other philosophers。 。。。more

This is a crash course on philosophers & philosophy。 Written in an easily to digest manner, it gives short biographies on the philosophers & breaks down the various philosophies into manageable pieces making them easy to understand。 Best introductory book I've read to philosophy so far。 It's a keeper。 This is a crash course on philosophers & philosophy。 Written in an easily to digest manner, it gives short biographies on the philosophers & breaks down the various philosophies into manageable pieces making them easy to understand。 Best introductory book I've read to philosophy so far。 It's a keeper。 。。。more

This really was a very good book and I will look into purchasing it in the future。 Even though advanced philosophy classes were part of my University experience - I enjoyed this book more than I did the introductory courses as I was working upwards to the advanced。

"Philosophy 101。。。" is an informative book that outlines the various philosophical views throughout history and the major thinkers of our times。 Although the book bounces between the various philosophers and philosophies and does not link these philosophies in a coherent and logical manner, it is a good starting point for further study。 "Philosophy 101。。。" is an informative book that outlines the various philosophical views throughout history and the major thinkers of our times。 Although the book bounces between the various philosophers and philosophies and does not link these philosophies in a coherent and logical manner, it is a good starting point for further study。 。。。more

Introduction It’s a great book to learn a bit of history on Philosophers and their philosophical ideas。 It doesn’t give a in depth details but it will give the slight foundation。

As a primer in philosophy this book failed because 1。 it is disorganized 2。 it doesn't recommend books or editions that will benefit philosophy beginners 3。 it doesn't give tips on how to approach any of the topics mentioned with a beginner's point of view in mind As a primer in philosophy this book failed because 1。 it is disorganized 2。 it doesn't recommend books or editions that will benefit philosophy beginners 3。 it doesn't give tips on how to approach any of the topics mentioned with a beginner's point of view in mind 。。。more

Great introduction to philosophy。 I'd recommend this book to the beginners。 The concepts are understandable although there are other important philosophies that are not mentioned here it gives a good introduction to the world of philosophy。 He mainly focused on Western philosophy and there is too little about eastern philosophy。 Great introduction to philosophy。 I'd recommend this book to the beginners。 The concepts are understandable although there are other important philosophies that are not mentioned here it gives a good introduction to the world of philosophy。 He mainly focused on Western philosophy and there is too little about eastern philosophy。 。。。more

I wanted to read this book to refresh myself about philosophy in general but it worked only partially, topics are extremely concise and thrown in a haphazard manner, not even in chronological order。 I refreshed partially on what I already knew, but there was no use for entertaining new ideas。

It is a small book and trying to mention or explain the main streams about philosophy。 It is also short in depth because of limitations on size。 This book is a good short summary but not persistent。 Because it does not contain discussions and thinking over ideas。 For starting it is not bad but I prefer Jostein Gaarder's book for this purpose。 It is a small book and trying to mention or explain the main streams about philosophy。 It is also short in depth because of limitations on size。 This book is a good short summary but not persistent。 Because it does not contain discussions and thinking over ideas。 For starting it is not bad but I prefer Jostein Gaarder's book for this purpose。 。。。more

Reading philosophy is a good way to train critical thinking。 This book is a good summary of philosophy, it opened my eyes to see things more rational。 I could understand it easily and i discover lot of things through the introduction of philosophy that this book presents。
