Summary

Forecast geopolitics and markets with this clear and insightful resource

Geopolitical Alpha - An Investment Framework for Predicting the Future provides readers with an original and compelling approach to forecasting the future and beating the markets while doing so。 Persuasively written by author, investment strategist, and geopolitical analyst Marko Papic, the book applies a novel framework for making sense of the cacophony of geopolitical risks with the eye towards generating investment-relevant insights。

Geopolitical Alpha posits that investors should ignore the media-hyped narratives, insights from smoke-filled rooms, and most of their political consultants and, instead, focus exclusively on the measurable, material constraints facing policymakers。 In the tug-of-war between policymaker preferences and their constraints, the latter always win out in the end。 Papic uses a wealth of examples from the past decade to illustrate how one can use his constraint-framework to generate Geopolitical Alpha。 In the process, the book discusses:

What paradigm shifts will drive investment returns over the next decade Why investment and corporate professionals can no longer treat geopolitics as an exogenous risk How to ignore the media and focus on what drives market narratives that generate returns Perfect for investors, C-suite executives, and investment professionals, Geopolitical Alpha belongs on the shelf of anyone interested in the intersection of geopolitics, economics, and finance。

Pragmatic and refreshing Objectivity is hard to do when confronting opposing ideologies and backwards ways of thinking, but that is exactly what we need to do to succeed

Interesting and unique perspective on marketsI really like his perspective - a constraints based approach to making investment decisions。 He’s wrong about climate change (had to ding a star) but the ‘beauty’ of his framework is i can substitute in my own priors about that particular topic and the rest of his approach still stands on its own。

The constraint framework is a fantastic tool for analyzing decision making on almost all levels。 This framework provides answers to puzzling actions and can help generate alpha by betting outside of the norm (Part 3) All of the information is current, informative, and best of all entertaining。 Great use of graphics to demonstrate key points。 Some great analysis on Covid-19 and other geopolitical events (I wish I read this as soon as it came out)。The book is divided into three parts1。 The framewo The constraint framework is a fantastic tool for analyzing decision making on almost all levels。 This framework provides answers to puzzling actions and can help generate alpha by betting outside of the norm (Part 3) All of the information is current, informative, and best of all entertaining。 Great use of graphics to demonstrate key points。 Some great analysis on Covid-19 and other geopolitical events (I wish I read this as soon as it came out)。The book is divided into three parts1。 The framework2。 The different levels of constraints3。 How to generate alphaHighly recommended to those interested in geopolitics, finance, economics, and human behavior。 。。。more

Geopolitical AlphaAn exceptional and thought provoking take on geopolitics, with regard to investing。 So few take into account the constraints these world leaders have when trying to force their view in the world。 Papic does an excellent job explaining the shift to a Buenos Aires consensus away from the Washington consensus thinking。 An incredible, eye-opening book。

A little bit boring at the start, but it liked it overall as a good introduction to geopolitical analysis, and applying it to a financial market view。 As intro, it remains very high level on the subjects, but the point of the book is to explain the framework。 The title should be a framework for geopolitical analysis based on constraints I bought both paper but later bought also the kindle version because text was too small in paper version

Good framework at the intersection of economics and politics that helps think through the macro world

How should you think about assessing geopolitical situations with an eye for informing macro bets? Marko has an approach that appears to have worked quite well over the last decade。 In a nutshell, he advises you to focus on constraints, NOT preferences, of leaders to determine ultimate outcomes。 One such constraint is the median voter preference (Greek voters didn't want to leave Eurozone in '15)。 Since it's hot off the press, he also writes about Covid, and accurately forecasts how the economic How should you think about assessing geopolitical situations with an eye for informing macro bets? One of of the best finance books of the last 50 years。 In the current multipolar world, geopolitics analysis is as important as ever。 Good examples, easy to read。 Above all else, Papic is an astute strategist。

Enjoyed the book。 I didn’t necessarily agree with how the framework was applied to each case study, but liked the approach of looking beyond the preferences of policymakers and focusing on constraints。
