Great way to practice reading in Italian and introduces you to new vocab。 Each chapter is followed by a summary and questions to ensure you've understood and a list of key vocab。My only criticism is that the stories are a bit of a mixed bag。 None of these stories are ever going to win a literary award and nor would I expect that, the main aim of the book is to learn。 But whilst some are entertaining, a few were a bit ridiculous and didn't hold my interest。 But overall the stories are fairly ente Great way to practice reading in Italian and introduces you to new vocab。 Each chapter is followed by a summary and questions to ensure you've understood and a list of key vocab。My only criticism is that the stories are a bit of a mixed bag。 None of these stories are ever going to win a literary award and nor would I expect that, the main aim of the book is to learn。 But whilst some are entertaining, a few were a bit ridiculous and didn't hold my interest。 But overall the stories are fairly entertaining。Definitely worth buying for anyone looking to improve their Italian reading skills。 。。。more

Non male! Almeno le storie non sono scritte per i bambini。 È buono per imparare a leggere in italiano e per il vocabolario。

It's not exactly great literature, and it's not meant to be。 But it IS a wonderful tool for practicing reading in (basic) Italian。 It's not exactly great literature, and it's not meant to be。 But it IS a wonderful tool for practicing reading in (basic) Italian。 。。。more

The stories were genuinely interesting and it was amazing to me to be able to actually understand them and be able to read them, I would love to come back and see how much smoother I can read them each time as I improve in Italian but I would definitely look at his other work for more practice。

Jad

Very well written, engaging and perfect for advanced beginners level Italian。 Would have been helpful to add some grammar explanations to the stories to assist readers in their learning journey。

This book helped a lot with my Italian。 Short stories are great for learning another language because they put the words into an meaningful context rather than having them in an isolated fashion。

Brian Kell

Great book if you want to begin to read in Italian。

Great bookGreat book but I would suggest that you provide the new words for the chapter first。 The words can be learned and understood and in that way you can apply the new words to the chapter。

Utile e piacevole! Il mio italiano è ancora molto cattivo ma questo libro mi ha aiutato a migliorare。

no rating but great if you want to learn a language

The stories were a bit odd but as a beginner, I was able to understand everything that was going on。 As long as you have a basic knowledge of the grammar and a good handful of vocabulary this shouldn't be too challenging。 The stories were a bit odd but as a beginner, I was able to understand everything that was going on。 As long as you have a basic knowledge of the grammar and a good handful of vocabulary this shouldn't be too challenging。 。。。more

Racconri brevi, facili e vari, alla fine c'erano domande a cui rispondere。 Più per l'italiano di livello B2。4 stelle perché fa il lavoro, niente di male da dire 🙈 Racconri brevi, facili e vari, alla fine c'erano domande a cui rispondere。 Più per l'italiano di livello B2。4 stelle perché fa il lavoro, niente di male da dire 🙈 。。。more

Some of the stories were weird/boring, but I read it mainly to improve my Italian - in this sense it did serve its purpose。

Useful for my Italian language study。

A good book with some very bizarre stories however they were enjoyable and definitely challenged me。

I studied Italian at night school for about 3 terms before they shut the school so I was a bit apprehsive about this as I thought that I wouldn't be up to this。 However the premise of the book is not to translate the stories, but to read them without looking up words and get the general idea of the story。 Each of the 8 stories is split into 3 parts and at the end of each part there is a brief summary, some vocabulary and a quick multiple choice quiz to check that your understanding。I surpised my I studied Italian at night school for about 3 terms before they shut the school so I was a bit apprehsive about this as I thought that I wouldn't be up to this。 However the premise of the book is not to translate the stories, but to read them without looking up words and get the general idea of the story。 Each of the 8 stories is split into 3 parts and at the end of each part there is a brief summary, some vocabulary and a quick multiple choice quiz to check that your understanding。I surpised myself by understanding a lot more that I thought I would and was pleasantly surprised。I feel a lot happier about my Italian now。 。。。more

This is a collection of short stories in Italian targeted at people beginning to learn the language。 Each story is broken into three parts followed by a summary and a set of questions。 The stories are nice little vignettes that portray some interesting situations, some more fanciful than the others。 I enjoyed them, although the language was still a little challenging for me。 I gave the book 4 stars。

It was perfect for what I wanted, some simple stories written in contemporary Italian。 Although the stories weren't really my taste, I was reading for the language learning, not the story value。 I'd probably get volume 2 if there were such a thing, who knows I might even get good enough to go up a level。 It was perfect for what I wanted, some simple stories written in contemporary Italian。 Although the stories weren't really my taste, I was reading for the language learning, not the story value。 I'd probably get volume 2 if there were such a thing, who knows I might even get good enough to go up a level。 。。。more

This was once again a series short good little stories each story being divided into four chapters。One negative about this book is that the little vocabulary section at the end could have been expanded more, but than to be fair its listed as a book for high beginners to low intermediates。I struggled with some of the grammar points, because this was listed as stories for beginners but on closer inspection it is listed as for high beginners。 So that could have been clearer。 I feel like those who r This was once again a series short good little stories each story being divided into four chapters。One negative about this book is that the little vocabulary section at the end could have been expanded more, but than to be fair its listed as a book for high beginners to low intermediates。I struggled with some of the grammar points, because this was listed as stories for beginners but on closer inspection it is listed as for high beginners。 So that could have been clearer。 I feel like those who reread this book many times will get most benefit from it (as i plan to do) even thought it was a hard read for me it was a million times more interesting than slogging through a grammar book。 Although the two (in my opinion) should be used in conjunction。 。。。more

Demanding enough to tax your abilities but not so difficult for beginners。 Stories are interesting and insightful。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。

Shacoria

Overall, this was a good book and I found it helpful, but some of the stories were not very good。 I found the first story to be interesting to read。 The second story was quite confusing and hard to get through。 Story 3 was fairly interesting, but the ending was a bit confusing。 The 5th short story in this book is downright bizarre。 The eighth story was just plain stupid to me。 Still, I look forward to reading the next book in this series。

Rick

The stories were weird but they were really good for learning to read in a new language。 It was an enjoyable way to learn to vocabulary and grammar within context。

Anna

Il primo libro che ho letto in italiano! È stato interessante, ma sono felice di leggere qualsiasi libro adesso :)

Hannah Baker

Enjoyed reading these stories in an effort to further my understanding of the Italian language。

Jim

Useful。 I wouldn’t recommend for true beginners, but rather someone that’s already taken a class and is trying to make better sense for how all of the vocabulary they’ve learned is actually used。

This is an excellent and entertaining way to learn Italian。 Richards' instructions to essentially 'just read it' the first time through without looking things up is brilliant。 At times that was quite difficult to do, but after several chapters it became easier and his rationale became clear。 He wants the reader to take in the language without having to dissect every word or grammar point (as one does with a primary language)。 I did that the first round through and found that I was surprised by h This is an excellent and entertaining way to learn Italian。 Richards' instructions to essentially 'just read it' the first time through without looking things up is brilliant。 At times that was quite difficult to do, but after several chapters it became easier and his rationale became clear。 He wants the reader to take in the language without having to dissect every word or grammar point (as one does with a primary language)。 I did that the first round through and found that I was surprised by how easy it was to follow the story even if I missed vocabulary here and there。 Then on the second round, I did look up words or highlighted areas that I could later review with my tutor。 I am moving on to his next in the series。 Well done! 。。。more
