Summary

Could Johan have a dual personality, like Jekyll and Hyde? Tenma calls on Dr。 Gillen, an authority on criminal psychology, to psychoanalyze Johan。 But Dr。 Gillen secretly concludes that it's not Johan but Tenma who has committed all the serial murders。 Dr。 Gillen then tries to lure Tenma into various traps, intending to use him in his own experiments。

Karl, a student at Munich University, visits a blind billionaire every week to read books to him as a way to pay for school。 One day he encounters another young man, named Johan, who had once done the same job for the billionaire。 From that point on, strange events continue to befall Karl。。。

Dr。 Tenma and Anna continue to hunt for Johan, finding help from old collogues and the former Detective Muller。 Meanwhile, Inspector Lunge and Eva hunt for Tenma。 There's character development all around, but in between it all, we keep getting glimpses of Johan and his second personality, the Monster。 He comes across as this charismatic Charles Manson like character who can convince people of almost anything and it's equal parts chilling and fascinating。 This omnibus contains volumes 5 and 6。Thi Dr。 Tenma and Anna continue to hunt for Johan, finding help from old collogues and the former Detective Muller。 Meanwhile, Inspector Lunge and Eva hunt for Tenma。 There's character development all around, but in between it all, we keep getting glimpses of Johan and his second personality, the Monster。 He comes across as this charismatic Charles Manson like character who can convince people of almost anything and it's equal parts chilling and fascinating。 This omnibus contains volumes 5 and 6。This series has 18 volumes。 。。。more

Still such a good series! I read this volume straight through in one sitting。 I love the interweaving of the ongoing story of Tenma with the individual stories that come up along the way。 This book includes the long-awaited confrontation between Tenma and Lunge—with completely surprising results。 The obvious Valjean/Javert dynamic with those two characters is excellent。 Everything in the story now seems to be moving ever closer to Johan。

One of the things that makes Monster so great is the side characters and in this volume, they get a lot of time to develop the plot around Temna。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Solo diré lo mucho que me da vergüenza ajena el inspector Lunge y Eva。 Son el colmo。¡Y al fin!

Having just read volume three, I would say that I loved this editions pace; it reads extremely quickly and each chapter is a real page-turner。 The artwork, as expected, was as beautiful as the first two I've read。 I'm looking forward to sharing Tenma's journey over time。 Having just read volume three, I would say that I loved this editions pace; it reads extremely quickly and each chapter is a real page-turner。 The artwork, as expected, was as beautiful as the first two I've read。 I'm looking forward to sharing Tenma's journey over time。 。。。more

I'm still wary as to why this book is in the top five for most readers but I'm surprisingly enjoying the ride。 The introduction of a plethora of characters, major and minor, still continues and I fear we will be introduced to a sizeable chunk of the Deutschland populace by the end of book 9。 And as far as story building goes its pretty deep with all the interconnected events and characters。And I love reading a good story。 It's too soon to make sense of anything, and I think Urusawa intends the s I'm still wary as to why this book is in the top five for most readers but I'm surprisingly enjoying the ride。 The introduction of a plethora of characters, major and minor, still continues and I fear we will be introduced to a sizeable chunk of the Deutschland populace by the end of book 9。 And as far as story building goes its pretty deep with all the interconnected events and characters。And I love reading a good story。 It's too soon to make sense of anything, and I think Urusawa intends the same。On to the next book, to try and make some sense of where this is going。 。。。more

SPOILERS AHEADI don't really know what to say about this volume。 we got a bit of tenma's past and got to meet a person he went to college with and it was interesting to see him find out about johan's existence。 near the end of when tenam's about to leave i wish we had got more of his friend as it was nice to finally see someone believe tenma about johan and all the murders that hes a suspect of。 The scenes that really had me intrigued and shocked where when inspector Torlunge went after tenma kn SPOILERS AHEADI don't really know what to say about this volume。 we got a bit of tenma's past and got to meet a person he went to college with and it was interesting to see him find out about johan's existence。 near the end of when tenam's about to leave i wish we had got more of his friend as it was nice to finally see someone believe tenma about johan and all the murders that hes a suspect of。 The scenes that really had me intrigued and shocked where when inspector Torlunge went after tenma knowing there was a copycat killer and said that tenma was the one with the other persona johan and how he doesn't really exist it was all in tenma's head。 this literally blew my mind because is the inspector wrong having the wrong conclusion to tenma or is this all of the outcome because of johan making everyone think that tenma has made up johan。 i don't really know what to think now because the plot twist with johan having split personality really shocked me and it could go to the direction of it all being in tenma's head which i wouldn't mind as shutter island is one of my fav movies but at the same time it would be a missed opportunity of us to see johans true potential and what hes willing to do。 Finally the ending with johan being at the university why is he there and why are we seeing the students what benefit does johan have from helping the boy??overall im hella confused but the good confused and cant wait to keep readingXD 。。。more

This series just gets better and better! I'm constantly on the edge of my seat。 I can't wait to get the next volume。 Naoki Urasawa builds suspense in such a masterful way that this entire series deserves a full 5 stars from me! Such a wonderfully crafted tale。

Urasawa certainly likes his stories to sprawl but it works here, thanks to his deft characterisation and empathy even for the lowest of his characters。

。。。more
