Summary

Dr。 Tenma has fallen into a trap set by Johan and is now wanted by the police as a serial killer。 While narrowly evading the police dragnet, Tenma pursues Johan in an attempt to prove his own innocence and prevent another murder, edging closer to the Monster by tracing his secret past。

As the only person who knows what Johan is, Tenma searches for Nina, who has been captured by neo-Nazis。 His investigation leads him to uncover a horrific fact—the ultra-rightists are conspiring to set Johan up as a second Adolf Hitler。

A burglar named Heckel breaks into the home of the late councilman, intending to loot it, when he runs into Tenma。 At the sound of sirens, however, they both make a hasty exit, Tenma following the burglar, to his dismay。 When he learns that Tenma is a doctor, Heckel has a brilliant idea of how they can make easy money。 Tenma isn’t interested until he finds out Heckel saw the councilman’s murderer, and makes him tell where he is。 It turns out that the guy isn’t Johan, but Johan has left a message A burglar named Heckel breaks into the home of the late councilman, intending to loot it, when he runs into Tenma。 At the sound of sirens, however, they both make a hasty exit, Tenma following the burglar, to his dismay。 When he learns that Tenma is a doctor, Heckel has a brilliant idea of how they can make easy money。 Tenma isn’t interested until he finds out Heckel saw the councilman’s murderer, and makes him tell where he is。 It turns out that the guy isn’t Johan, but Johan has left a message for Tenma。 How did he know Tenma would be there? With Heckel’s help, Tenma is kidnapped and led to a wounded man and ordered to help him。 But the conditions are so primitive, Tenma doesn’t believe he can do it safely。 Tenma has a decision to make。 Afterward, he goes to East Germany and visits the home of the late Lieberts in the company of a real estate agent as he attempts to glean information about the current owner。 The realtor has none to give but points him to a neighbor who does remember the Lieberts and the twins they adopted。 This was news to Tenma。 The orphanage was located at 511 Kinderheim, but it’s abandoned and very spooky now。 A nearby woman guides Tenma to a man who once worked in the welfare ministry, who is fostering a little boy。 Tenma bonds with the boy and promises to bring him a soccer ball。 Things get ugly fast and Tenma turns to the system for help。Tenma takes the child, Dieter, with him and gives him directions on how to find the good orphanage。 But Dieter refuses to go and insists on following Tenma, so he has little choice but to look after him。 He runs across a drunken man who has injured himself and takes him to the doctor’s house but the doctor is away so Tenma treats him himself and leaves。 When the doctor returns, he is furious and tracks Tenma down。 When the police arrive, he covers up for Tenma and tells the officer to have his mother come in soon, because she’s ill。 Concerned about her, he takes Tenma to the woman’s house and Tenma talks her into letting them in。 But she soon collapses and Tenma has no choice but to operate, or she’ll die。 Will her son, the policeman, see it that way, or will he just see a man who is wanted for murder?Detective Lunge is obsessed with finding a connection between a murdered prostitute and the late councilman。 He is so obsessed that he neglects his wife and daughter。 Tenma’s ex calls on him, demanding to know when he will arrest Tenma。 And when he informs her that it wasn’t Tenma, it was Johan, she tells Lunge that Johan is just one of Tenma’s personalities!Tenma runs into an ex-cop, one of the men who killed Herr Maurer and the journalist, who finally admits the truth about the murders, and about the Baby。 Apparently Nina Fortner/Anna Liebert has been looking for Johan, and the Baby intends to use her as bait, for his own reasons。 Meanwhile Heckel and Dieter uncover a plot that could potentially kill a lot of people。There is nothing boring about this volume of Monster。 Edge-of-your-seat action all the way through。 Nina wants to finish the job she started years ago, and Tenma wants to right the wrong he committed by saving the monster’s life as a child。 Maybe he sees Dieter as a form of redemption, which is why he can’t just leave him。 Also, I think he realizes that Dieter is wise beyond his years and has seen much that he should never have seen。This book has some memorable characters, a great plot, and the artwork is awesome! Some of the people remind me of those in Twentieth Century Boys, but is that surprising? Same artist。 I look forward to reading the next volume。 。。。more

This is the part of the story where the series becomes "The Adventures of Dr。 Tenma" as he travels around searching for his Monster, starting from the origins。 Along the way, he crosses paths with a burglar who tries to set him up as a black market surgeon; a young boy who's being abused in order to turn him into a super soldier; a country doctor with a difficult patient; a fanatical group of neo-nazis threatening to burn down a neighborhood of Turkish immigrants; and more。Meanwhile Anna is havi This is the part of the story where the series becomes "The Adventures of Dr。 Tenma" as he travels around searching for his Monster, starting from the origins。 Along the way, he crosses paths with a burglar who tries to set him up as a black market surgeon; a young boy who's being abused in order to turn him into a super soldier; a country doctor with a difficult patient; a fanatical group of neo-nazis threatening to burn down a neighborhood of Turkish immigrants; and more。Meanwhile Anna is having her own adventure while Eva is pressuring Inspector Lunge to crack down and finally capture Tenma。 It's really interesting because none of these stories seem to connect at first but eventually cross paths and mesh together only to diverge again。 If the whole series is going to be like this, I'm definitely down for it。This omnibus contains volumes 3 and 4。This series has 18 volumes。 。。。more

Isn't that obstruction of justice or something? Or maybe it has something to do with his rank as a soldier affording him some type of immunity I don't know about。 In any case, the last chapter did have a softer, more human tone but it was also my least favourite chapter in the volume。 All in all, a strong sequel that builds up anticipation for the next in the series! 。。。more

Decent volume。 It really felt like a side story instead of something further advancing the main plot, which I hate。 There are were too many contrivances in the back half。 I thought the first half was the better of the two。 Really, I think this volume was more cartoony than the last, which I did not like。 There was good stuff about this, and I definitely liked it more than I didn't, but overall, it was weaker than the first by far。 3。5/ 5 Decent volume。 It really felt like a side story instead of something further advancing the main plot, which I hate。 There are were too many contrivances in the back half。 I thought the first half was the better of the two。 Really, I think this volume was more cartoony than the last, which I did not like。 There was good stuff about this, and I definitely liked it more than I didn't, but overall, it was weaker than the first by far。 3。5/ 5 。。。more

The second volume continues to be as gripping and fascinating as the first。 I like the slow, serialized pacing of the story, with Tenma traveling from place to place, confronting complex situations, and sometimes reconnecting with people he's met before。 This story does a fantastic job of introducing a character who seems to be one sort of person, but then revealing the full story to show that he's actually quite different from those initial impressions。 Sometimes this means a character who seem The second volume continues to be as gripping and fascinating as the first。 I like the slow, serialized pacing of the story, with Tenma traveling from place to place, confronting complex situations, and sometimes reconnecting with people he's met before。 This story does a fantastic job of introducing a character who seems to be one sort of person, but then revealing the full story to show that he's actually quite different from those initial impressions。 Sometimes this means a character who seems terrible but becomes sympathetic, and other times it's the opposite。 Every encounter teaches Tenma something about himself and the world。 I find him to be an interesting protagonist, and the hints we're starting to get that maybe he is more connected to the twins than he realizes yet。。。very tantalizing。 。。。more

ONCE MORE !!!! the most enjoyable of reading experiences !!! initially thought it wasn’t quite as gripping as the first volume, but that thought quickly left my mind。 there’s something about these characters that feels just so personable - I already dread to think of when I finish reading the series, it’ll be like missing friends! psychological thriller that also makes me emotional, what more could one ask for !!

If I rate something four stars, it’s because something about the plot didn’t work out for me。 One star for the art, one star for the characterization, one star for how it all comes together, and one for my enjoyment of it all。 The final star is if it all makes sense and sadly, there were a few parts that didn’t work for me。 Overall, this is a solid second part to this story, and I’m glad I’m re-reading this。

Towards the end of book 1 I felt the plot was predictable。 Yes there would be some convoluted plot point eventually but how good can it get? Halfway through the second book and I'm thinking there are probably two maybe three ways this could climax and none of those ways justify how this story could go on for 7 more collected editions, it just didn't add up。 And I guess thats Urusawa for you。 There are a plethora or main and secondary characters coming in and out throughout this book。 Most chapte Towards the end of book 1 I felt the plot was predictable。 Yes there would be some convoluted plot point eventually but how good can it get? So much happened in these 2 volumes。 i finally managed to find the omnibus versions in my library and picked up vol 2 which was great。 It was interesting to find out more about Johan and Nina。 i find them both such interesting characters and cant wait to see how they develop throughout the story especially so far we have seen how Nina has changed since she has remembered her past and how shes able to carry a gun。 Its interesting to see the struggles Tenma goes through when trying to save people So much happened in these 2 volumes。 i finally managed to find the omnibus versions in my library and picked up vol 2 which was great。 It was interesting to find out more about Johan and Nina。 i find them both such interesting characters and cant wait to see how they develop throughout the story especially so far we have seen how Nina has changed since she has remembered her past and how shes able to carry a gun。 Its interesting to see the struggles Tenma goes through when trying to save people even criminals as hes on the path of trying to kill Johan but you can see him question if criminal/murders are worth saving。 Also love the intro to Dieter hes so cute i was worried i wouldn't like him as i'm not usually a fan of kids in books。 SPOILERomg the ending killed me。 I still cant believe the plot twist at the end with Johan having two personalities。 i never expected it in this series because i thought it would go the typical route of Johan (as hes been brought up in special circumstances which makes sense why hes a cold blooded killer) for him to grow up and just be this sociopath but its actually his other personality this whole time which is so interesting。 。。。more
