Summary

A journey through what makes human beings afraid, into a new relationship with our fears

In Fear: Understanding and Accepting the Insecurities of Life, Osho takes the reader step by step over the range of what makes human beings afraid—from the reflexive "fight or flight" response to physical danger to the rational and irrational fears of the mind and its psychology。 Only by bringing the light of understanding into fear's dark corners, he says, airing out closets and opening windows, and looking under the bed to see if a monster is really living there, can we begin to venture outside the boundaries of our comfort zone and learn to live with, and even enjoy, the fundamental insecurity of being alive。

Fear ends with a series of meditation experiments designed to help readers experience a new relationship with fear and to begin to see fears not as stumbling blocks, but as stepping stones to greater self-awareness and trust。

When reading it, I felt that I already knew everything but still felt renewed, like fresh energy pulsating throughout me。

Although the perspectives in the book are great and the manner they were presented was even better。 I found contradiction in his definition of fear and a lack of research in a couple of topics that he often repeated。 He claim to be absent of fear yet some of his sentences claim otherwise。 I would recommend this book for a fresh new prospective on fear, but would say keep an open mind and read more about the claims mentioned as not all are scientifically true。

I agree with the author that we fear for nonexistent thing。 I’m unsecured and I have fears; fears of being alone, living life, being loved and loving others。 Fears are not existed unless I keep thinking, worry about its arrival。 It will come when it comes。 The more I’m afraid of, the faster I am pulling it closer。 Life is revolved uncertainties。 Whoever I am with, whatever I have, I will have my only self and own my only self at the end of the day, and for the rest of my life。 While I’m afraid o I agree with the author that we fear for nonexistent thing。 I’m unsecured and I have fears; fears of being alone, living life, being loved and loving others。 Fears are not existed unless I keep thinking, worry about its arrival。 It will come when it comes。 The more I’m afraid of, the faster I am pulling it closer。 Life is revolved uncertainties。 Whoever I am with, whatever I have, I will have my only self and own my only self at the end of the day, and for the rest of my life。 While I’m afraid of my love one might or will leave me one day, I should enjoy his presence。 If I have enjoyed the moment enough, I have had him enough, I’ll be ready when he leaves。 Likewise, if I have enjoyed living my life, I’ll stop worrying about the death, the past, the future, I’ll have no fears when death comes。 I also like the very last chapter in the book when he mentioned the reason we cannot love ourselves is that we don’t accept ourselves。 We’re fighting to change, to pretend to be someone else or to become a standard of others’ expectations。 We cannot love others unless we love ourselves first。 I kept loving, giving the best and all of mine to everyone and the one I should have loved firstly, but I forgot was me, myself。 Since I didn’t love myself, I ran out of love to give others。 I must accept who I am, my weakness as well as my strength。 The part I didn’t agree was that the author explained we are fearful of living because we are afraid of death。 However, I’m the person who is waiting for death, but I’m terrified of life sometimes。 Maybe for this perspective of his point, it doesn’t fit for my case。 。。。more

This book opens up the panorama of what we are afraid of, why it arises and what can be done。This book what I leave for my whole life is that whoever fears death fears life since you are like ying and yang complement each other。In addition to the content, it has meditations to control fear。 For these moments of anguish due to the pandemic, it can help you calm down and understand that fear is part of life。

This was my first Osho book。 Initially I kept it up to learn about fear, but I learned much more。 Nietzsche used to have a motto on his wall: LIVE DANGEROUSLY。 When somebody asked him: "Why have you written this" he said, "Just to remind me, because my fear is tremendous"。 Everyone experiences fear in the face of the unknown。 Fear is such a powerful and destructive force as it doesn't let us grow。 It lets us shrink。 Osho argues that, once a person is teathered to the known he is dead (metaphoric This was my first Osho book。 Initially I kept it up to learn about fear, but I learned much more。 Nietzsche used to have a motto on his wall: LIVE DANGEROUSLY。 When somebody asked him: "Why have you written this" he said, "Just to remind me, because my fear is tremendous"。 Everyone experiences fear in the face of the unknown。 Fear is such a powerful and destructive force as it doesn't let us grow。 It lets us shrink。 Osho argues that, once a person is teathered to the known he is dead (metaphorically)。 I think that's very true。 Life therefore can only be lived dangerously, there is no other way。 If we want to live perfectly safe, than life is not possible。 Then we are already dead。 Insecurity is the very stuff that life is made of。 Everything can happen at any time。 We can't control it。 The people who think they are secure are simply fools。 Nobody can be secure while being alive。 Only until up the age of five humans truly learn。 We learn only through trial and error。 If we stop making errors we stop learning too。 Then we get programmed in certain ways and we get clever and efficient in those ways and at the same time we get more conservative, more orthodox, we seek security in what we already know。 People who stop learning get neurotic, neurosis is a kind of non-learning。 We only rely on what we already know。 Fear arises every time the unknown appears。 What I learned through thi book is, we basically have to be aware of our emotions as our driving forces, not only of fear but of all of them。 And then we have to understand and accept them as those emotions are part of life。 It doesn't help to fight emotions, to surpress them, because emotions constitue us。 We have to understand them。 In a sense reading Osho feels like deprogramming myself from all conditionings and ideologies I've accumulated over the years。 As Gabor Mate says: "Your thoughts shape the world but first the world shapes your thoughts"。 It's true, Osho keeps repeating himself over and over in different variations, but it didn't get boring, it rather helped me to reflect and integrate the key insights into my daily life。 Reading Osho gives me more self-awareness, helps me to be more courageous, more kind, less judgemental, more living in the moment and enjoy the little things, more accepting, less angry, more loving, less ego。 He fundamentally teaches me to be myself and live life fully。 。。。more

If it is like that, it will be a real fortune to sail into the ocean of this great man。 。。。more

This book considered little things about life, how fear controls our life and what we can do against it。 And these all things are written in a very simple way so everyone can understand, everyone can change the way of living their life。 In short, this is beautiful, it can open a different dimension of life, a life of no fear, a life of accepting things, a life of freedom。

Not the greatest book but it still has some good parts : -you can run from a rope thinking that it is a snake if you come back and look closely and observe you will laugh at the whole stupidity。 this rope situation, might be similar to your fears too。-what is fear made of ? fear is made of ignorence of one's own self 。-in the book it talks about meditation as it says : meditation is when you are not doing anything at all when the mind is not functioning at all the non functioning of the mind is Not the greatest book but it still has some good parts : -you can run from a rope thinking that it is a snake if you come back and look closely and observe you will laugh at the whole stupidity。 this rope situation, might be similar to your fears too。-what is fear made of ? fear is made of ignorence of one's own self 。-in the book it talks about meditation as it says : meditation is when you are not doing anything at all when the mind is not functioning at all the non functioning of the mind is the meditation no chanting , no mantra ,no image, no concentration。 one just simply is in that iness the ego disappears, and with the ego the shadow of the ego disappears。-this is a simple logic , a simple arthimatic , before searching anywhere else please search within yourself the world is vast, you will be lost in the search so first look within yourself。 maybe what you are looking for is already there。-live dangerously! it is your life , don't sacrifice it for any sort of foolishness that has been taugh to you。- each moment whatsover you are doing you are doing do it tottaly 。 simple things - taking a bath ; take it totally forget the whole world ; sitting sit, walking , walk。wobble:sit under the shower and let the whole exsistance fall on you 。 be merged with those beautiful drops of water falling o you 。 small things : cleaning the house , preparing food ,washing clothes ,going for a morining walk - do them totally then there is no need for any meditation。 - meditatation is nothing but a way to learn how to do a thing totally once you have learned make your whole life a meditation , forget all about meditation ,and then time dissapears ,and rememeber when time dissapears ,death dissapears ,then you are not afraid of death ,in fact you wait 。 -if you start living in the moment fear dissapears , fera comes through desires ,so basically desire creats fear。 look into it whenever there is fear see where it is comming from ,what desire is creating it and then see the futility of it。-if you meditate deeply and reach to your inermost center you will suddenly find an internal life current。- the inner quality of your being defines your ultimate reality。- you are already what you want to be, just a small thing is missing very small。 wake up! in your walking you are a buddah。-the authors suggestion : when there is pain go deeply into it, don't avoid it, let it be so, be open to it become as sensitive as possible。 let the pain and it's arrow penetrate you to your very core 。suffer it。 and when the pleasure comes , let that too move you to your innermost core 。 dance it。when there is pain be with pain , and when there is pleasure be with pleasure become so tottaly sensitive that each moment of pain and pleasure is a great adventure 。 if you can do this, you will undrestand that pain too is beautiful, it is as beautiful as pleasure。- whatsoever exsistance gives you try to find a way to use it in such a way that it becomes a creative growth situation for you。- why would people watch television all day ? one has to look into the psychology these people simply don't want to know anything about themselves, these people are trying to avoid themselves by watching television。 television is a substitude, otherwise having so much time you will have to look inward and that is a fear。-this is the inner alchemy : a problem disappears if you accept it and a problem grows more and more complex if you creat any conflict with it。 。。。more
