Excellent series， but several translation errorsThe story， just like the anime， is amazing and gives you alot of insight into characters thoughts。 That said， Yen Press did a poor job as per normal with their translation。 Several easy to spot errors are present。

3。5/5 Overlord Volume 1 was a fun Isekai light novel and probably one of the most popular series along with Sword Art Online and Re:Zero。Momonga is the guild leader for one of the strongest guilds in Yggdrasil Online， Ainz Ooal Gown。 However as the game comes to an end he is the only member left。 Momonga decides to stay on until the server shuts down on Yggdrasil。 However after the servers shut down Momonga isn't logged out instead his guild castle is transported to another world and all of his 3。5/5 Overlord Volume 1 was a fun Isekai light novel and probably one of the most popular series along with Sword Art Online and Re:Zero。Momonga is the guild leader for one of the strongest guilds in Yggdrasil Online， Ainz Ooal Gown。 However as the game comes to an end he is the only member left。 Momonga decides to stay on until the server shuts down on Yggdrasil。 However after the servers shut down Momonga isn't logged out instead his guild castle is transported to another world and all of his guild's NPCs （non player characters） are now sentient。The first half of the light novel is pretty dull unfortunately but it serves it purpose of introducing our characters and the setting。 Once you get past that point it start's picking up and becoming a lot more interesting。 During the second half Momonga and the waifu demon Albedo save a town that's under attack by knights。 In typical Isekai fashioin Momonga and his minions are all super overpowered and lay waste to everything。 For those who have watched any of the anime this first novel covers just about the first 4 episodes。You are offered a lot more insight into the characters thoughts and motivations in the light novel than in the anime。 This makes it easier to follow and certain aspects of the plot are a lot clearer。 Momongo's diminishing humanity is a lot more apparent as are his choices and decisions by contrast。While I did enjoy Overlord I don't think I'm going to continue。 Not at this time anyway。 Other series just hold more interest to me。 I'm still glad I gave it a shot though。Read as a Buddy Read with Jenny @TheMangaSquad。 。。。more

I quite enjoyed this！ I started with the anime and really liked it， though at times I found it hard to follow。 This was easier to follow， and also we get to see more into Ainz's thoughts。 I find the whole psychological aspect of his being undead but trying to retain humanity， as well as the thin line he feels he is walking to keep the respect of his subordinates， quite interesting。 Also， Shaltear makes more sense now！ I quite enjoyed this！ I started with the anime and really liked it， though at times I found it hard to follow。 This was easier to follow， and also we get to see more into Ainz's thoughts。 I find the whole psychological aspect of his being undead but trying to retain humanity， as well as the thin line he feels he is walking to keep the respect of his subordinates， quite interesting。 Also， Shaltear makes more sense now！ 。。。more

what started as a very intriguing plot became somewhat boring & repetitive the farther it went on。 I’m surely going to continue the series， but this first installment felt overworked， like the author was trying to reach a word count。

Great read！I chose to read the light novel because I enjoyed the anime so much。 I was not disappointed with that decision。 As usual， the book gives a more interesting look at the thoughts of some of the characters。 I cannot wait to read more。

While it isn't perfect by any means I do feel as though Overlord is one of the better developed Isekai currently available。 This first volume really hits the ground running at times， and at other times feels a bit slow。 Nevertheless， the setup that is taking place in this first volume is important for establishing the large cast of characters as well as slowly introducing the world to the readers。 If you're a fan of video games， give it a read。 The biggest complaint that I've often seen about Ov While it isn't perfect by any means I do feel as though Overlord is one of the better developed Isekai currently available。 This first volume really hits the ground running at times， and at other times feels a bit slow。 Nevertheless， the setup that is taking place in this first volume is important for establishing the large cast of characters as well as slowly introducing the world to the readers。 If you're a fan of video games， give it a read。 The biggest complaint that I've often seen about Overlord is that it plays too heavily into the male power fantasy。 While I will admit that's true， it seems to be a common trope present in all Isekai that I've seen or read。 Regardless， I feel as though Momonga （Ainz） is a good character， and rarely comes off quite as annoying as many other MCs in this genre。 / Should I read Overlord if I've already watched the anime？ /I'm a fan of Overlord， and I've seen the three seasons of the anime that have been released thus far at the time of writing。 I started there before reading any of the LN。 I think the issue that has clouded my judgment the most about this particular LN is the fact that I've already seen the anime， so I know how the story is going to progress。 It made going through this first volume a little sluggish。 If you're on the fence about whether or not to jump into the LN， take that into consideration。 Avid readers should have no issue going through it。 However， if you're not a big reader and just an Overlord fan it might be worth jumping ahead to the volumes that have yet to be adapted in the anime or skipping the read altogether。 Personally， I'm still on the fence about reading the entire series as it is a really big commitment。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 I think this has the potential to become a really great series base on this first volume。 I can’t wait to read more of these characters。 I docked half a star cuz the writing is very very wordy at time。 Like do I really need to know the exact dimensions of the room the main character walked into？ I don’t think so。 But this is a very minor issue because it doesn’t happen very often and when it does I can just skip over the paragraph or two of it。
