I found the storyline so compelling and the world built around it really drew me in, but the amount of times Dany was raped or sexualized really disgusted me。 I believe she was 12 or 13 in the start of the books and Martin wrote about her as if she was no more that a tool to fantasize about, which really sucked because her storyline interested me most of all。I don’t care if it was a “product of its time” or “just how the author likes to write。” It is repulsive how obvious Martin makes it that he I found the storyline so compelling and the world built around it really drew me in, but the amount of times Dany was raped or sexualized really disgusted me。 I believe she was 12 or 13 in the start of the books and Martin wrote about her as if she was no more that a tool to fantasize about, which really sucked because her storyline interested me most of all。I don’t care if it was a “product of its time” or “just how the author likes to write。” It is repulsive how obvious Martin makes it that he hates women。 。。。more

Better than the show in every way。 Of course, the book is now enhanced with me being able to visualize characters and settings easily :)I was, however, surprised how much I kept wanting to come back to the book。 It just kept drawing me back into the world of GoT。 The chapter divides into every character's perspective the story is told from just makes this such an easy and fun read。 If you liked the show, read the books。 And hopefully, by the time we're done with the books we have, the next one c Better than the show in every way。 Of course, the book is now enhanced with me being able to visualize characters and settings easily :)I was, however, surprised how much I kept wanting to come back to the book。 It just kept drawing me back into the world of GoT。 The chapter divides into every character's perspective the story is told from just makes this such an easy and fun read。 If you liked the show, read the books。 And hopefully, by the time we're done with the books we have, the next one comes out。 。。。more

I didn’t “get” this on the first read。 It was only when the TV series came out that I went back to it and enjoyed it properly。It’s an amazing story about a man who starts off an amazing series of books, but gets distracted by other offers and never gets around to finishing them off。

George R。R。 Martin's masterpiece of a series starts with this incredible book。 Martin draws a beautiful painting, filled with likeable characters, humorous writing and complex storylines。 The modern-day Tolkien。 George R。R。 Martin's masterpiece of a series starts with this incredible book。 Martin draws a beautiful painting, filled with likeable characters, humorous writing and complex storylines。 The modern-day Tolkien。 。。。more

i liked it。 And to my surprise it is really similar to the series。 Some dialoges in the film were identicall to the book。 The book is good, but also a bit brutal。 I wouldnt recommend it for underaged persons。 And thats only the first book。 I think it gets more brutal from book to book。 But I really liked it and also bought the second book immediatly。

Best series I've ever read。 Far better than J R R Tolkien, Mercedes Lackey, C S Lewis, and all the other sci-fi and fantasy authors and books I've ever read。 The multiple povs (point of view characters) are amazing。 How can such a big burly man speak in such a way from Sansa Stark? Every character has their own type of colloquialisms and own way of thinking。 George is like an amazing actor who has put himself into the minds of all these different people and done a wonderful job of it。I was havin Best series I've ever read。 Far better than J R R Tolkien, Mercedes Lackey, C S Lewis, and all the other sci-fi and fantasy authors and books I've ever read。 The multiple povs (point of view characters) are amazing。 How can such a big burly man speak in such a way from Sansa Stark? I can only dream to write like him, though。 。。。more

I am beyond annoyed at myself for not reading this before watching the series。 That was a good read, my first time reading that kind of detailed book and it was glorious。

The fact that this book kept me engaged for all 850 pages is a testament to how good Game of Thrones is。 At no point in this book did I feel the story lag。 Martin's world building was richly complex and the characters were all individually compelling。 I think the multiple pov structure of this book really made this story work。 It matched Lord of the Rings on grandeur and scale, but was all around more interesting to read for me because of the more down to earth narrative style that came with fol The fact that this book kept me engaged for all 850 pages is a testament to how good Game of Thrones is。 At no point in this book did I feel the story lag。 Martin's world building was richly complex and the characters were all individually compelling。 I think the multiple pov structure of this book really made this story work。 It matched Lord of the Rings on grandeur and scale, but was all around more interesting to read for me because of the more down to earth narrative style that came with following multiple povs。 Arya, Jon, and Tyrion were some of my favorite characters and I can't wait to see the world, plot, and characters expand in future books。 'Small wonder' I really have nothing negative to say about this book。 5/5 stars! 。。。more

It’s just so epic and ambitious I almost didn’t know how to not give it five stars。 In the end I knocked a star off because some of the women in it were so young when they start getting pregnant and stuff that it made me uncomfortable。 I’m also not sure if I got a true feel of the book as I’ve already watched the first few series of the TV series and because I listened as an audio book which I prefer when books are looooong。

WOW。 OK。 So this book is 800 pages, and the Song of Ice and Fire series has over 2000 named characters throughout。 So this book can be pretty tough to follow at times。 The first 300ish pages are really introductory stuff so it’s pretty slow。 But my goodness, it picks up。 I think this book gets a bad rep because of the show but it’s honestly not that bad。 What Martin accomplishes is incredible and there are content warnings for sure but it’s still an epic read。 There are so many perspectives and WOW。 OK。 So this book is 800 pages, and the Song of Ice and Fire series has over 2000 named characters throughout。 So this book can be pretty tough to follow at times。 The first 300ish pages are really introductory stuff so it’s pretty slow。 But my goodness, it picks up。 I think this book gets a bad rep because of the show but it’s honestly not that bad。 What Martin accomplishes is incredible and there are content warnings for sure but it’s still an epic read。 There are so many perspectives and characters and motives and…so much stuff。 Wow it’s great。 I’m already about 150 pages through the second one as I’m writing this so I’m going to go finish that now。 :) 。。。more

DNF。 I tried to finish this book several times。 Even got about 60% done with it。 It was so painfully boring that I could not continue to waste my time trying to finish it。 I’m still a Fantasy newbie。 I’ve only read about 80-90 fantasy books。 There have been a few that I didn’t enjoy, but I was still able to finish the book。 This is not one of them。 That doesn’t mean you won’t like it。 I also didn’t make it past the first season of the show bc it wasn’t for me。 I may try sometime in the future to DNF。 I tried to finish this book several times。 Even got about 60% done with it。 It was so painfully boring that I could not continue to waste my time trying to finish it。 I’m still a Fantasy newbie。 I’ve only read about 80-90 fantasy books。 There have been a few that I didn’t enjoy, but I was still able to finish the book。 This is not one of them。 That doesn’t mean you won’t like it。 I also didn’t make it past the first season of the show bc it wasn’t for me。 I may try sometime in the future to finish this。 I hate not finishing a book。 But if I have to keep stopping and going back bc it doesn’t hold my interest, then it’s not worth finishing anyway。 My main problem is the length of this book。 If the author had taken out everything that was unimportant to the story, this book would’ve been maybe a couple hundred pages。 Instead, there were so many time wasting pages that I just didn’t care。 Because it’s so wordy, it’s over 800 pages。 I know I’m in the minority when it comes to this book。 It’s beloved by so many people。 I’m just not one of them。 。。。more

As I anticipated this was an excellent read。 I very much enjoyed the complexity in this novel。 I love the word this book takes place in。 The characters are well developed and fleshed out。 I won't re-hash the plot of this book。 It is written in the synopsis and everyone has heard of this book。 If you haven't I think it would be fair to say it just isn't your cup of tea。 I saw the show first and wanted to read this book because I don't want to be left out on what was missing from the show。 This fi As I anticipated this was an excellent read。 I very much enjoyed the complexity in this novel。 I love the word this book takes place in。 The characters are well developed and fleshed out。 I won't re-hash the plot of this book。 It is written in the synopsis and everyone has heard of this book。 If you haven't I think it would be fair to say it just isn't your cup of tea。 I saw the show first and wanted to read this book because I don't want to be left out on what was missing from the show。 This first book doesn't differ too much from the first season。 It does provide some background details that I was happy to learn about that provides more character development。 I do enjoy the way it was written, I did not get bored at any point reading the book。 I very much look forward to reading the rest of the series。 。。。more

Agora eu entendo o porquê de muitas pessoas amarem Game of Thrones!

I fell in love with the GoT TV shows years ago。 After how the show ended, I felt disappointed and my love for the show dwindled。 This book has rekindled my love for the GoT world。 This was a truly phenomenal book! 100% better than the show!

Gripping, exciting, gory: there was a lot of promise, and Martin delivered。 It was fun and dark and I really liked it。
