Summary

Alternate cover edition of ISBN 9781501171345

We all have stories we never tell。
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he manages to smuggle a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her。

Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers: Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey。 Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child。 Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother。

As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered; as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss; as a US Marshal and FBI agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was。 And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared。

Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth, together。 But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they are also building a new future。 One neither Hannah nor Bailey could have anticipated。

Weak ending?Feels a little anticlimactic, but was a good read。 Would try this author again just to see if she does the slide better。

Carlin

An interesting ending but overall I was disappointed。

I thought this was a really compulsive and fun read。 I devoured this in one day, and while it wasn't the best thing I've ever read, I couldn't put it down。 Is it implausible? Yeah, mostly。 But who cares? Hmmm closer to 3。5, but I liked the fast-paced nature of this book。 I feel like it could’ve been 40+ pages shorter, but the ending was sort of sweet。 Also loved that it was set in Sausalito! Takes me back to my honeymoon💕

OkayThis was an easy to read novel。 I found myself continuously frustrated with the main character and disliked not knowing all of her thought process when it was written in first person。 overall I found the writing style to be easy and the plot to be okay。

I couldn’t put it down。 And as a stepmom, I had the feels。

Honestly I really enjoyed this book until the end。 I couldn’t put it down and just wanted the happily ever after ending。

This is a book that forces the reader to ask a lot of questions, formulate possible answers, and be surprised at outcomes。 In other words, it keeps you engaged and thoughtful。 There is an unusual missing person story twist which is different and nice to see with so many titles in this genre。 Accompanied by a steady pace and flowing style, the start to finish was remarkably pleasant。 Except for a few bobbles in the last few chapters, and time flips that seemed unnecessary (chronological order is This is a book that forces the reader to ask a lot of questions, formulate possible answers, and be surprised at outcomes。 In other words, it keeps you engaged and thoughtful。 There is an unusual missing person story twist which is different and nice to see with so many titles in this genre。 Accompanied by a steady pace and flowing style, the start to finish was remarkably pleasant。 Except for a few bobbles in the last few chapters, and time flips that seemed unnecessary (chronological order is preferred) this is almost 5*。 The plot development was careful, the narrative well controlled and the teenager and step-mother characters well-defined。Well done, Ms。 Dave。 This will make a good film。 Let’ see now, who would I cast as the female lead? 。。。more

A good narrative and story。 I liked the flashes to the past that added context and depth。 It took a while to get into the narrator voice but once I read more it became quick。

This book was sooo good。 It kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to keep reading to find out what was happening。 Definitely would recommend this one!

Let's just say, I never saw the ending coming! I love a book that has me constantly trying to solve a puzzle and this one did not disappoint! The things we do for love, whether that is love for our children, our spouses or ourselves。 ❤️ Let's just say, I never saw the ending coming! The Last Thing He Told Me is a novel I enjoyed。 The characters were easy to follow and the plot kept me engaged enjoying the journey throughout the book。 Lately my mind has been wandering while listening to my audiobooks。 This book kept me grounded。 This is the first book read by this author。 I was impressed enough to check out other books Laura Dave has written。

The book started off great but I found the book just kind of deflated by the end。 This is probably my least favourite “Reese’s Book Club” pick so far。

I enjoyed this book quite a bit! It’s short and sweet, and there is no violence whatsoever。 It’s more contemporary fiction than mystery or thriller, and, in fact, I had a pretty good idea early on as to why Owen disappeared。 I don’t think the truth about his past was intended to be a twist or a big reveal; instead, the emphasis of the story was on the decisions that Hannah makes。 And one of those decisions was very unexpected。 Of course, the book also centers on Hannah’s relationship with Owen’s I enjoyed this book quite a bit! I thought the premise of this book was pretty good, it just seemed to drag on in parts with a lot of fretting and worrying。 Even with the flashbacks, i would have liked more about the relationship between Bailey and Owen/Ethan。 I don’t feel like I ever got to know his personality。I listened to the first half with my husband on a car trip but then the balance of the story we got in half hour increments which made it drag on a bit。 Might be a better book in a more fluid read or listen。

The last few times I've read one of Reese's books, they've been a little disappointing。 Like maybe at first year or so Reese picked the books herself then later farmed out the job to the intern? Also many of them started to have political agendas, which is huge turn-off。 Anyway, I stopped specifically seeking out her choices。 This novel, though, was fun, and while it was on the predictable end of the scale, I enjoyed it。Hannah and Owen have been married for a year, almost blissfully。 Owen, a wid The last few times I've read one of Reese's books, they've been a little disappointing。 Like maybe at first year or so Reese picked the books herself then later farmed out the job to the intern? Also many of them started to have political agendas, which is huge turn-off。 Anyway, I stopped specifically seeking out her choices。 This novel, though, was fun, and while it was on the predictable end of the scale, I enjoyed it。Hannah and Owen have been married for a year, almost blissfully。 Owen, a widower, brings 16 year-old daughter Bailey into the marriage, which is the only speed bump。。。Bailey is not fond of her new mom。 One day, Owen manages to smuggle a hastily-written note that says "Protect her", then disappears。 Hannah knows Owen means Bailey, but protect her from what? As if that isn't bad enough, Hannah then learns that Owen's tech startup has gone down in flames, the owner arrested for embezzlement。 Hannah, along with a surly teenager, must try to figure out what Owen is trying to run away from or hide。 They mine their memories, and chase an elusive past of which they had no knowledge。 Did either of them even really know Owen? Is Owen even his real name? So, people disappearing。 Very mainstream, very common。 Chase the clues, discover secrets, feel betrayed, find out that the missing person is cheating/dead/running from demons, blah blah blah。 And the plot in this story is exactly that。 None of the "secrets" surprised me, this is not something that will blow your mind。 But the writing is sharp, the pace is fast, and there is a difference or two between this story and others。 Much time is spent on the growing relationship between childless Hannah and difficult Bailey。 (Hey daughters are hard, even if they are biologically yours!) And the ending is NOT what I expected, and I loved that。 A little curveball is nice。 Rebecca Lowman。 The amazinggggg Rebecca Lowman。 There are so many audios she has narrated and brought to life。 Trust me, if you can get a chance to listen to her, you will thank me。 。。。more

this one was hard to put down once I got to about half way。 The build up was really good so I was worried the finish would let me down, but it did not。 Almost cried so I had to give it five stars。

I flew through this one。 I loved the first three quarters of this, but then (without spoilers) it went a little off the rails//I stopped suspending my disbelief。 I’d recommend this one as a quick and easy beach read。

The rescue of the husband was a bit too nice for me。

Kathie H。

Very fast paced。 I had trouble tearing myself away from it。 I couldn’t wait to find out the truth and see what would happen between Hannah, Owen and Bailey。 Great read!

Started off strong with an interesting premise but nothing really stood out about the plot。 It was definitely more character based than I was expecting going into it which isn't awful in and of itself as the characters are pretty likeable but i kept expecting a bigger twist that never came Started off strong with an interesting premise but nothing really stood out about the plot。 It was definitely more character based than I was expecting going into it which isn't awful in and of itself as the characters are pretty likeable but i kept expecting a bigger twist that never came 。。。more
