This manga gave me a weird feeling all throughout and the main character was just such a distasteful person。 Not once did I feel bad for him he was just such a whiny cry baby and blamed others for his lack of success。 What exactly was the point of that young character? She just used him and he knows it。 The ending did make feel some type of way but it wasn’t enough to make up for the whole manga。 He truly was a monster。

As every Inio Asano manga, this one is hard to read but in the best way posible, with moments that made me hate the main character but at the same time empathise with him

I am beyond annoyed that I can't find my review for this。I know I hate it enough that I definitely rant about it here but lo and behold it was empty。This is just a reminder for my future self。The book contains adultery and a depressed mangaka who handled his gradual loss of passion for his job by sleeping with many prostitutes。 I don't know why the mangaka chose to draw ugly girls as prostitutes, maybe for authenticity。 I dunno。It also has marital rape。 Joy。 I am beyond annoyed that I can't find my review for this。I know I hate it enough that I definitely rant about it here but lo and behold it was empty。This is just a reminder for my future self。The book contains adultery and a depressed mangaka who handled his gradual loss of passion for his job by sleeping with many prostitutes。 I don't know why the mangaka chose to draw ugly girls as prostitutes, maybe for authenticity。 I dunno。It also has marital rape。 Joy。 。。。more

should’a called this one “Diary of an Oxygen Thief”! it’s a much more worthy bearer of that fantastic title than the unfortunate heap that wound up with it first。 chilling and dark and precision targeted at stupid artist/opinion-havers like myself。 i will probably die a monster if i continue to care so much about sharpening my critical voice while also attempting to make art。 an unfulfilled, self-centered monster。 this is something I will return to many times。 it has claimed a bookshelf spot for should’a called this one “Diary of an Oxygen Thief”! it’s a much more worthy bearer of that fantastic title than the unfortunate heap that wound up with it first。 chilling and dark and precision targeted at stupid artist/opinion-havers like myself。 i will probably die a monster if i continue to care so much about sharpening my critical voice while also attempting to make art。 an unfulfilled, self-centered monster。 this is something I will return to many times。 it has claimed a bookshelf spot for introspective rereads for at least the next few years。 。。。more

Can’t decide if it was a character-study or a critique disguised as a character study but it was extremely compelling。

Three stars mainly for the artwork, which was incredible。 The drawings were cinematic, hyper-detailed and engaging。 The plot however。。。 maybe this is on me as I struggle to engage with introspective male characters with a history of sexual violence。 The main character was lethargic, sexist and I had no empathy for him。 I didn’t care what happened to him, and felt disdain for him the entire book。 The manic pixie dream girl trope at the end was the final straw for me! 1 star for the writing imo。

⭐️⭐️I’m honestly not to sure what the hype was about this book。 I personally think it sucked。 I just started reading Manga, and this is the worst one I’ve read so far。 I don’t recommend it at all。 Not worth the money。I almost couldn’t finish it。 And the rape part wasn’t needed。

Hey, you ever want to trigger a depressive dip? Feel like being weighed down by the gloominess of an unhappy life? Like stories that devolve from Cliffs of Woe into the Abyss of Despair? Have I got the manga for you!2。5 smudged gray stars out of 5

That story filled me with dread; probably should have seen it coming given the title, but even so, it is really hard to evaluate xD I loved the drawing and sense of anguish, but what a hateful character。

I really tried to like this but it keeps falling flat for me。 I had to read it twice to even truly try to understand the whole plot and it just disappointed me。 Without going into detail, I lost respect for the protag several times over and I understand that that is the point but truly, I feel as if this was a complete waste of my time。 Decide for yourself, though。 Perhaps we like different genres and have different tastes。

I get that the story is somewhat biographical and I should not be too critical of the character as a result, but in general the guy is simply nothing more than a pathetic wimp。 All of his criticisms are complete double standards, and as a result you feel nothing but annoyance to the protagonist。 Although I was fairly harsh, the book as a whole is fairly good and gets its message across - but when the message revolves around a single character, you have to be critical of that one character in specific。 The entire message of the book involves artists, but a lot of the message seems reduced to the main character being an asshole。 As a whole, the book clearly warrants four to five stars, but I simply cannot bring myself to give it that rating because of the character (just a personal preference)。 。。。more

This is a mangaka, from the (now) three works I have read has an emphasis on depression, sexuality, and self-sabotage。 Which this comic has all of that wrapped into a concise standalone。 It's particularly painful because I feel this in so many respects。 From a creative that feels tangible pain picking up my pencil to draw, to someone who is so far gone with attempting to connect with people that we're better off just self-isolating which only worsens the problem, to even a fan who sees their ins This is a mangaka, from the (now) three works I have read has an emphasis on depression, sexuality, and self-sabotage。 Which this comic has all of that wrapped into a concise standalone。 It's particularly painful because I feel this in so many respects。 From a creative that feels tangible pain picking up my pencil to draw, to someone who is so far gone with attempting to connect with people that we're better off just self-isolating which only worsens the problem, to even a fan who sees their inspiration as a God。 And I still carry that pain of waiting and wishing for more from them, knowing that it's pretty much final that I'll never get that, unlike this fan。 This was a one and done。 Perhaps, the emptiest I've ever felt when completing a book。 This is a story seething with self-loathing, from the surface to its core。 It's that self-loathing that feeds into every choice that this disillusioned mangaka makes, which only makes the hatred he has for himself stronger, uglier, and justified。 He's a monster, that's all he is, that's all he can be。 。。。more

I just finished this and honestly if I have to look at another man ever again, I'll be sick。 That's how mad this manga made me。 Which was like the aim, I'm fairly certain。 So give this a go if you want to read about a self-absorbed, pathetic deadbeat who radiates major "pick-me" vibes and trauma dumps on all of the women in his life。 Fukazawa is so painfully irredeemable and I just kept reading out of a need to see him get his come-uppance。 I don't know that I really got what I was looking for, I just finished this and honestly if I have to look at another man ever again, I'll be sick。 That's how mad this manga made me。 Which was like the aim, I'm fairly certain。 So give this a go if you want to read about a self-absorbed, pathetic deadbeat who radiates major "pick-me" vibes and trauma dumps on all of the women in his life。 Fukazawa is so painfully irredeemable and I just kept reading out of a need to see him get his come-uppance。 I don't know that I really got what I was looking for, but this was still a really worthy read。 The story meanders along in a way that kept me hanging on, and wanting to know what might happen next。 Absolutely beautiful art also, so detailed and clever, especially the double spreads!
