Summary

'Mason Cross is a fast-paced, high octane thriller writer。' Simon Kernick

THEN

Fifteen years ago, an unidentified killer terrorised northern Georgia, killing hikers with two shots from a pistol, before disposing of the bodies along the remote trails and in the rivers in the vicinity of Blood Mountain。

The killer was never brought to justice。

NOW

Carter Blake has returned home for the first time in many years。 The visit stirs old memories, including a girl from school who vanished without a trace。

Blake runs into the mother of the girl, who mentions a case she's come across in Georgia, where someone is convinced their relative is still alive, fifteen years on。

Adeline Connor was the Blood Mountain Killer's last suspected victim。 She vanished without a trace。

So why is her brother so convinced she's still alive?

Anorher great book from Mason cross。 Carter Blake is a man that is good at finding people that don't want to be found。 Is Adeline still alive? A survivor from a serial killer or involved? What are the local police hiding? Start with a remote mountain community, fifteen years earlier the “Devil mountain killer” went on a killing spree, the town never really got over such a heinous crime。Fast forward fifteen years and Carter Blake gets called into find a dead girl。。。The locals are far from friendly, they don’t want outsiders intruding in their business。There are plenty of twists and turns, lots of action, a good read

The usual from Mason Cross, a little light reading for me coming out of Dostoevsky's The House of the Dead。 I did guess the protagonist from early on but that didn't bother me, I enjoyed it anyway。 Last in series。 The usual from Mason Cross, a little light reading for me coming out of Dostoevsky's The House of the Dead。 I did guess the protagonist from early on but that didn't bother me, I enjoyed it anyway。 Last in series。 。。。more

Best book of the series! All books are great。

It was a slow start and didn't start getting interesting until about half way through, even then it could get slow again, but the twist at the end was something that definitely didn't expect! Interesting twist to the story but a bit unbelievable as there is no explanation of why the killer started。 Otherwise I liked the book and the character Carter Blake - a straight talking no bulls**t kind of guy。

SO GOOD I WENT BACK FOR SECONDS!!I've followed this series avidly, so when I saw this title, I was delighted。 Didn't even read the summary, just downloaded the book and started reading。 I'm reading chapter after chapter and getting that Deja vu feeling。 Yep, I'd read it before。😁 Got the book from library almost 18 months ago。 But you know what? It was absolutely worth another read。 In fact, I'm thinking of re-reading the rest of the series they're that good! I Enjoyed this book and really liked the twist at the end。 I have questions about past events but to voice these would be "spoiler alert" so I will just remain ignorant even though I know other readers might be able to cue me in。A good read and I'll be looking out for this author。I didn't read this twice but that's how it's looking on my page - technology and me not getting along as usual。 It was good but I wouldn't read it twice。 I Enjoyed this book and really liked the twist at the end。 I have questions about past events but to voice these would be "spoiler alert" so I will just remain ignorant even though I know other readers might be able to cue me in。A good read and I'll be looking out for this author。I didn't read this twice but that's how it's looking on my page - technology and me not getting along as usual。 It was good but I wouldn't read it twice。 。。。more

Loved this book。 I have read number 1 in the series then this ine number 5。 I didn't realise it was number five to begin with but since each book is a different story i don't think it really matters a big deal。 A missing woman, gone for 15 years is spotted by her brother。 Her onmy survivng relative。 Supposedly murdered 15 years ago by the Devil Mountain Killer。 Ensues a other batch of murders with the same MO。 Is the DMK back? Is it because David believes he saw his sister in Atlanta that is dredging everything back up? Read two previous Carter Blake novels and enjoyed all three, I think this was possibly the best。 I've now purchased the earlier two that I'd missed, can't wait to catch up。 If I didn't know better I would swear the author was American。 Read two previous Carter Blake novels and enjoyed all three, I think this was possibly the best。 I've now purchased the earlier two that I'd missed, can't wait to catch up。 If I didn't know better I would swear the author was American。 。。。more

I'm back to saying WOW!!What a fantastic book! It's beautifully written, with well fleshed out characters I cared very much for。 The pace was just right, with tension mounting as the story progresses。 I think it was a real challenge for Carter to figure out who was telling him the truth in Presumed Dead and even MORE of a challenge for this reader。 Brilliant storytelling! And, oh my gosh, the last couple of chapters left me feeling totally stunned。 My only disappointment with this book was that I'm back to saying WOW!!What a fantastic book! “What do you know about the Devil Mountain Killer?”Apparently nothing because this novel managed to mislead its biggest reveal until the very end。 I won’t go so far as to it was the most surprising twist I’ve ever come across, but it was pretty spectacular。As always, Carter remains a capable and likable hero and his novels are always good for an exciting time。 I also appreciate that it threads that line between mystery and action thriller in the vein of Reacher or The Gray Man。 It makes for a go “What do you know about the Devil Mountain Killer?”Apparently nothing because this novel managed to mislead its biggest reveal until the very end。 I won’t go so far as to it was the most surprising twist I’ve ever come across, but it was pretty spectacular。As always, Carter remains a capable and likable hero and his novels are always good for an exciting time。 I also appreciate that it threads that line between mystery and action thriller in the vein of Reacher or The Gray Man。 It makes for a good change of pace as you climb through the installments。 。。。more

Mason Cross is one of my new old favorites。 Yes, that's an oxymoron but it fits。There are some authors that I've been reading for many years, King, Doyle, Connelly, Sandford, Deaver, Poe, Maron, Braun and many others。 Some feel out of favor。 Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Lisa Scotoline for example。 Still others are new favorites; Kristoff, Hearne are but two of those。I came across Cross' name about 5 years ago and I wait anxiously for every new Carter Blake book。 Cross came on like gang bu Mason Cross is one of my new old favorites。 Yes, that's an oxymoron but it fits。There are some authors that I've been reading for many years, King, Doyle, Connelly, Sandford, Deaver, Poe, Maron, Braun and many others。 Some feel out of favor。 Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Lisa Scotoline for example。 Still others are new favorites; Kristoff, Hearne are but two of those。I came across Cross' name about 5 years ago and I wait anxiously for every new Carter Blake book。 Cross came on like gang busters in The Killing Season and hasn't missed a step since。 That's very true of this novel。Blake was given a name of a man by an old, old friend, a man whose sister was the last of the Devil Mountain Killer's victims。 。 。 or was she? The man insists that he saw his sister in Atlanta。 Wishful thinking? Maybe, but Blake can't let it rest until he finds out the truth。But then in the small town of Bethany, Georgia things begin to happen, killings with a modus operandi mirroring the horror of 15 years earlier。 And Black is right in the sights of the Sheriff and his deputy。 。 。 well, at least one of them。 There's also Isabella Green, another deputy who becomes more than someone helping Blake。 But be warned; Blake doesn't have a good history of lasting relationships。 You'll have to READ THE BOOK to find out how this one goes。 Who lives, who dies? Again you'll have to READ THE BOOK to find out, no spoilers from me。 Blake is a character that has depth and history。 You need to read the series in order for the most part to understand that history。 And his name is not Carter Blake。 But that's not a spoiler, you learn that from the very first in The Killing Season。 Adventured, lots of bang bang shoot 'em up, peril and redemption to an extent。 If that's your cup of tea and you aren't familiar with Carter Blake then you're missing out。 。。。more

3。5 starsThe problem with following this series is that he’s a UK writer so being in the States, I have to wait a little longer until the book is released here。But it's worth the wait。That being said, the previous book in the series was so good, this one had a lot to live up to。It wasn't as good as the previous ones hence the 3。5 stars。I like the Carter character。The story moves at a quick pace。 It switches b/w POV’s of various characters。So in the beginning, it’s annoying to have these differe 3。5 starsThe problem with following this series is that he’s a UK writer so being in the States, I have to wait a little longer until the book is released here。But it's worth the wait。That being said, the previous book in the series was so good, this one had a lot to live up to。It wasn't as good as the previous ones hence the 3。5 stars。I like the Carter character。The story moves at a quick pace。 It switches b/w POV’s of various characters。So in the beginning, it’s annoying to have these different people & their stories going along but I know that it won’t take long before the storylines merge & everything connects。This story was more of a mystery than the action thrillers the previous ones have been。 Also, it can be read as a stand alone。There were a lot of tiny clues throughout the narrative just like a Christie novel。 While I figured out some of it, I didn’t guess everything so the twist at the end was a surprise。 Still very smart writing。Big shout out to the publisher Orionbooks who releases these in the US!!I look forward to the next book in the series。 。。。more

Carter Blake is back out on the road, looking for people who don't want to be found or, in this case, a woman thought to have died many years ago。 Adeline Connor is believed to have been the last victim of the Devil Mountain Killer, a murderer who took several lives in small town Georgia, and was never apprehended。 David Connor, Adeline's brother, believes he saw his sister, alive and well, in Atlanta and he hires Carter Blake to track her down。 The only problem is that the previous investigator Carter Blake is back out on the road, looking for people who don't want to be found or, in this case, a woman thought to have died many years ago。 Adeline Connor is believed to have been the last victim of the Devil Mountain Killer, a murderer who took several lives in small town Georgia, and was never apprehended。 David Connor, Adeline's brother, believes he saw his sister, alive and well, in Atlanta and he hires Carter Blake to track her down。 The only problem is that the previous investigator he hired wound up dead and the local police in Georgia make it clear to Blake that they don't want him digging up the past。 The presence of police officer Isabella Green further complicates things for Blake。 Her father Arlo Green was another victim of the Devil Mountain Killer。 Does she want justice for him or does she have something to hide? 'Presumed Dead' was an absorbing read from paragraph one featuring Mason Cross's usual attention to detail and ability to bring every character, and scenario, into sharp focus。 He has an easy writing style which draws the reader in and keeps them there until the last page。 Very enjoyable book, although the ending may not be for everyone。 Four stars。 。。。more
