Summary

The Clave is pleased to announce the newest edition of the Nephilim’s oldest and most famous training manual: the Shadowhunter’s Codex。 Since the thirteenth century, the Codex has been the young Shadowhunter’s best friend。 When you’re being swarmed by demons it can be easy to forget the finer points of obscure demon languages or the fastest way to stop an attack of Raum demons。 With the Codex by your side, you never have to worry。

Now in its twenty-seventh edition, the Codex covers it all: the history and the laws of our world; how to identify, interact with, and if necessary, kill that world’s many colorful denizens; which end of the stele is the end you write with。 No more will your attempt to fight off rogue vampires and warlocks be slowed by the need to answer endless questions from your new recruits: What is a Pyxis? Why don’t we use guns? If I can’t see a warlock’s mark, is there a polite way to ask him where it is? Where do we get all our holy water? Geography, History, Magic, and Zoology textbook all rolled into one, the Codex is here to help new Shadowhunters navigate the beautiful, often brutal world that we inhabit。

Do not let it be said that the Clave is outdated or, as the younger Shadowhunters say, “uncool”: this new edition of the Codex will be available not only in the usual magically-sealed demonskin binding, but also in a smart, modern edition using all of today’s most exciting printing techniques, including such new features as a sturdy clothbound cover, a protective dust jacket, and information about title, author, publisher, and so on conveniently available right on the cover。 You’ll be pleased to know that it fits neatly into most satchels, and unlike previous editions, it rarely sets off alarm wards。

The old woodcuts and engravings have been replaced as well: instead, you’ll find lavish modern illustrations by some of the brightest luminaries of the fantastic。 Creatures, weapons, people, and places have been carefully and accurately rendered by the likes of Rebecca Guay, Charles Vess, Jim Nelson, Theo Black, Elisabeth Alba, and Cassandra Jean。 Chapters are beautifully introduced by the drawings of Michael Kaluta, and along with our condensation of the classic 2,450-page tome, A History of the Nephilim, you will find a selection of the best of the lovely illustrations of that volume by John Dollar。

This edition of the Codex will be available in Institute libraries and what mundanes sometimes call “book stores” in [SEPTEMBER], 2013。

I loved this companion book, the commentary from jace, clary and simon was priceless and the art was absolutely beautiful and so true to the vibe of the series。 it was a nice short read i’m glad I brought this on vacation and not a full book!

vivi

It was interesting to learn about the ways of the Nephilim and how the accords came along, along with learning about all the different types of downworlders。 I loved Clary, Jace and Simons imput into the book with all the silly notes added a bit of personality to an otherwise dull ish book。

Kaytlyn Singell

I loved the appearance of Clary, Simon and Jace。 So nice

Parisa

I did really enjoy the banter between Clary, Jace and Simon, but I wish there was more :)

Catarina Pozza

not going to rate it but I loved the drawings and notes lol

Nadia

This is not really a book I should I have read every word from and I have no idea how to rate it。 While I was reading it, I thought most of the time “I learned this already。 Is the book really needed?” But the notes made by the characters helped me along。 Their wittiness always brang a smile to my face。 Overall, a nice book to introduce the Shadowhunter universe for new fans!

Die Notizen von Clary, Jace und Simon sind recht unterhaltsam, allerdings ist es im allgemeinen natürlich nicht so spannend wie eine richtige Geschichte。 Trotzdem gut gemacht。

to be honest, it was quite boring。 not because it was bad, but because principe of this book are explanations。it was like reading an encyclopedia – slow page turning。 i prefer books mostly with normal text, but i think that the illustrations here are beautiful。and i’m huge shadowhunter fan, so i’m glad i read this codex and i don’t regret it。

Woww😍😃The hardcover ooh My❤️Gorgeous 🥰Lot of info about the shadow hunter world 🗺

Skylynn

I liked this book。 It isn’t meant to be read like the other books, I skipped some chapters and then returned to them。 I think it’s awesome a fantasy series has their own textbook!

Dorit

The drawings and the annotations by TMI characters are really awesome, but the texts were really boring and almost made me fall asleep。

Kerry

Although the book can read a lot like a textbook in terms of not all that exciting, it’s wonderful to have more information on Shadowhunters with the wonderful addition of notes “written/scribbled” by characters from the books (that are often hilarious)。 Definitely worth a read *if* you’re already a fan of the world of Shadowhunters。 (Also, a very cool addition to your collection if you are a big fan such as myself!)

Kaylee

I loved the art work。 Thought this was a neat little extra to the Shadowhunting universe。

I honestly think it's dazzling there's enough world building in the other books that Cassie wrote this entire book with so much extra world building into it。 THIS is a great example of adding in extra world building and I just love the little comments the characters wrote in the margins; they always crack me up。 I honestly think it's dazzling there's enough world building in the other books that Cassie wrote this entire book with so much extra world building into it。 THIS is a great example of adding in extra world building and I just love the little comments the characters wrote in the margins; they always crack me up。 。。。more

As a long time Shadowhunter fan, this book is pretty useless。 There's some interesting facts here and there and you get to learn more about Shadowhunter history, but overall it's full of information you'd already know if you read the books。 I did enjoy the artwork and Clary's doodles。 That was probably my favorite part of the book。 I was a little disappointed in the annotations by Clary, Jace, and Simon。 I was hoping they'd be more numerous as half of them are "get a room" and "oh really/I don't As a long time Shadowhunter fan, this book is pretty useless。 There's some interesting facts here and there and you get to learn more about Shadowhunter history, but overall it's full of information you'd already know if you read the books。 I did enjoy the artwork and Clary's doodles。 That was probably my favorite part of the book。 I was a little disappointed in the annotations by Clary, Jace, and Simon。 I was hoping they'd be more numerous as half of them are "get a room" and "oh really/I don't care/skip。"I tried to get through this as fast as possible so I could get back to the main stories。 I'd say this really isn't a necessary book and you'd be fine skipping it。 。。。more

If you are a fan of the Shadowhunter collection this is a fun read and a great library piece。 Is it unnecessary, yes。 Did I still read it, 100%。 Mind you it is a textbook rather than a novel。 Do not read if you want a typical Shadowhunter story book。 If you want to dive deeper into the Shadowhunter world and fully immerse yourself in the magic read this book!

I love this codex, you can read about how to be a shadowhunter and how to live as one。 everything you read about in each of the series。 you can see all of the runes that your favourite shadowhunters use but my favourite thing about the codex is the little notes from Clary, Jace and Simon as Simon ascends to become a shadowhunter plus some notes from the brilliant magnus bane。 it is well worth the read and look through if you are like a fan of the shadowhunter world。

This book took waaay too long to read。。。but what can I say, I just finished taking fifteen credits。 Priorities。 Anyways, I liked this codex overall。 It was very informative, and I learned a lot more about the Shadow World than I thought I would。 The witch trials bit was especially interesting。 I LOVED all of the illustrations in this book。 I think it's what really kept me going。 The illustrations for each chapter were my favorites。 I also loved seeing all the notes that Jace, Clary, and Simon sc This book took waaay too long to read。。。but what can I say, I just finished taking fifteen credits。 Priorities。 Anyways, I liked this codex overall。 It was very informative, and I learned a lot more about the Shadow World than I thought I would。 The witch trials bit was especially interesting。 I LOVED all of the illustrations in this book。 I think it's what really kept me going。 The illustrations for each chapter were my favorites。 I also loved seeing all the notes that Jace, Clary, and Simon scribbled down。 Sometimes they were hard to read, or hard to figure out who was saying what, but it was cool nonetheless。 I like how Clary sketches little drawings throughout the book too。 Very cool。 。。。more

Está tudo nos outros livros das sagas da Cassandra, por isso, pode tornar-se cansativo para quem acompanha os livros。Tem anotações da Clary, do Simon e do Jace, que acrescenta uma ponta de humor。

The book was really good and allowed me to understand the politics of the shadowhunters society even better。

4⭐️ This is a weird book to review since it’s really a book full of information written like it’s for new Shadowhunters。 At times it could be a little bit boring and if you read TMI most of the information won’t be new to you but what made it fun for me was the little notes from Clary, Simon and Jace (and a little bit from Luke & Magnus too) and I also decided to do that myself too。 It was really weird to write in a book but it felt like I was part of it a lot more and even chose a Shadowhunters 4⭐️ This is a weird book to review since it’s really a book full of information written like it’s for new Shadowhunters。 At times it could be a little bit boring and if you read TMI most of the information won’t be new to you but what made it fun for me was the little notes from Clary, Simon and Jace (and a little bit from Luke & Magnus too) and I also decided to do that myself too。 It was really weird to write in a book but it felt like I was part of it a lot more and even chose a Shadowhunters name: Destiny Bluerose 😂 The artwork is amazing and it’s a quick read。 I recommend it if you like the other books but it’s not something you need to read to understand the world better。 。。。more
