Good god this book was tedious, but the actual *plot* was okay。 The book would be about 30% as long as it is, if it wasn't up it's own butt with all the completely unimportant 80s references。 Glad I'm done with it。 Good god this book was tedious, but the actual *plot* was okay。 The book would be about 30% as long as it is, if it wasn't up it's own butt with all the completely unimportant 80s references。 Glad I'm done with it。 。。。more

Dry and long windedVery dry compared to the 1st book。 Chapters felt super long and honestly overwritten in my opinion。 It's a little disappointing compared to ready player one。 This one felt a little rushed。 Still had the nostalgia like me the 1st book did, but felt a little overplayed。 And also has almost identical plot to ready player one just with a different riddle and scenery。 Overall it's a "good" book but far from great like the 1st one。 Dry and long windedVery dry compared to the 1st book。 Chapters felt super long and honestly overwritten in my opinion。 It's a little disappointing compared to ready player one。 This one felt a little rushed。 Still had the nostalgia like me the 1st book did, but felt a little overplayed。 And also has almost identical plot to ready player one just with a different riddle and scenery。 Overall it's a "good" book but far from great like the 1st one。 。。。more

Game Over。This was utterly disappointing as a sequel。 Everything I loved about Ready Player One was demolished。 Wade Watts is unrecognizable。 The story line is dull, overplayed。 I finished it out of obligation, but will forget it going forward and pretend RPO is a stand alone。 So disheartening!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Basically a rehash of the first book。 And it needed a better editor。 Did we need 35 pages (3 chapters) about the Prince planet? Why are robots that are controlled by two 20-something billionaires and a barely mentioned third character rescuing Ogden from a guy with a gun to Ogden's head? Since when is Samantha a trauma doctor? And did we need so many pages at the beginning to show just how depressive Wade had become?TL;DR The story could have been much tighter。 And probably more compelling with Basically a rehash of the first book。 And it needed a better editor。 Did we need 35 pages (3 chapters) about the Prince planet? Ernest Cline does it again Taking another trip down memory lane with Wade and the gang。 I love the blend of nostalgia and adventure Cline puts into these novels。 It grabs you from the get go and holds on until the very end。

Candy。 You crave it and it tastes delicious。 Similar quest story to Ready Player One。 Lots of trivia based story line similar to the deep dives of the first book。 It’s fun but it won’t change your life。 I wouldn’t recommend it and I wouldn’t judge you if you enjoyed it。 Just don’t eat too much of it。

For as much fun as Ready Player 1 was this was the opposite。 A chore to read, characters were unlikeable, too much nostalgia crammed in。

I've seen all the negative reviews (even one that described the book as 'pinko uber left propaganda'!) and was expecting the worst。 To be honest, it's justified what I've always said about reviews。 Treat them with a pinch of salt, don't let them rule your expectations, and don't let negative reviews put you off buying a book from an author that you've read and enjoyed before。 If you enjoyed the first book, Ready Player One, then there is a good chance you will enjoy this。It's not as good as Read I've seen all the negative reviews (even one that described the book as 'pinko uber left propaganda'!) and was expecting the worst。 To be honest, it's justified what I've always said about reviews。 Treat them with a pinch of salt, don't let them rule your expectations, and don't let negative reviews put you off buying a book from an author that you've read and enjoyed before。 If you enjoyed the first book, Ready Player One, then there is a good chance you will enjoy this。It's not as good as Ready Player One, but I wasn't really expecting it to be。 You already know the characters, the back story and the universe it is set in, so there are no surprises there, which were a key part of the first book。 But that is pretty much the case for all sequels, and it's never stopped me watching or reading them before。 Ready Player Two is a little slow to get going。 Mainly because they've got to set the scene again, to a stage where the High 5 are all now billionaires, and some explanation of what they've all done with that wealth and status and how their characters have been affected。 However, once it does get going with a new hunt, apparently set by Halliday from his death bed again, the book starts to roll。If you grew up in the 80s like me or are an 80s aficionado, then the book still has the same buzz as the first with all the references and shout outs to 80s culture。 Prince fans in particular will be happy with this book and there are a lot more musical references, as well as the normal references to 80s games and TV。 If you are feeling at all nostalgic for that magical golden era then this is definitely worth a read。 。。。more

Overall it was enjoyable but to me felt somewhat unnecessary I guess? It seemed like the same lesson was learned at the end that was learned at the end of the last book, and this adventure started off with a complete 180 turn by the character that seemed to forget that lesson。 But, it's still a decently fun read and has some cool concepts, just doesn't feel as well done as the first, which is a great read! Quick read with enjoyable 80s and 90s references and the inevitable comparison to San Junipero and U。S。S。 Callister, which do happen to be two of my favorite Black Mirror episodes。

I almost put this book down after 50 pages and walked away。 In the end I’m glad I didn’t, but readers should know going in that the pacing of this book manages to spoil what should have been a fun return to a familiar world filled with all the pop/nerd culture you could want。 Be prepared to slog through a bit to get to the book you wanted to read。Instead, it spends an unbearable amount of time explaining the details of technology and then the backstory of the development of the technology and th I almost put this book down after 50 pages and walked away。 In the end I’m glad I didn’t, but readers should know going in that the pacing of this book manages to spoil what should have been a fun return to a familiar world filled with all the pop/nerd culture you could want。 Be prepared to slog through a bit to get to the book you wanted to read。Instead, it spends an unbearable amount of time explaining the details of technology and then the backstory of the development of the technology and then more details about all of that again before we really get to the adventure。 Then, inexplicably, the adventure is where the pacing picks up (at times to levels that didn’t even seem to make sense with the timeline in the book)。 It felt like it missed the opportunity to do some heavy editing at the front end and tell the heart of the adventure better。 。。。more

Welp。 That was。。。 something。 I was completely prepared to say that maybe people were judging this book a little bit too harshly until I got to the last 50 pages or so。 Yiiiiiikes。 I don't want to give too much away, but the one thing I will say is that one of my biggest complaints with Ready Player One was that it seemed pretty uninterested in the fact that people's real lives were so bad that everyone just lived virtually all the time。 And at first it seemed like Ready Player Two was really goi Welp。 That was。。。 something。 I was completely prepared to say that maybe people were judging this book a little bit too harshly until I got to the last 50 pages or so。 Yiiiiiikes。 I don't want to give too much away, but the one thing I will say is that one of my biggest complaints with Ready Player One was that it seemed pretty uninterested in the fact that people's real lives were so bad that everyone just lived virtually all the time。 And at first it seemed like Ready Player Two was really going to delve into that。 But that。。。 did not happen。 We ended the second book in basically the same place as the first - "Everything's going to shit and we're probably all going to destroy the planet and die miserable deaths, but it's cool because VR is awesome LOL!!!!!!" And in order to end in that place, at least one character's entire personality and motivation needed to do an abrupt 180 about 1/3 of the way through the book。 There was also a huge pacing issue, with the first half of the book being a snoozefest and then suddenly shifting gears into non-stop action。But, you know, I love John Hughes and I love Prince, so 1 star for each of those sections。 The pop culture was the highlight。 The pop culture is why everyone loved the first book。 More pop culture, please, and less。。。 whatever the rest of this was。 。。。more
