What a fun adventure! Science hijinks! History! This will be great fun for teens who love Lumberjanes。

This action-filled graphic novel is full of science, gadgets, and famous female scientists。 I loved the elements of competition among women (and scientists in general) that were included, and the scientist biographies at the end make it a great addition for classroom use。 I will definitely be purchasing this one for our high school library。

Capped at 4/5 stars due to cheesy villains and a measly one-page training montage, but I appreciated the science and some interpersonal dynamics。 Obviously intended for younger audiences, but wonderfully concentrated in plot compared to others in the genre。

Secret societies + STEM + squad goals = The Curie Society。 Great team-up action/adventure graphic novel。 Would recommend to 8th grade & up readers。 I love the STEM principles incorporated into the work, and I think young readers will as well。 Excited to read additional books in this series。

Cute premise and some good plotting, but everything felt rather forced, like it was designed by committee。

The illustrations include a lot of dark colors, which makes sense since a fair amount of scenes are either at night or in underground or enclosed spaces。 The print is very small, and rather dense, which combined with some of the themes makes this perfect for older readers。 There's plenty of science and technology in this; pyrotechnics, drones, surveillance equipment, animal regeneration, artificial intelligence, and much, much more。 The tie in with Marie Curie is good to see, and the book ends with a quantity of thumbnail biographies of real women scientists。 In addition to the science, there is plenty of drama; Simone struggles with being away from home and with people treating her like a child, Maya is unhappy with her career trajectory and is wooed by the rogue scientists, and Taj has a scene in which a fraternity party ends with predatory behavior exhibited by the male students。。。 whom she quickly subdues with some quality ninja moves。 Dr。 Burkhart's flashbacks also provided some examples of bravery and drama in her own background。 There aren't a whole lot of science fiction graphic novels, especially for older middle grade and high school readers, but this is a great addition to books like Sanity and Tallulah, Pepper Page Saves the Universe, Cosmoknights, and Space Battle Lunchtime。 。。。more

Do global warming interest you? Many young girls will find a love for STEM and science with this book。 While some of it was over my head, I grasped the whole of the book。 If I had something like this when I was younger I might have been more interested in STEM and the sciences, which is what I think the authors were going for when they wrote this, to inspire you girls and women to find a passion here and pursue it as a career。This was given as a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion NetGalley 。。。more

3。5 Stars Thank you, MIT Press, for the review copy。 The Curie Society is (hopefully) the first instalment in a series of books following Simone, Taj and Maya in their adventures。 As an introduction to a series, I think this book works well。 I am pretty sure it will be a series because while there is an ending it isn’t final and leaves room for much more story and character development。 The characters are likeable, and the world building is interesting, plus I really loved the art。 There is an e 3。5 Stars Thank you, MIT Press, for the review copy。 The Curie Society is (hopefully) the first instalment in a series of books following Simone, Taj and Maya in their adventures。 As an introduction to a series, I think this book works well。 I am pretty sure it will be a series because while there is an ending it isn’t final and leaves room for much more story and character development。 The characters are likeable, and the world building is interesting, plus I really loved the art。 There is an element of predictability with both the characters and the plot but it’s more reassuringly familiar。 As I enjoyed reading this, I didn’t mind that my assumptions about the story turned out correct。 I think this still works even if you can guess where the plot is taking you。 。。。more

This was so fun with a great premise, interesting characters, and fantastic art! I loved all of the science and college elements, and then, when we get to the main meat of the story, it was such a wild ride! I could see this being a really good book to pick up for any teen looking to get into a STEM field or just has a passion for sciences!

An absolutely delightful read especially for young girls with an interest in STEM。

3。5 stars。 This was a quick & fun graphic novel。 I loved the concept but the execution fell a little flat。 I’d definitely continue on in the series though because I think the character development & missions would only continue to get better。 I think it’s hard to write a great first comic! Hopefully there are more to come 🤞🏼

I think I’d have really enjoyed this if I were about 10-12。 Smart girls saving things would have worked for me as a kid so I’d recommend it to the right kid…

This book was fun。 The art, the feminism, and the premise, were all great assets to this book。 The only reason that it's not rated higher is because it felt a little obvious and didn't really suprise me。 However, when the series continues I don't know if I'm going to continue, just because I wasn't very connected to this book, but I might。 This book was fun。 The art, the feminism, and the premise, were all great assets to this book。 The only reason that it's not rated higher is because it felt a little obvious and didn't really suprise me。 However, when the series continues I don't know if I'm going to continue, just because I wasn't very connected to this book, but I might。 。。。more

The premise was interesting。 The characters’ personalities were basic but individual and strong enough。 The girl power based around STEM was cute and worked well enough。 The plot was just trying to do too much in such a short span that it weakened rather than fleshed it out。 The overall arc would’ve been better paced in a multi-volume story rather than a mere few hundred pages。 It’s like watching a book to movie adaptation where they shove the series plot into the first movie to defeat the bad g The premise was interesting。 The characters’ personalities were basic but individual and strong enough。 The girl power based around STEM was cute and worked well enough。 The plot was just trying to do too much in such a short span that it weakened rather than fleshed it out。 The overall arc would’ve been better paced in a multi-volume story rather than a mere few hundred pages。 It’s like watching a book to movie adaptation where they shove the series plot into the first movie to defeat the bad guy and it just throws the paving off。 。。。more

I truly enjoyed reading this graphic novel。 I was very curie-ous about the development of the idea at the basis of the book, female scientists empowering each other。 And I found my expectations were not disappointed。 The main characters of this story are three young girl teens interested in science, each with different interests and personalities, who soon got involved in a secret society, the Curie Society, founded by Marie Curie in 1903 to support women in science。 Our heroines found themselve I truly enjoyed reading this graphic novel。 I was very curie-ous about the development of the idea at the basis of the book, female scientists empowering each other。 And I found my expectations were not disappointed。 The main characters of this story are three young girl teens interested in science, each with different interests and personalities, who soon got involved in a secret society, the Curie Society, founded by Marie Curie in 1903 to support women in science。 Our heroines found themselves leaving apart their interests and overcome their ambitions, for working together on an unexpected mission。 Even if this graphic novel is expressively designed for a young audience, I think that many elements could interest also grown-ups: leadership, failure, ambition, collaboration, loyalty are everyday topics for scientists to deal with。 Besides, a lot of real science is introduced in the story: ionic planes, de-extinction of lost species, ecosystems conservation profit from illustration to effectively explain the most recent science discoveries。 I could just be a little disappointed by the open final until I realize more sciencey adventures could come in the near future。 。。。more

This had a good premise, but the execution was lacking。 The tropes that were used were not well executed (i。e。 pushy parents, selfish overachiever learning to work with others, etc。) and overall took away from the actual story。 I really wanted to like this, but it was mediocre at best。 I was more interested in the information at the end of the book regarding the technology and real people than the actual story。
