Summary

In 1904, a little-known Englishman named James Allen wrote a small book called As a Man Thinketh。 A hundred years later, this book has become a self-empowerment classic。 New World Library author and publisher Marc Allen updated this timeless gem, recasting obsolete language and polishing the author's message to highlight the universal principles of the original。 James Allen's message has now reached a whole new generation of readers with As You Think。 Great truths are simple and easy to express, and James Allen's insights into self-empowerment are just that: Personal power lies within the mind。 Once awakened, there are no limits to what one can imagine and then achieve with the power of thought。 The author shares deep insights into the essential relationship of a person's thoughts to personal character, life circumstances, physical health, life purpose, achievement, and personal serenity。 As You Think is a simple yet powerful reminder that "all we achieve and all that we fail to achieve is the direct result of our own thoughts。" We are the masters of our destinies。

Love it! I like the version with the older cool sounding English a little more, but this is pretty darned awesome too。

Short and to the point, this little book is a gem。 I read it some 20 years ago, re-read it now and will probably re-read it again some time。

We often forget or overlook the power of our thoughts。 This simple, short book brings us back to that power。It serves as a great way to refocus your thoughts and helps remind you of just how influential such thoughts can be in terms of how we feel or what our status in life is。Sure, the book is, at times, surface-level, but I’m not sure what else you could expect from such a short read。 Despite that brevity, it still packs a nice punch and provides good value。 I recommend checking it out。-Brian We often forget or overlook the power of our thoughts。 This simple, short book brings us back to that power。It serves as a great way to refocus your thoughts and helps remind you of just how influential such thoughts can be in terms of how we feel or what our status in life is。Sure, the book is, at times, surface-level, but I’m not sure what else you could expect from such a short read。 Despite that brevity, it still packs a nice punch and provides good value。 I recommend checking it out。-Brian SachettaAuthor of “Get Out of Your Head” 。。。more

A fast read, and if you've been reading this sort of thing, a very preliminary introduction to thinking that has developed a lot over the 100+ years since the book was written。 But worth reading if only to know some of the foundational texts of "positive psychology"。 A fast read, and if you've been reading this sort of thing, a very preliminary introduction to thinking that has developed a lot over the 100+ years since the book was written。 But worth reading if only to know some of the foundational texts of "positive psychology"。 。。。more

Content is similar to what I have read in The Secret book。 "How our thoughts can impact our life and action" is very well explained。 Other than that most of the things I already knew or has read it somewhere。 Content is similar to what I have read in The Secret book。 "How our thoughts can impact our life and action" is very well explained。 Other than that most of the things I already knew or has read it somewhere。 。。。more

For being written in 1904, this book has a lot of relative information for our modern day helping us take a more introspective look at ourselves。 For instance, one of my favorite excerpts is, "Circumstance does not make the person, it reveals the person to himself or herself" and then later states that "we cannot directly choose our circumstances, but we can choose our thoughts, and so indirectly shape our circumstances。" Putting some of James Allen's insightful ideas into practice could really For being written in 1904, this book has a lot of relative information for our modern day helping us take a more introspective look at ourselves。 For instance, one of my favorite excerpts is, "Circumstance does not make the person, it reveals the person to himself or herself" and then later states that "we cannot directly choose our circumstances, but we can choose our thoughts, and so indirectly shape our circumstances。" Putting some of James Allen's insightful ideas into practice could really make a big impact on our personal outlook and overall attitude in life。 I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have take a closer look at how their own thoughts can have a significant impact on the person we are。 。。。more

This is good stuff that I needed and have shared with a few others。 It's short, approachable, and pity。 I can also see it being a hard read for some for whom circumstance is hard。 I appreciate that is actually addressed in the book, but there are times where it feels like it negates the reality that other people really can mess your life up。 I suppose what I'm saying is it felt a wee bit imbalanced in that regard, but overall very good stuff。 This is good stuff that I needed and have shared with a few others。 It's short, approachable, and pity。 I can also see it being a hard read for some for whom circumstance is hard。 I appreciate that is actually addressed in the book, but there are times where it feels like it negates the reality that other people really can mess your life up。 I suppose what I'm saying is it felt a wee bit imbalanced in that regard, but overall very good stuff。 。。。more

Quick read。 Good advice that unfortunately falls to the same issue as other Secret-esque books -- transforms any failure or tragedy into the complete responsibility of the human suffering it。 Because of course they were calling disaster to themselves through wrong thinking。 Is good thought a good idea? Yes。 Will it help with your success? Probably。 Will it guarantee all good things independent of the rest of the world? Not so much。
