Scot Harvath returns in the newest thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor。

The world’s largest bounty has just been placed upon America’s top spy。 His only hope for survival is to outwit, outrun, and outlast his enemies long enough to get to the truth。

But for Scot Harvath to accomplish his most dangerous mission ever—one that has already claimed the lives of the people closest to him, including his new wife—he’s going to need help—a lot of it。

Not knowing whom he can trust, Harvath finds an unlikely ally in Norwegian intelligence operative Sølvi Kolstad。 Just as smart, just as deadly, and just as determined, she not only has the skills, but also the broken, troubled past to match Harvath’s own。

Meh。 It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything spectacular。

This was my first time reading this series, or this author, and I felt I should have read at least the prior book before picking this one up。 I think the first part of the book, brought me up to speed but the wrapping up left more to be desired。 Scot Horvath is an interesting, flawed character though。

A computer could have written this book with predictive text after scanning all previous Brad Thor novels。 I think Brad Thor must copy descriptive paragraphs from previous books and paste them into his “new” books。 Not enough action。 No original plot action。

Great and fast moving。 Loving the detail and the humor also。 I had forgotten how good a writer Brad Thor is。 Thank you for bringing me back into the fold。

I have enjoyed many of Thor’s books and did this one as well。 I’m not ranking it as highly as I have others because it seemed to lack the cohesiveness and momentum others have。 The ending was especially unsatisfying。 Without spoiling it, I didn’t get why the BIG decision was made。 I assume it is a setup for future book(s) but it didn’t make sense in light of how he handled the decisions leading up to the final one。 Also the book seemed to build and build to a rushed ending where everything was n I have enjoyed many of Thor’s books and did this one as well。 I’m not ranking it as highly as I have others because it seemed to lack the cohesiveness and momentum others have。 The ending was especially unsatisfying。 Without spoiling it, I didn’t get why the BIG decision was made。 I assume it is a setup for future book(s) but it didn’t make sense in light of how he handled the decisions leading up to the final one。 Also the book seemed to build and build to a rushed ending where everything was neatly packaged in very few pages。 It was as if the author got board and wanted to put it to bed, or realized he was at the magic number of pages and needed to wrap up。 Another little note: It seems the author has felt the need to increase profanity over the other books I’ve read。 I get it, it’s characteristically cultural, but a I have never seen that as an adequate excuse to not be more creative and to leave somethings to the imagination。 Joel Rosenberg is amazing in this respect and his books are among my favorites for many of the same reasons I read Thor。 Not the best in my opinion, but is a fun read, and advances the main characters story。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Was a great read almost until the end。 The detail, the characters, the action was great。 Then, all of a sudden that just disappeared and it felt like the author ran out of ideas and just wanted to finish the book by or even like someone else wrote the last few chapters。 The final scene (excluding the epilogue) was a huge disappointment。 In fact it didn't make sense。 It's totally against the character of Harvath。 The epilogue was nice but predictable。 Was a great read almost until the end。 The detail, the characters, the action was great。 Then, all of a sudden that just disappeared and it felt like the author ran out of ideas and just wanted to finish the book by or even like someone else wrote the last few chapters。 The final scene (excluding the epilogue) was a huge disappointment。 In fact it didn't make sense。 It's totally against the character of Harvath。 The epilogue was nice but predictable。 。。。more

Good summer read。 I like the character - Scot Harvath is a true bad ass。 The author does a good job in describing places and characters。 Enjoyed the the visual descriptions and the trips you take with them。 Sometime the motive and circumstance are not as well explained。。。 Like the inaction between characters。

Scot Harvath is hunted by another Russian。 He joins forces with another warrior and track down the bad guys。

This is another thriller featuring Scot Harvath, an ex-Navy SEAL and former secret service agent who now works for a private contracting firm, the Reed Carlton Group。 The Carlton Group takes on jobs the CIA can’t or won’t do regarding spying and anti-terrorist activity。 This story is an extension of a previous edition of this series where Scot’s wife, the CEO of the Carlton Group and the second in Command at the Carlton Group are all killed。 Scot takes his revenge against the Russians who were b This is another thriller featuring Scot Harvath, an ex-Navy SEAL and former secret service agent who now works for a private contracting firm, the Reed Carlton Group。 The Carlton Group takes on jobs the CIA can’t or won’t do regarding spying and anti-terrorist activity。 This story is an extension of a previous edition of this series where Scot’s wife, the CEO of the Carlton Group and the second in Command at the Carlton Group are all killed。 Scot takes his revenge against the Russians who were behind those killings in that thriller。 Now, the Russians want revenge against Scot personally。 The Russian President has a rich friend who is heavily involved in the Russian Mafia offer a $100 million contract to the first person in a group of paid assassins to kill of Scot Harvath。 This cutout gives the Russian government plausible deniability regarding this contract to kill Scot。 This leads to quite a mystery and plenty of action as Scot and his friends try to determine who offered the contract and who might try to full fill the contract。 And in the meantime, how do they keep Scot alive。 Plenty of first-rate action and realistic descriptions of events, equipment and capabilities of both our side and the Russian side in this undeclared, unofficial war。 。。。more

RidiculousI'm not sure how many more of these I'll read。 The characters don't feel human at all。 The author has constructed a fantasyland where only his hero even at 40% is still better then anyone else? Give me a break。 The fact that the main hero just lost someone he claims he loves then falls in love with someone else by the end of the book is just pathetic。 There are much better series that follow a better narrative that flows book by book。 I'd recommend those RidiculousI'm not sure how many more of these I'll read。 The characters don't feel human at all。 The author has constructed a fantasyland where only his hero even at 40% is still better then anyone else? Not having read the previous 18 Scot Harvath books did not pose a major impediment to my ability to follow the plot。 Scot pulled the trigger and shoots the bad guy。 Sølvi pulls her trigger two times and shoots two bad guys。 Curiously, not one bad guy is ever shot without a trigger having been pulled。 Scot is devastatingly handsome。 Sølvi is professional-model gorgeous。 You know they have to get together in the end – to recap the plot premise and to set up number 20。

Todd Friars

Not one of Thor’s best books。 Missing drama and excitement that you usually find in his books。

Good book

Just like all the other Scot Harbaugh books。 Super quick easy and fun read

I’ve read almost all of this series so am familiar with Thor’s writing。 This book took a long time to get there and then the end felt very rushed to me。 That said, it’s always a solid read。

Consistent with the other Scot Harvath novels。

Near Dark checks all my boxes。 Handsome spy teams with a beautiful badass partner with matching sarcasm wittily delivered。Brad Thor also had me drawn to these characters by their very relatable experiences。 Both falling into the darkness of self-destructive behaviors from painful pasts and the struggles faced in getting back to their life。

Back to the future I guess。 I decided to pick up the most recent Thor thriller as finding the last few early works has been a bit hard。 But I'll keep trying。This book finds Scot Harvath on the receiving end of a "contract" to snuff out his life。 But fear not I won't reveal any info that will spoil it。 The best thing about it is the location。 A portion of the story takes place in France, in Normandy at the Abbey Mont-Saint-Michel。 I've been there and it is really as breathtaking as the author des Back to the future I guess。 I decided to pick up the most recent Thor thriller as finding the last few early works has been a bit hard。 But I'll keep trying。This book finds Scot Harvath on the receiving end of a "contract" to snuff out his life。 But fear not I won't reveal any info that will spoil it。 The best thing about it is the location。 A portion of the story takes place in France, in Normandy at the Abbey Mont-Saint-Michel。 I've been there and it is really as breathtaking as the author describes。 A helluva place for a chase! With much less violence/heavy action than in previous books, Thor allows the reader to follow the careful thought processes that go into each and ever aspect of a mission the Harvath is involved with。 And, oh, is he involved in this one! While more cerebral than previous entries in the Harvath books, there is still plenty of action, and the story, as always, moves at lightening speed。 Highly emotional and deeply personal, Near Dark is an amazing character study of one of the best literary heroes With much less violence/heavy action than in previous books, Thor allows the reader to follow the careful thought processes that go into each and ever aspect of a mission the Harvath is involved with。 And, oh, is he involved in this one!
