Of course I want to be like them。 They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire。 They will live forever。

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest。 I hate him more than all the others。 I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe。

Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie。 Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality。 But many of the fey despise humans。 Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King。

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences。

As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed。 But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself。

So。 This book is ok/fineIt wasn’t horrible (like ACOTAR) and it wasn’t spectacular。 I was writing a review when I was 90% thro the book and I could not for the life of me remember anyone’s names besides Jude and Cardan。 I wanna blame it on the pov (first person pRESENT tense, which was awkward as heck to read。 "I say…he says"), but it’s just the story。 The characters and plot were okay。 I feel like the book is missing something, like it’s almost there。 But not :/I gave it 4 stars because I don’t So。 This book is ok/fineIt wasn’t horrible (like ACOTAR) and it wasn’t spectacular。 I was writing a review when I was 90% thro the book and I could not for the life of me remember anyone’s names besides Jude and Cardan。 I wanna blame it on the pov (first person pRESENT tense, which was awkward as heck to read。 "I say…he says"), but it’s just the story。 The characters and plot were okay。 I feel like the book is missing something, like it’s almost there。 But not :/I gave it 4 stars because I don’t hAte it。 It’s just meh。 I wish I could put it as 3。5 stars thoWould I recommend? It’s enemies to lovers (which I can’t say much about without spoilers) YA fantasy。 So read it if that's your thing。 But for me, it was just okay。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book。 I’m not sure if I’ll be going onto the second in the series this year or not。 I wish there were a little more romance development between the two main characters, but overall it was action packed, eventful, fantasy-filled, and had a plot twist for sure。

And as for Cardan, I was surpised at how much I had grown to care for him by the last few chapters。 Believe me, I desperately wanted to twist his fae ears in the early parts of the book。 Still kinda do but not so much now。I will end my rant on the characters by saying this。 Taryn and Locke deserve each other and I hope they both treat each other with as much of love and respect as they gave Jude :DMy only negative comment is that the first half was slow and despite it being interesting enough for me to keep reading, it did get a little boring for me。 I just felt as if it lacked something 。。。more

I've seen this recommended a lot。 I'm not sure if those people liked the romance or liked the prince in general, but I would barely call this a romance。 The fantasy elements were not bad but I didn't really enjoy reading this so I wouldn't recommend。 I've seen this recommended a lot。 I'm not sure if those people liked the romance or liked the prince in general, but I would barely call this a romance。 The fantasy elements were not bad but I didn't really enjoy reading this so I wouldn't recommend。 。。。more

。。。more

Great world building and romance with twists and turns

Going into it I had no idea what to expect from this book, but it surprised me in all the right ways。 It has a main character that I can actually relate to, which rarely happens。 The story kept me hooked until the very end and I will start reading The Wicked King immedially。 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I read "how the king of Elfhame learned to hate stories" and adored it。 The writing in this book was good, but not quite on par with that。 Given that this is the first in the series, I'm willing to overlook that though。The thing that got me to rate the book 4 instead of 5 stars is simply because I feel I was tricked by marketing to read something I wasn't in the mood for。 The title, coverlet, as well as the tags on Amazon and booktube all implied this was a dark romance, but I felt like the stor I read "how the king of Elfhame learned to hate stories" and adored it。 The writing in this book was good, but not quite on par with that。 Given that this is the first in the series, I'm willing to overlook that though。The thing that got me to rate the book 4 instead of 5 stars is simply because I feel I was tricked by marketing to read something I wasn't in the mood for。 The title, coverlet, as well as the tags on Amazon and booktube all implied this was a dark romance, but I felt like the story focused more on self-discovery and coming of age as it's main theme and to be honest, the romance that was there was a pretty weak。 I expected witty banter and got dragged into spycraft and political intrigue instead。 Well-written political intrigue, but I digress。 Without spoiling to much, I think the more apt title for this would be "Queen of shadows" or "the Shadow court"。 。。。more

DNF at page 312。 I almost finished it。 I almost did but I couldn’t waste anymore of my time doing it。 I tried to like it。 I really did。 But I have to be honest with myself, I didn’t enjoy this book at alllllll。I mostly read this book because of all the Cardan hype。 I’m shameless, I know。 I also read it for the romance, which is a sub plot in this book。 A very tiny subplot。 This is not an enemies to lovers book。 I’m sure if you like court intrigue & politics & a character thirsty for power, you’l DNF at page 312。 I almost finished it。 I almost did but I couldn’t waste anymore of my time doing it。 I tried to like it。 I really did。 But I have to be honest with myself, I didn’t enjoy this book at alllllll。I mostly read this book because of all the Cardan hype。 I’m shameless, I know。 I also read it for the romance, which is a sub plot in this book。 A very tiny subplot。 This is not an enemies to lovers book。 I’m sure if you like court intrigue & politics & a character thirsty for power, you’ll love this book。 For me one of the problems was the lack of build up between Cardan and Jude。 Cardan is not even in the majority of the book except for the times he’s bullying Jude then suddenly at the end she kidnaps him and later they kiss。 Boy, I’m sorry that kiss was soooo nasty。 Please don’t hate me, it was just so awkward and I got second hand embarrassment reading that。 🌚Another thing, I like books I can enjoy。 I like characters I can relate with and I like couples I can root for。 I do not relate with Jude whatsoever。 She’s not likable。 Her thirst for power is annoying。Neither is Cardan。 And their relationship was awful。 Am I supposed to think “hating” each other is romantic? Because it isn’t。Jude and Cardan were so bland and soulless and I couldn’t care less about them。 Overall this whole book is soulless。 Where’s the heart in it? Where’s the passion? Where’s the adventure??? I don’t get the hype over Cardan either? He seems like a side character to me。 Well he is one, I suppose but, he literally is just cardboard mostly。 He is just there to be Judes love interest and her bully。 Lol。 I also don’t like how weak he is。 Cardan is a spineless noodle。 Gross。 He is not romantic and swoon worthy。 I know a lot of people like him but I couldn’t bring myself too。 Also everyone says the ending is amazing and the second half of the book is better but I don’t see it。 I’m almost to the end and I still don’t like it。 I won’t be finishing this series。I rate it two stars because the writing is pretty good and has a nice flow and that’s about the only good thing with this book lol。Overall, this book made me feel like I was wasting my time。 I didn’t have fun reading it, And I didn’t enjoy myself at all while doing so。 。。。more
