Summary

ACE #1

She flees on her wedding day。

She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor’s secret collection。

She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father。

She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan。

The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can’t abide。 Like having to marry someone she’s never met to secure a political alliance。

Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia escapes to a distant village on the morning of her wedding。 She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her。 Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love。

basically i picked this book up thinking that it would be a wonderful fantasy book that would be very interesting。 i was wrong。 the premise is what that intrigues me, and many other people out there i guess。 but other than that, there’s nothing exciting or thrilling。 1。 this book didn’t feel like a fantasy where is the world building and all those stuff? okay even if there wasn’t any, it didn’t feel like a fantasy world to me at all。 2。 liaidk what’s wrong but she just runs off with pauline at t basically i picked this book up thinking that it would be a wonderful fantasy book that would be very interesting。 i was wrong。 the premise is what that intrigues me, and many other people out there i guess。 but other than that, there’s nothing exciting or thrilling。 1。 this book didn’t feel like a fantasy where is the world building and all those stuff? okay even if there wasn’t any, it didn’t feel like a fantasy world to me at all。 2。 liaidk what’s wrong but she just runs off with pauline at the start which shocked me because yeah it was weird。 pauline would just follow her everywhere and sacrifice everything for idk what purpose。 we see most of the time lia working as a maid and under disguise。 3。 writing style it wasn’t bad but maybe because the author wanted to hide who was the assassin and the prince so that’s why it was weird to read at the first half。 but i expected a thrilling plot where we don’t get to know who is who until the very end and i was wrong once more。 4。 the plot where is the plot? idk where is it。 it was uneventful and very less happened。 sometimes just a lot of info was dumped into my head and i had no interest at all。 5。 the love triangle i wasn’t connected to any of the love interests and i just didn’t like both of them as well。 (lia isn’t a good mc either in my opinion) i didn’t see lia doing anything much with the love interests。 the love triangle was weird & idk what will happen next but i don’t think i’ll be reading the sequel。 i don’t often read arranged marriage troupes but i didn’t really like this one。 it felt more dystopian rather than fantasy and i couldn’t feel any magic of the world or anyone in the book。 just not my cup of tea。 period。 。。。more

edit: i realised i may have been a little too generous with the rating HAHAHA 3。5/5! i actually really enjoyed this book!i don’t feel like writing a review though—this book didn’t have a lot happening from 20-60% it was so focused on one part, but the writing was good enough that it didn’t feel necessarily boring。i’m gonna jump onto the next book hoping more happens in it!

This book was really hyped and not so good。 The writing moved too fast and the plot was to slow。 I did however love Lia as a character and what she stands for as a person。 I was expecting a huge plot twist and really, it was just a turn and nothing too exciting。

I’m honestly at a loss of words to describe just how good this was。 Read it。 Just read it。

I've had this book on my TBR for years and I finally listened to the audiobook。 I was wary at first because I haven't had the best luck with older YA Fantasy, but I was pleasantly surprised。 I loved the twist of us not knowing who was the prince and who was the assassin, and then I loved the twist of finally finding out who was who。 I don't know if I'll read the sequel, but this was an enjoyable read。 There's one character I wanted to strangle, but other than that, this was fun and I would recom I've had this book on my TBR for years and I finally listened to the audiobook。 I was wary at first because I haven't had the best luck with older YA Fantasy, but I was pleasantly surprised。 I loved the twist of us not knowing who was the prince and who was the assassin, and then I loved the twist of finally finding out who was who。 I don't know if I'll read the sequel, but this was an enjoyable read。 There's one character I wanted to strangle, but other than that, this was fun and I would recommend it to YA Fantasy fans!Happy reading! 。。。more

I didn't love this book, but I think。 part of that may be my fault。 The opening of the book is very cool in that you are supposed to not know who is the prince and who is the assassin。 I read Dance of Thieves first so I knew who was who, so to me the beginning just seemed long and vague。 I thought the world building and writing were phenomenal。 Those were honestly the only reasons I got through the book。 I also did not like the romance in the series as a whole。 I generally don't like love triang I didn't love this book, but I think。 part of that may be my fault。 The opening of the book is very cool in that you are supposed to not know who is the prince and who is the assassin。 I read Dance of Thieves first so I knew who was who, so to me the beginning just seemed long and vague。 I thought the world building and writing were phenomenal。 Those were honestly the only reasons I got through the book。 I also did not like the romance in the series as a whole。 I generally don't like love triangles unless they are actual triangles, so I didn't love that part。 But I also just didn't like either of the love interests, both of them at one point or another were either abusive, manipulative, controlling, condescending or just outright sexist。 I was utterly disappointed in these books because I read Dance of Thieves first and it is to this day my favorite series of all time。 。。。more

3。5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️Okay so I understand why the reviews are low and why everyone says that nothing happens。 The plot is very slow moving as it’s just a day by day story telling and there are some unnecessary scenes that don’t pertain to the plot of the story。 Characters: Lia, giving her the benefit of the doubt since being a sheltered princess, is immature, unobservant, and naive。 Girl was giving her identity away left and right! I HATED that she was in denial when she was told that she was being hunted down by an assassin WHEN she said herself that her father would send an assassin out for her。 Like girl can you be any more dumb? Also, the adaptation of Rafe and Kaden was a bit underwhelming and confusing。 I didn’t know if they were who I thought they were or if they were just two random characters for majority of the book as their POVs were discreet and not very context driven。 Then when I finally did learn who they were, I still hadn’t felt a connection with them to the MC。 The end did get better though and I’m hopeful that the development of the storyline in the next book won’t be so disappointing。 。。。more

I received a free copy from NetGalley。 Not wanting to enter an arranged marriage, the princess runs away with her maid。 Now the prince and an assassin have both found her and she's flirting with both。 The story is okay, I'm not rushing to go get the second book, but if this is a type of novel you often read, I think you will like this one。 I received a free copy from NetGalley。 Not wanting to enter an arranged marriage, the princess runs away with her maid。 Now the prince and an assassin have both found her and she's flirting with both。 The story is okay, I'm not rushing to go get the second book, but if this is a type of novel you often read, I think you will like this one。 。。。more

In the farthest corner。。。 I'll find you。 Oh, one of the most angsty love triangles I have read in recent times! The Kiss of Deception is a story of a runaway princess, an assassin out to kill her and a prince set to bring back his runaway bride。 But things don't always go as planned, do they? Really, it is not that hard。 I really love the magical aspect of the plot, about the Gods, the Devastation, the Gift, the history。 I know there is still much to uncover, so I am super excited about what awaits me in the next book。 I really love the characterization Princess Arabella, who is everything we could expect from a high-fantasy series protagonist。 If you are a fan of high fantasy-romance, and want to read about prophesized protagonists, heart-wrenching love triangles and a cleverly-built universe with a tragic and mysterious history, this one is surely for you! 。。。more

My wonderful friend hyped this up so much that I just had to read it, but urgh, what a letdown。Sorry Maija! Don't get me wrong, The Kiss of Deception isn't a bad book。 Actually, for a ya fantasy, there was a nice uniqueness to the way it's written, and I loved the way the author was able to keep the true identities of the prince and the assassin hidden。 Really well done。 Respect。But apart from that, I was bored。 Nothing much happened until the end, and even then, it wasn't enough to draw me in b My wonderful friend hyped this up so much that I just had to read it, but urgh, what a letdown。Sorry Maija!
