Summary

Discover a beautifully illustrated steampunk world of airships, monsters, and one courageous but haunted heroine。。。

The tabloids dubbed her "Lady Mechanika," the sole survivor of a mad scientist's horrific experiments which left her with mechanical limbs。 Having no memory of her captivity or her former life, Lady Mechanika eventually built a new life for herself as an adventurer and private investigator, using her unique abilities to solve cases the proper authorities couldn't or wouldn't handle。 But she never stopped searching for the answers to her own past。

Set in a fictionalized steampunk Victorian England, a time when magic and superstition clashed with new scientific discoveries and inventions, Lady Mechanika chronicles a young woman's obsessive search for her identity as she investigates other mysteries involving science and the supernatural。

This volume collects the entire first Lady Mechanika mini-series The Mystery of the Mechanical Corpse, including its prequel chapter The Demon of Satan's Alley, plus a complete cover art gallery。

The world was quite interesting, wot with the whole steampunk thing。 The art was good and the story was intriguing。 My one gripe is that it sometimes was a bit too much text。 Like, on some pages it was just ridiculous how much there was。3。5/5 stars

The artwork is mostly stunning。 Would have preferred the emphasis on the mechnical limbs, less on the Lady part ;)In general I love the time period and the dialogue, but in this case there was to much talking and written information。 This kept me from enjoying the artwork since there was just to much distraction on the page。 The characters felt a bit stereotypical。All in all I am intrigued but not yet convinced that this will be for me。

Just pleasure to read and enjoy the art!

Fun enough。 Great if you like steampunk and pork boobs。 I liked the art and the story has a very Sherlock Holmes atmosphere。 But it’s not something I’m probably going to keep up with。

Lady Mechanika, by Joe Benitez, is the story of a world of steampunk, featuring a mechanical lady as the main character。 I enjoyed this graphic novel because I really enjoyed the art style which is very detailed and very centered on the steampunk theme。 As far as the story I found it to keep my attention and it kept me on the edge of my seat, but always answered my questions。 I love stories that hook me with mysteries and Lady Mechanika did just that。 I can wait to read part 2。

Worth buying for the art alone, but the story's also pretty good。 It's an intriguing mystery regarding Lady Mechanika's origins and I'm interested to see where it goes。 The chapters are also pretty meaty so you're definitely getting your moneys worth with this。 Worth buying for the art alone, but the story's also pretty good。 It's an intriguing mystery regarding Lady Mechanika's origins and I'm interested to see where it goes。 The chapters are also pretty meaty so you're definitely getting your moneys worth with this。 。。。more

The first book I tried of the series we lent from the library。 It starts difficult in the middle of a story。The drawings are beautiful but it is difficult to grasp what exactly is the context。

ExcellentAn adult graphic novel in the best sense, line work and colour are brilliant but the story itself is engrossing, and quite sad I suppose。

Tw/cw : lots of uses of the g-slurThe drawings are the basic malz gaze and you get a full body shot of the MC on every pages (it get repetitive。。。)I like steampunk and there were some good ideas but overall just meh (and the g-slur being used all the time during the second half was just too much) 。

Hard to find a good steampunk anything really! Another I was introduced to by my girlfriend。 And I absolutely love it! Even have bookmarkers from this series!Very tasteful and well written。 Excellent character development as well as storyline within the realm of steampunk。 A true heroine that is written outside of the norm of how a lot of female characters tend to be written。 I feel like this is more authentic and not forced as opposed to some。I am looking forward to reading more of this series!

Alyssa

Goes to the superhero comics school of dressing and posing its female characters in ways that are laughably impractical, but features great art and interesting worldbuilding。 Will be reading on。

SPOILER ALERT, MAYBEIt is nice to finally have a story with a female lead that does not revolve around their sexuality, love interest, or ultimate need to be rescued by a male。 Lady Mechanika stands on her own two feet。 She is intelligent, resourceful, and entirely capable of kicking a lot of butt。Really, my only real criticism is that there is too many word balloons drawing attention away from the beautifully depicted steampunkish world created by the author。

Not sure how to rate this one。 I liked it a lot as a fun steampunky action comic, but there was a questionable plotline surrounding a Romani circus —quite a few characters used the g-slur when referring to the Romani characters。 The story is set in the past (-an alternate past) so I guess some might say it’s more ‘authentic,’ but if Lady Mechanika herself always used the term Romani, surely the other characters could as well。 There’s something to be said as well about stereotyping the Romani int Not sure how to rate this one。 I liked it a lot as a fun steampunky action comic, but there was a questionable plotline surrounding a Romani circus —quite a few characters used the g-slur when referring to the Romani characters。 The story is set in the past (-an alternate past) so I guess some might say it’s more ‘authentic,’ but if Lady Mechanika herself always used the term Romani, surely the other characters could as well。 There’s something to be said as well about stereotyping the Romani into the traveling sideshow thing。 The overall characterization of the Romani characters did seem neutral to positive, but again, seemed heavily stereotyped。 I’m not Romani and don’t know enough to properly evaluate these elements (I also don’t know the background of the author), but they stuck out to me and made me uncomfortable, so I feel they’re worth noting for other readers。 。。。more
