Summary

Seven days to fall in love, fifteen years to forget, and seven days to get it all back again…

Eva Mercy is a single mother and bestselling erotica writer who is feeling pressed from all sides。 Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning novelist, who, to everyone’s surprise, shows up unexpectedly in New York。

When Shane and Eva meet at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but also the eyebrows of the Black literati。 What no one knows is that fifteen years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love。 While they may be pretending not to know each other, they can’t deny their chemistry – or the fact that they’ve been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years。

Over the next seven days, amidst a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect – but Eva’s wary of the man who broke her heart, and wants him out of the city so her life can return to normal。 Before Shane disappears though, she needs a few questions answered 。 。 。

With its keen observations of creative life in America today, as well as the joys and complications of being a mother and a daughter, Seven Days in June is a hilarious, romantic, and sexy-as-hell story of two writers discovering their second chance at love。

I don’t know how to review this one! Epic love story, funny dialogue, alcoholism, cutting, chronic pain…so much going on but it works and I felt sad for these characters as kids! Solid read but it’s nit the traditional meet-cute because beneath the love is a lot of damage。

This book scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had。 Loved the glimpse into black literati, even if it’s fictional。 The characters were dynamic, particularly Audre, and usually precocious children annoy me greatly。 The way the author dealt with chronic pain seemed somewhat realistic。 There were more than a few humorous moments and the dialogue was wonderful。 Trigger warnings for trauma, addiction, abuse, self-harm。 This wasn’t just a rom-com, it delves into some serious issues。 Even with those This book scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had。 Loved the glimpse into black literati, even if it’s fictional。 The characters were dynamic, particularly Audre, and usually precocious children annoy me greatly。 The way the author dealt with chronic pain seemed somewhat realistic。 There were more than a few humorous moments and the dialogue was wonderful。 Trigger warnings for trauma, addiction, abuse, self-harm。 This wasn’t just a rom-com, it delves into some serious issues。 Even with those serious issues, the conflict keeping them apart wasn’t much。 The stakes didn’t seem that high。 This was just a great moment for a romance with some bite to it。 A great option if you want more black excellence and diversity in your summer reading。 It’s very absorbing。 。。。more

It felt very gratuitous。 And the idea that he couldn’t have just texted her that he would miss brunch - sorry, no。 That plot point might have worked in 1980。 Buts it’s 2021。 Who is not staring at their phone in line at the airport。 。。。more

3。5/5This book was cool。 It was interesting and the writing style was good。 However, I didn't like how it spoke of self-harm。 I also really hated all the pop-culture references。 All in all though, I think it was a fun read。 3。5/5This book was cool。 It was interesting and the writing style was good。 However, I didn't like how it spoke of self-harm。 I also really hated all the pop-culture references。 All in all though, I think it was a fun read。 。。。more

I heard so many good things。 I just can't read or listen to one more book with racism and life being unfair。 If you're not of color what exactly can you blame it on。 Tgw live story may be good but I couldn't take it any more。 I heard so many good things。 I just can't read or listen to one more book with racism and life being unfair。 If you're not of color what exactly can you blame it on。 Tgw live story may be good but I couldn't take it any more。 。。。more

If it was up to me, I will not categorise this as a romance novel。 Yes the story revolves around the two leading characters who happened to be romantically involved but this book is so much more than just romance。 This book has layers。 An easy read which deals with so many topics effortlessly。 Loved it。

Well written book, but I am just not a love story reader。

Hot take! Also some minor spoilers: I was so excited that Ms。 Reese finally picked another romance for the June book club pick! BUT this was definitely not the “steamy summer romance” it was advertised as by both Reese and the publisher。 Most of the book centers on the really intense traumas both main characters suffered as children and how they’ve coped with those traumas as an adult。 Also as far as “steam”, it had two sex scenes that were both barely a page long。 Y’all catfished me!Even if the Hot take! A moving story about a second chance at love。 This book follows a week between two former loves who spent a week together in their youth。 Pros: - flawed main characters - not isolated - their lives keep moving in a realistic manner when they are reunited - focus on breaking generational pain - representation of invisible disabilities Cons- serious mental health issues which are not really addressed outside of the affect on the romance - both individuals clearly have their own issues not truly be A moving story about a second chance at love。 This book follows a week between two former loves who spent a week together in their youth。 Pros: - flawed main characters - not isolated - their lives keep moving in a realistic manner when they are reunited - focus on breaking generational pain - representation of invisible disabilities Cons- serious mental health issues which are not really addressed outside of the affect on the romance - both individuals clearly have their own issues not truly being addressed I absolutely loved this one 。。。more

I liked where the author was trying to go。 I did like Eva and her daughter captured every scene she was in。 But felt no real connection to Shane or anyone else。 The writing seemed amateur, and obviously very liberal。 Putting politics in romance novels and insinuating all republicans are racist was off putting。 Nothing about it felt authentic。 It all felt like the writer was trying way too hard。 I felt like I was just reading words and I had to force myself to finish it since I spent money on it。 I liked where the author was trying to go。 I did like Eva and her daughter captured every scene she was in。 But felt no real connection to Shane or anyone else。 The writing seemed amateur, and obviously very liberal。 Putting politics in romance novels and insinuating all republicans are racist was off putting。 Nothing about it felt authentic。 It all felt like the writer was trying way too hard。 I felt like I was just reading words and I had to force myself to finish it since I spent money on it。 With that said, I do think she hit the nail on the head with the self-harm depictions, for the most part。 A decent story and I appreciate what the author was trying to do, but the writing and politics was really off putting for me。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 I really did enjoy how the book was written and I loved all the quirks of each of the characters- especially representation of unseen disabilities and the praise of black voices and writers。 The overall storyline just wasn’t that interesting to me。 I’m not sure if it all just seemed predictable or hard for me to process what was truly holding them back from being together。 I think I was just expecting a tad more from that。 I really wanted to hear more about her family members stories 3。5 stars。 I really did enjoy how the book was written and I loved all the quirks of each of the characters- especially representation of unseen disabilities and the praise of black voices and writers。 The overall storyline just wasn’t that interesting to me。 I’m not sure if it all just seemed predictable or hard for me to process what was truly holding them back from being together。 I think I was just expecting a tad more from that。 I really wanted to hear more about her family members stories though! I started reading the ebook for this, but as soon as Audre appeared I knew I had to run out and get a physical copy of this。 I loved this book so much and I cannot wait to re-read at some point this year。 It was just such a great book and I enjoyed every single page of it。 I never wanted to finish that, when I caught myself flying through it, I would stop myself and walk away。 I took it to an appointment and almost missed my turn because I was so into it。 I just loved it so much I cannot adequat I started reading the ebook for this, but as soon as Audre appeared I knew I had to run out and get a physical copy of this。 I loved this book so much and I cannot wait to re-read at some point this year。 It was just such a great book and I enjoyed every single page of it。 I never wanted to finish that, when I caught myself flying through it, I would stop myself and walk away。 I took it to an appointment and almost missed my turn because I was so into it。 I just loved it so much I cannot adequately explain。 。。。more

In Tia Williams' latest novel, Seven Days in June, a second chance at their love story gives them everything to gain—and everything to lose。“I remember that I’m not lonely。 I’m alone。 When I’m comatose from writing and mothering, when I’m hurting too badly to cook, talk, or smile, I curl up with ‘alone’ like a security blanket…Alone never gets disappointed by me。”Eva is the bestselling author of an erotica series featuring a vampire and a witch。 She’s struggling to finish book 15, dealing wi In Tia Williams' latest novel, Seven Days in June, a second chance at their love story gives them everything to gain—and everything to lose。“I remember that I’m not lonely。 I’m alone。 When I’m comatose from writing and mothering, when I’m hurting too badly to cook, talk, or smile, I curl up with ‘alone’ like a security blanket…Alone never gets disappointed by me。”Eva is the bestselling author of an erotica series featuring a vampire and a witch。 She’s struggling to finish book 15, dealing with chronic pain, which is a disability she’s lived with her whole life, and she's trying to be the best single mom to her precocious preteen daughter。 She doesn’t feel she’s succeeding anywhere。When prizewinning author Shane Hall shows up at a literary panel where Eva is speaking and begins waxing poetic about her work, it sets the Black literary community afire。 But what no one other than Shane and Eva know is that 15 years ago they fell madly in love over the period of a week, only to have everything fall apart。 The fact is, each has been using the other as inspiration for their work since then。Shane’s return throws Eva’s life into upheaval。 Their chemistry is still undeniable and the thought of letting each other go again is something neither wants to consider。 But Eva is not sure she wants to leave herself vulnerable again, not sure if she can take the risks he could bring to her life and her daughter’s。Over the course of seven days, they try to decide whether to let themselves fall again and what that vulnerability will mean。 At the same time, the story looks back on the first seven days they spent together all those years before, and how indelibly it changed them。Boy, this was so fantastic。 It was poetic and steamy and beautiful and sad, really just amazing。 Shane and Eva are such complex characters and their story hooked me from start to finish。 I didn't want this to end!Check out my list of the best books I read in 2020 at https://itseithersadnessoreuphoria。blogspot。com/2021/01/the-best-books-i-read-in-2020。html。 See all of my reviews at itseithersadnessoreuphoria。blogspot。com。Follow me on Instagram at https://www。instagram。com/the。bookishworld。of。yrralh/。 。。。more

I had intended on passing on this book despite it being Reese's pick。 I am not a romance fan and I've made no secret about that。 But then I heard someone say that it wasn't that much of a romance and that the romance was overshadowed by everything else going on in the book。 Well, in some ways that was true。 And I really loved those portions! As someone who suffers migraines I enjoyed that aspect of the story as I’ve not read other books that address it but it was hard for me to get through this book。 It’s not very well written and the constant gratuitous foul language, smutty sex scenes and pop culture references spoiled it for me。 There were many many cringe worthy lines。

This book was AMAZING。 I felt so seen as a Black Woman who loves sci-fi, has a complicated with relationship with a parent AND is suuuuper nosy。 I appreciated that the story was about learning how to chose yourself and realizing that nothing being perfect is what makes life beautiful。 I am obsessed with Audre and wish I was like her at 12 and have a 12 year old daughter and/or niece like her。

I couldn’t possibly write a review to describe my experience in reading this book。 Wow。 Just wow。 I attended an author event where she said it was her dad who came up with the name。 And it was exciting to hear that she heard 60 days in advance that she was the June pick for Reese’s bookclub。 I love this sentence from the book: “Maybe we work better as a flashback。 You know, meet once every fifteen years, for seven days in June。”Sigh, sigh。
