4。5 starsAnother great volume in this series! While I totally admit, I didn't really like chapter 28 because the first time I read it I didn't quite get how it was related to the overall story(?)。 Maybe it was just Anya still attempting to be Desmond's friend? But when I went back and did a skim of the chapter it wasn't as "odd" the second time around。 However, it's probably been my least favorite chapter out of the series so far and why I didn't give a full five stars。My favorite chapters by far 4。5 starsAnother great volume in this series! While I totally admit, I didn't really like chapter 28 because the first time I read it I didn't quite get how it was related to the overall story(?)。 Maybe it was just Anya still attempting to be Desmond's friend? But when I went back and did a skim of the chapter it wasn't as "odd" the second time around。 However, it's probably been my least favorite chapter out of the series so far and why I didn't give a full five stars。My favorite chapters by far are our fake family acting and starting to BE like a real family。 This one had SO many good ones, including the opening chapter! Yor is such an amazing character and absolutely love her! She honestly is the perfect wife for Loid/Twilight which leads me to say…I am 100% NOT down for anyone trying to interfere with one of my favorite fams, BUT! Because I love this series and this family so much, I am willing to go along the lines of we-have-an-interloper-trying-to-break-the-peace-just-so-said-family-can-see-how-much-they-care-for-and-love-each-other。 I feel that it could work, but it doesn't make me super happy about it。 LOL!Yuri is such an interesting character and I think because he plays an almost antagonist-like role, it's usually always fun to see him on page。 He certainly makes things lively! LOL!There were a lot of beautiful moments in this book that made me grin and let out a happy sigh。 While I may not be super happy about a certain new character on the scene, I hope we get more of these genuine family moments (especially between Loid and Anya!)。 <3 Also, that bonus chapter followed by the bonus illustration was hilarious!Hurry up October and bring me volume six!! 。。。more

Midterms are coming, but they’ll be happening on the one day of the month that Anya can’t use her powers。 If she survives that, there’s still a class assignment about Loid’s job to complete。 Elsewhere, Yor tries to work on her cooking and there are more codenames flying around than the brain-fixing machine might be able to handle。First off, huge accolades to the art this time out, which is just on fire。 Spy x Family has always been a great looking book, but the comedic timing here is so good。 On Midterms are coming, but they’ll be happening on the one day of the month that Anya can’t use her powers。 If she survives that, there’s still a class assignment about Loid’s job to complete。 Elsewhere, Yor tries to work on her cooking and there are more codenames flying around than the brain-fixing machine might be able to handle。First off, huge accolades to the art this time out, which is just on fire。 Spy x Family has always been a great looking book, but the comedic timing here is so good。 One of the last panels in the first chapter nearly reduced me to tears。Said first chapter is centred on Yor’s cooking needing an upgrade and while the whole ‘woman cook bad’ trope has been done to death in manga, this goes the extra mile to make it feel fresh。 This is my favourite part of the whole book。Yor’s application of her assassin training only makes things that much worse and when her brother gets involved we see some seriously twisted (and deeply funny) reactions to her food that turn into a running gag I’m ashamed I like so much。Anya is really the star of this volume and that mostly works out, but it definitely feels like the book is sidelining the other characters more than I would like。 The most Yor gets to do besides cook is an extended imaginary sequence where Anya follows her to work, which is, to be fair, very funny。 The part with the blood is one of many classic Anya reactions this book。Loid definitely fares better - his encounter, when he goes to save Anya’s exam, with his literal opposite in Agent Daybreak, is just beat after beat of good jokes and hilarious comparisons between the two。Then we have the chapter where Anya does her report on Loid’s job, which is jam packed with funny stuff and relies heavily on her ability to utterly overestimate her own cunning and inability to pronounce some words properly。 The ending of this one is perfect。What brings this volume down and is kind of a thing in the other books at times is that it almost always goes for the sudden swerve at the end and as a consequence you can start to predict where things are going。 The chapter with the gloomy kid isn’t that great to start with, but once you realize very early on where it’s headed it is a total drag waiting for it to get there。 And make no mistake, Anya’s several pages long reaction to the otherwise obvious Agent Nightfall is what justifies that entire chapter。 The too-serious agent story is going exactly where you think, but Anya’s expressions save the day。 Between her unending variety of emotive faces and tendency for cute costumes (the job chapter, again, is adorable) she really is the heart of the book。 Still, like I said, the other characters do have merit and I’d like it if the story relied on her less。4 stars - a very good, yet certainly imperfect, outing for my favourite shonen series。 Bonus points for the little extra mission at the end, which isn’t amazing, but has Loid weighing in on violent cartoons AND being a total classic literature pedant。 。。。more

Spy × Family, Vol。 5 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next seven chapters (24–30) of the on-going manga series with a bonus chapter。This tankōbon mainly focuses on the school life of Anya Forger as she attempts to get closer to Damian Desmond to help her father with his case – Operation Strix。 However, she is having a terrible time making any connection with him。 She did, however, save him from being expelled from Eden Academy from fellow student George Glooman, wh Spy × Family, Vol。 5 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next seven chapters (24–30) of the on-going manga series with a bonus chapter。This tankōbon mainly focuses on the school life of Anya Forger as she attempts to get closer to Damian Desmond to help her father with his case – Operation Strix。 However, she is having a terrible time making any connection with him。 She did, however, save him from being expelled from Eden Academy from fellow student George Glooman, who overheard and mistakenly thought that they went bankrupt because of the Desmond Family。Apparently, Geroge Glooman had his butler hire a spy – Agent Daybreak to change Damian Desmond’s midterm scores so that he would fail and be expelled as a result。 However, Loid Forger as Agent Twilight was there to set things right and to make sure that his daughter doesn't get expelled or have any demerits。 When that failed, George Glooman took matters into his own hands, but was stopped by Anya Forger。This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo。 For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well。 Fiona Frost as Agent Nightfall is introduced as she is Loid Forger's coworker in both espionage and at Berlint General Hospital, where she works undercover as a clerk。 While generally showing no emotion, she actually holds strong feelings towards Twilight, and thinks that Yor does not deserve him and Anya knows her true nature and is wary of her – thanks to her powers。All in all, Spy × Family, Vol。 5 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more。 。。。more

Another dose of wholesomeness in which Anya learns to study for herself instead of just peeking into minds, gets some more insight into her parents jobs and gets to know her Uncle Yuri。This seems like a transition volume, with a lot of character building。 Damian's family life is explored - and the fact that there is a plot to discredit him and his brother by making them fail in school。 Becky also seems to think Anya's goal of brings friends with Damian is because she has a crush on him and not b Another dose of wholesomeness in which Anya learns to study for herself instead of just peeking into minds, gets some more insight into her parents jobs and gets to know her Uncle Yuri。This seems like a transition volume, with a lot of character building。 Damian's family life is explored - and the fact that there is a plot to discredit him and his brother by making them fail in school。 Becky also seems to think Anya's goal of brings friends with Damian is because she has a crush on him and not because she wants to achieve World Peace。 Which, honestly, points to her for sticking to that goal with tenacity, even if it's a very absurd one。There are also some nice moments with Bond to wrap this whole volume up。 This family gives me cavities with their sweetness!4 🌟 。。。more
