Summary

We've all been there: stuck in a cycle of what-ifs, plagued by indecision, paralyzed by the fear of getting it wrong。 Nobody wants to live a life of constant overthinking, but it doesn't feel like something we can choose to stop doing。 It feels like something we're wired to do, something we just can't escape。 But is it?

Anne Bogel's answer is no。 Not only can you overcome negative thought patterns that are repetitive, unhealthy, and unhelpful, you can replace them with positive thought patterns that will bring more peace, joy, and love into your life。 In Don't Overthink It, you'll find actionable strategies that can make an immediate and lasting difference in how you deal with questions both small--Should I buy these flowers?--and large--What am I doing with my life? More than a book about making good decisions, Don't Overthink It offers you a framework for making choices you'll be comfortable with, using an appropriate amount of energy, freeing you to focus on all the other stuff that matters in life。

Though short, I enjoyed this book and the practical small tips it gave on something that I often do a lot: overthink。

Если Энн когда-нибудь начитает инструкцию к электродрели, я и ее обязательно послушаю。Миленько и местами душеспасительненько (о боже)

I love Anne’s blog, Modern Mrs。 Darcy, but felt this book would have been more appropriate as a series of blog posts。

THE IDEAL SELF-HELP BOOK WHERE YOU INTELLECTUALLY KNOW EVERYTHING IT SAYS BUT IT’S COMFORTING TO REMIND YOURSELF OF IT ANYWAY

So, so good! As a chronic overthinker, I cannot wait to try to put some of this into practice 🙌🏻

I personally loved this, found it very helpful and encouraging, and enjoyed the very straight forward solutions to help combat overthinking。 I definitely need my own copy of this book

3。5 but rounding up。。。I wish she was a bit more prescriptive throughout the book。 Her recommendations were a bit been there, done that; however, there were definitely things I was able to take away from the book, so I think it’s worth a read regardless。

Worthy read for book club at just the right time - one to purchase and reflect upon

This is the second book I’ve read with my friend Imane as part of our mini-book club ♡´・ᴗ・`♡Overall, it was pretty good! I appreciated how the writing style was straightforward and easy to read。 Sometimes self-help books can get really analytical and long-winded but this one got straight to the point so it was simple enough to understand without having to think too much about it。 I recently read Atomic Habits by James Clear and there were a lot of similar suggestions between the two books but th This is the second book I’ve read with my friend Imane as part of our mini-book club ♡´・ᴗ・`♡Overall, it was pretty good! I feel like this book was written for me at the right time。 I’m a classic overthinker。 I’m the kind that will wake up at 3:00 AM and rethink or replay a prior conversation, an event, or a situation I was involved in。 I will stew about a decision that needs to be made。。no matter how small or large that decision is。 I like getting lots of opinions for others and that usually only create more overthinking rather than less。 there are many tips and highlights I took away from reading DON’T OVERTHINK I feel like this book was written for me at the right time。 I’m a classic overthinker。 I’m the kind that will wake up at 3:00 AM and rethink or replay a prior conversation, an event, or a situation I was involved in。 I will stew about a decision that needs to be made。。no matter how small or large that decision is。 I like getting lots of opinions for others and that usually only create more overthinking rather than less。 there are many tips and highlights I took away from reading DON’T OVERTHINK IT。 Even if you don’t feel like you overthink decisions, there are still many takeaways from this book。 either way, it gets you thingking deeper about how to change the process that drives overthingking。 。。。more

Would probably give it a 3。5!Asks thought provoking questions that make you look at your thoughts and how you are spending your life, with a new lens。

Caitlin

Nothing ground breaking but it found me knee deep in contracts and decisions。 What I’ll take away -- yes to experiences- yes to fifteen minutes of scheduled overthinking (with a timer!)- yes to moving to get unstuck

Simple and good book to listen to on audio。 Some of the toolkit Anne provides is useful, some of it is very repetitive and could have used less fluffy examples。 Love that she's also a book worm, though。 Simple and good book to listen to on audio。 Some of the toolkit Anne provides is useful, some of it is very repetitive and could have used less fluffy examples。 Love that she's also a book worm, though。 。。。more

I found the tips in this book to be really helpful and started to use some of them even before I finished reading it。 I thought the questions at the end of each chapter were especially good to get me thinking about how I could apply the concepts to my own life and decisions。 I liked the blend of advice with real-life examples to illustrate the suggestions。

I liked this book!It talks about simple strategies that help in aligning yourself with the big picture。 I fully agree with the author on the point that unfinished items in our thoughts consume energy and the methods described in this book can help in closing the loop which would in turn help in saving the mental space。

Sandra

This book was quick and easy to read。

Masha

I wasn’t a fan。 Create systems, follow rituals, pick something。 Here, you read it。 You are welcome。 Possible that I being to picky but it was a very very basic book。

Maggie

generally unimpressed。 maybe i’m not the target audience, but that’s ok。 maybe it’ll help someone else!

Mendelina

This was a great book with a lot of good advice。 I really enjoyed reading it。

((3。5 stars)) I really enjoyed this book! Quick read, and a lot of great tips to get out of your head and start living the life you want。 I think I got more out of the beginning of the book, and my interest in it waned towards the end, but all in all, a very valuable read。

Megan Royals

I related to this book so strongly!

Tonya Baker

A great book for an enneagram 1 and 9s! She has great recommendations and ways to help over thinkers!

Sam Sam

If you are overthinking about buying this book or not。 Go ahead - buy it and it is worthy。 I found many helpful things from making decision and save my mental energy for the other important things in this life。 She pointed out myriad ways of getting rid of overthinking。 I highly recommend this book。 However there are some part that i was not too much keen on but it did not make me dissapointed when it comes to an end of overthinking habit。

Tanya

I wasn’t sure if I would pick up much interesting advice here but there seems to be useful nuggets that will help with making life more simple by streamlining decisions。 I thought the chapter on splurges was helpful for me personally as well as not saving the good stuff but just using it now because it will bring me joy now。 May be worth looking at in print because Rina least enjoy her style of ending each chapter with questions for set-reflection。

Jennifer

Good reminder on how to centre on what is important and that it’s ok to spurge for joy。Last bit of book seemed to fizzle both times I read it。

Don't Overthink It was not what I thought it would be。 I went in expecting practical tips for how to stop overthinking while you're overthinking - and while it definitely does contain plenty of those, it's much more about how to craft a life that leads to less overthinking in the first place。 Don't Overthink It was not what I thought it would be。 I went in expecting practical tips for how to stop overthinking while you're overthinking - and while it definitely does contain plenty of those, it's much more about how to craft a life that leads to less overthinking in the first place。 。。。more

Enjoyable read with many good ideas。

Mustafa Abdullayev

Nice stories and explanations but there is almost no real actionable insight。 She doesn’t talk about how to stop it rather talks about why we should do it。 Imagine saying a soccer player to play well without giving proper instructions。 But it is bot boring and enjoyable reading。

I picked to finish this book one Friday afternoon when I was palpitating so bad it made me anxious。 I already read the first chapter last year when I had to pick the nominees for Goodreads Choice Awards。 This year, it's one of my entries for the 2021 PopSugar Reading Challenge Prompt: "a book by a blogger or an online celebrity。" I learned new things from this book, so I will surely recommend this to others。 I picked to finish this book one Friday afternoon when I was palpitating so bad it made me anxious。 I already read the first chapter last year when I had to pick the nominees for Goodreads Choice Awards。 This year, it's one of my entries for the 2021 PopSugar Reading Challenge Prompt: "a book by a blogger or an online celebrity。" I learned new things from this book, so I will surely recommend this to others。 。。。more
