Summary

The Mistborn trilogy has become a firm favourite with fantasy fans the world over。 The imagination that Sanderson brought to the series and his skill at marshalling epic storylines and dramatic action, his ability to create vivid characters made him a natural choice to complete Robert Jordan's epic wheel of time sequence。 But with Mistborn, his standalone fantasies and his new series, The Stormlight Archive, Sanderson has shown his bountiful talents in his own fiction。 Now he returns to the series that made his name with a new story set years after the events of Hero of Ages。

In a world recovering only slowly from evil, a world where allomancers wield immense power through their ability to unleash the magic bound up in common metals someone who can burn metals that no-one has burned before can tip the balance。。。

Sanderson has the knack of giving the epic fantasy reader exactly what they want。 This ability has thrown him to the forefront of the genre and the dramatic story within The Alloy of Law shows off this skill to its very best。

I greatly disliked the first set of books in this world。 The characters did not work for me very long, but I finished them for completion sake。A year or so later a family member told me this was better。。。。 and I was like "yeah sure" and forgot about it。 But no, it really is better。 Wish I hadn't drug my feet on this one。 Eager to get to the next in line。 I greatly disliked the first set of books in this world。 The characters did not work for me very long, but I finished them for completion sake。A year or so later a family member told me this was better。。。。 and I was like "yeah sure" and forgot about it。 But no, it really is better。 Wish I hadn't drug my feet on this one。 Eager to get to the next in line。 。。。more

A decent book, it's impressive how Sanderson was able to use the same setting several centuries in the future。I give it 5 stars just for that, as it's really original。 A decent book, it's impressive how Sanderson was able to use the same setting several centuries in the future。I give it 5 stars just for that, as it's really original。 。。。more

Mistborn, but now with guns!

I absolutely loved the start of this series and the banter is awesome。 I really liked the hints to the First Era and to see how the world changed was awesome。 I cannot wait to see where the story goes in the next books。

I loved the Misborn series。 I loved that world so much。 I was sad when it ended。 When I heard a new part is coming that is in the world of Mistborn, I was definitely thrilled。 Though I was sad again hearing that I won't see my old favorite chracters, but hell, it's still the Mistborn world, only 300 years later! I always wanted an aftermath。 I loved the Misborn series。 I loved that world so much。 I was sad when it ended。 When I heard a new part is coming that is in the world of Mistborn, I was definitely thrilled。 Though I was sad again hearing that I won't see my old favorite chracters, but hell, it's still the Mistborn world, only 300 years later! It was different, and not exactly in a bad way。 It was interesting to see what the original trilogy's characters sacrifice bore。 A world, that is progressing。 And the reverence the Gods receive, the way religions orbit around them。 Gods, ie Era 1 characters。And Marsh was in it。 Loved that scene。It's fine。 Expectations were high though。 Hence the 3 stars。 It was different, and not exactly in a bad way。 It was interesting to see what the original trilogy's characters sacrifice bore。 A world, that is progressing。 And the reverence the Gods receive, the way religions orbit around them。 Gods, ie Era 1 characters。And Marsh was in it。 Loved that scene。It's fine。 Expectations were high though。 Hence the 3 stars。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is what I needed after finishing Mistborn Era 1。 It was light, witty, and magical! The small cameos from era 1 help a lot too。 I miss them so much already 😭

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Enjoyable read, went through it in less than a week。 I think it was a good mix of standing on its own from Mistborn Era 1, while also throwing many nods at the original trilogy (some subtle and some much more blatant)。 These nods were part of the highlights of this book because I enjoyed Era 1 so much。 Another thing that was cool to see allowances and feruchemy used in a setting that involved firearms and ammo。 The application of these old familiar powers from Era 1 are fun to read。 Going along Enjoyable read, went through it in less than a week。 I think it was a good mix of standing on its own from Mistborn Era 1, while also throwing many nods at the original trilogy (some subtle and some much more blatant)。 These nods were part of the highlights of this book because I enjoyed Era 1 so much。 Another thing that was cool to see allowances and feruchemy used in a setting that involved firearms and ammo。 The application of these old familiar powers from Era 1 are fun to read。 Going along with that, it's cool to read a book without any Mistborn characters, people who specialize in their particular forms of allomancy and feruchamy, rather than having the whole array available to them。 Also the new metals we get to see put to use are also a plus。 The plot, and the mystery behind it, were captivating enough。 But the characters I found kinda boring。 It's understandable because it's such a shorter book than the original 3, so they don't have as much time to flesh themselves out。 Wax especially is under expressed, especially considering he's the protagonist。 Wayne and Marasi aren't much better, although I love Wayne's sense of humor。 He says things with the same snark and wit that I say to bother my wife, and it's great。 Its cool to see Sanderson be able to write that kind of sarcasm and whit in a character after not seeing it at all in Era 1。 It's a nice surprise。 The Villian is also sort of shallow, and his motive for his scheming does not really match up with the authenticity of other villains。 The book ended on a great cliffhanger。 Actually, TWO great cliffhangers。 I am looking forward to continuing the series, anticipating the characters gaining more depth as it goes on。 。。。more

Wax is as decent a hero as one could hope for。 Wayne is possibly the best character Sanderson has ever penned。

Wes Barton

Not quite as good as the first era trilogy, but still a great read。 Loved the chemistry between Wax and Wayne and keen to see where the story goes next!

Nate

Interesting Start to Era 2Pretty good book! Great combination of wild-west and continuation of the Mistborn mystique。 Definitely looking forward to continuing this series。 Plenty of cliffhangers and seeds planted。

Seems overly coincidental that Scaldrial should develop technologically in exactly the same way that Earth did, leading to a setting that's pretty much exactly "the late 1800s, but with Allomancy/Feruchemy"。 Also, I find the pun of "Wax and Wayne" to be annoying and completely unnecessary。 But anyway, this story was so much fun that I can't really take any points off for either of those things。 Seems overly coincidental that Scaldrial should develop technologically in exactly the same way that Earth did, leading to a setting that's pretty much exactly "the late 1800s, but with Allomancy/Feruchemy"。 Also, I find the pun of "Wax and Wayne" to be annoying and completely unnecessary。 But anyway, this story was so much fun that I can't really take any points off for either of those things。 。。。more

fun to read, with a number of good scenes。 Very short, though it was only after I read it that I realized it was supposed to be its own standalone novel before it became part of the era2 series。

Good but missed the early charactersThe whole tone of the book has changed between 3 and 4, with Wax in the lead now。 He's interesting but we need a Vin type character too。 Worth reading。 Good but missed the early charactersThe whole tone of the book has changed between 3 and 4, with Wax in the lead now。 He's interesting but we need a Vin type character too。 Worth reading。 。。。more

I loved the characters, I loved their interactions, I loved the magic, I loved being back in the Mistborn world。It's an easy read with epic fights, hilarious humour and a cool steampunk atmosphere。 I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series though, because the story itself felt ok at best。 Most plot twists I saw coming way before and the book is a lot less complex than the Mistborn trilogy。 It's a nice read but I was not amazed。 I loved the characters, I loved their interactions, I loved the magic, I loved being back in the Mistborn world。It's an easy read with epic fights, hilarious humour and a cool steampunk atmosphere。 I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series though, because the story itself felt ok at best。 Most plot twists I saw coming way before and the book is a lot less complex than the Mistborn trilogy。 It's a nice read but I was not amazed。 。。。more

I was super excited to get back into the world of Mistborn and was excited to see how the world would look 300 years after Era 1。I loved seeing all the references to the old series like the city of Elendel, the Origin, the Field of Rebirth etc。 this was super fun。 I wish I had read a quick recap before I went into this as I got a bit confused at times trying to remember some of the details from The Hero of Ages as I read it 6 months ago。I really enjoyed the new characters。 Wax and Marasi I warme I was super excited to get back into the world of Mistborn and was excited to see how the world would look 300 years after Era 1。I loved seeing all the references to the old series like the city of Elendel, the Origin, the Field of Rebirth etc。 this was super fun。 I wish I had read a quick recap before I went into this as I got a bit confused at times trying to remember some of the details from The Hero of Ages as I read it 6 months ago。I really enjoyed the new characters。 Wax and Marasi I warmed too immediately。 It took me a bit of time to warm to Wayne which surprised me as I normally love characters like Wayne。 But I ended up getting really invested in their journey by the end of the novel。I loved the new powers like the time bubbles! It was super fun to see all the new developments that the world has created, like the discovery of new metals! It opens up the magic system a bit more and I love the idea of a twinborn。The plot was a really good starting off point and I'm excited to see where it goes in future books。 。。。more
