Summary

The official art book for Hideo Kojima's DEATH STRANDING

After the collapse of civilization, Sam Bridges must journey across a ravaged landscape crawling with otherworldly threats to save mankind from the brink of extinction。 From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience for the PlayStation(R)4 system。 In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the planet, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding。 With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and the planet on the verge of a mass extinction, it's up to Sam Bridges to journey across the ravaged continent and save mankind from impending annihilation。

The Art of Death Stranding is packed with hundreds of pieces of concept art for the characters, equipment, locations and creatures featured in the game, as well as early and unused concepts, including artwork by acclaimed artist Yoji Shinkawa。

Great art, though I prefer a little more behind the scenes commentary in art books like these。

Such a gorgeous book!

This is not a book for only lovers of the game, but anyone who loves video game storytelling and concept art!

Amazing。 Loved a chance to look at the concept art。 The game and this book are gorgeous!

One of my favourite video game art books。 Really high quality artwork and cool descriptions and insights

good stuff

Very lovely art book for a very complex game。 However, I’d been hoping for a lot more substance on the characters。 Most of the book concerns background design (which is extremely detailed and impressive), but not a lot on how the characters were rendered etc。

Beautiful works, well done book and great price。 Recommended to concept artists and fans for the game。 👶

Not quite as detailed as I would've liked, but nevertheless a very extensive collection of used and unused concept artwork, with the occasional bit of illustrative commentary。 (Some of it quite fun - do I detect frustration in the couple of terse remarks about difficulty keeping the monster designs grounded and plausible?) The huge format is put to good use with spreads of the larger conceptual pieces towards the end。 It puts the game in context nicely, helping clarify what they were originally shooting for in some of the more obscure or scaled-back moments, and Shinkawa's mechanical drawings with all their reasoned-out technical details are, as usual, fun to pore over。My one frustration is that the artists aren't named for the various drawings。 You can recognise Shinkawa's art a mile away but I'm not familiar enough with the others to identify their work。 。。。more
