Summary

At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys。 At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate; this far from civilization the boys can do anything they want。 Anything。 They attempt to forge their own society, failing, however, in the face of terror, sin and evil。 And as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far from reality as the hope of being rescued。 Labeled a parable, an allegory, a myth, a morality tale, a parody, a political treatise, even a vision of the apocalypse, Lord of the Flies is perhaps our most memorable tale about “the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart。”

It starts off as a rather "slow", easy reading and takes a sudden twist in the second half, making it impossible for one to put down and leaving them speechless, shaking their head and not being able to stop thinking about the book and its message。 I can already tell the story of this book will resonate with me for a long time。 It starts off as a rather "slow", easy reading and takes a sudden twist in the second half, making it impossible for one to put down and leaving them speechless, shaking their head and not being able to stop thinking about the book and its message。 I can already tell the story of this book will resonate with me for a long time。 。。。more

Was very exited to read this book after seeing it be referenced in many other stories and books。 The prologue by Stephen King increased my anticipation about it, but。。。。 even though I found that the learnings and meanings of the book are great and relevant regardless time and place, the writing of the first half out me off many times。 Nevertheless it’s worth the read, and more worth to read it when there is unrest in society and fights over who is chief, even at political leadership level。

I never read this book in high school or middle school and was not familiar with the story before I started reading it。 With that being said, this book led me on an introspective journey as I found myself identifying with the worst traits of some characters and the best traits of others。 This book raises serious questions about ideas that frequently contribute to internal and external conflict, such as altruism, the desire for power, and the need for external validation from others。 Throughout m I never read this book in high school or middle school and was not familiar with the story before I started reading it。 With that being said, this book led me on an introspective journey as I found myself identifying with the worst traits of some characters and the best traits of others。 This book raises serious questions about ideas that frequently contribute to internal and external conflict, such as altruism, the desire for power, and the need for external validation from others。 Throughout my reading of this book, I found myself reflecting on my interactions with others。 To be honest, I think I'm still working through a lot of the emotions this book provoked for me。 Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it。 。。。more

It is one of the books that needs to be read slowly。 You should kinda live every moment of it to truly feel the horror and crash of humanity。

(These kids are gonna need so much therapy。)Honestly, Simon and Ralph are the only characters I liked (which isn't a critique because this book is not about。。。 "likable" characters)。 Roger is a straight up psychopath, and Jack was just "interesting"。I don't know what else to really say。 I was looking at some interpretations, since this is a classic and you should be looking at notes to avoid looking stupid, but it wasn't really interesting to me。 Look, I don't know why "Romeo and Juliet"'s whole family dynamic is more alluring to me than a commentary on what binds us to our humanity (I think that's how I would summarize the book's meaning)。I was more drawn with the whole mob-mentality of the "savages", and the easy way they got brainwashed by Jack, who I'm guessing represents the savagery that letting go of society's “rules” leads to。 Ralph was also really good because he's just desperately trying to stay civilized and sane for the sake of it all (probably why he's the first to greet the adult)。 Simon, I've read people say, represents the balance between the two - in that he can see the beauty of nature and wildness but he stays civilized because he's a genuinely good person, instead of society restricting him。Is the author trying to say that the majority of people act "civilized" because of the unwritten rules of society?Maybe。Is he trying to point out that most people are evil (and will act as such, either when given the chance or through "coercion")?Perhaps。Or is he just trying to make fun of "The Coral Island" because he knew that children sucked and couldn't take care of themselves?Probably。I probably agree with the first two but my brain is tired because it's 4 a。m。 so let's hope I got all my thoughts down。 。。。more

A classic。I never truly read this before。 I was aware of the story, having followed it during high school English。 This was great。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 3。75 ⭐️ classic story。 i enjoyed some of the writing and the deaths hurt。 but something was off。。。i felt like we didn’t get enough time to bond with the characters。 for example, poor simon only got 3 paragraphs before he was off-ed。 ending was too quick, too。 would be so cool to see this rewritten (and done better)

This book bored me to death, like sorry not sorry。 I never connected with any of the characters, and I didn't care about them or their circumstances at all。 Even though Golding's writing is amazing, and his bible references are just genius, and the SYMBOLISM is just fantastic, it's the characterization that really ruined it for me。 This book bored me to death, like sorry not sorry。 I never connected with any of the characters, and I didn't care about them or their circumstances at all。 Even though Golding's writing is amazing, and his bible references are just genius, and the SYMBOLISM is just fantastic, it's the characterization that really ruined it for me。 。。。more

I would've rated this higher if I didn't have to analyze every single fucking line of this book for school but whatever。 But this quote was great: "He lost himself in a maze of thoughts that were rendered vague by his lack of words to express them。" I would've rated this higher if I didn't have to analyze every single fucking line of this book for school but whatever。 But this quote was great: "He lost himself in a maze of thoughts that were rendered vague by his lack of words to express them。" 。。。more

i'm not too sure what my rating would be for this book out of two reasons: 1) it's a classic; everybody knows including myself that classics are meant to be analysed deeply for the full experience。 only then by getting the full experience are you eligible to give a proper rating and review, right? well, i didn't。 the only form of analysis or extra reading i did was by going through wikipedia, reddit and a handful of english literature sites and doing light skims of any relevant posts。2) i'm horr i'm not too sure what my rating would be for this book out of two reasons: 1) it's a classic; everybody knows including myself that classics are meant to be analysed deeply for the full experience。 only then by getting the full experience are you eligible to give a proper rating and review, right? well, i didn't。 the only form of analysis or extra reading i did was by going through wikipedia, reddit and a handful of english literature sites and doing light skims of any relevant posts。2) i'm horrible at reading classics because it takes me quite a while to fully appreciate the art and beauty of it。 throughout all my years of reading, i've never had a passion for classics and the themes and or language would often be too complex for me to understand and like。 so having to rate and write a review for this incredibly respected classic which has apparently been named as bbc's top 100 influential novels of all time or something along that lines is, uh, stressful。because of this, i shall write my review from an average reader's standpoint of view without any in-depth analysis of the characters, themes and blablabla。 that's more than a day's wage for me。 so here goes。 lord of the flies was a pretty insightful book in terms of it exploring the intrinsic savagery and cruelty that's buried deep within all human beings including harmless, socially-conditioned schoolboys, the use of humanity-relevant themes such as groupthink and individualism and its reveal of the significance of law and order。 the entire novel is all about a group of schoolboys who, after finding themselves alone without any grown-ups (hooray!) on a deserted island, gradually and eventually return to primal savagery。 as the reader, you get to see 3 different prominently characters (jack, ralph and piggy) attempting to lead and shape the group, each with flaws and specialities of their own。 i really love the symbolism that's added within the pages such as the speech made by the lord of the flies to simon, the use of paint by jack merridew and his hunters as a way to 'mask' themselves from their brutality, etc。 if i add more examples, it'll just be spoilers at this point onwards so no lol。 'lord of the flies' is a crazy book, in a good way。 if you find classics difficult to comprehend and appreciate just like me and you're just there like what?, i highly suggest you have a reading guide next to you and that you refer to it only once you're finished with the book。 other classics, sure, if you don't understand it, just give it up and mark it as dnf。 but for this one? read it till the end。it's an excellent classic for everybody。 maybe not for children just yet。。。 。。。more

It wasn't exactly the best book I've read in a while。 There were a lot of unnecessary conversations that bored me。 There were quite a few moments of suspense that revived my interest in the story however。 The ending I didn't expect, but the events that led to it I did。 I don't know, overall I have mixed feelings about Lord of the Flies。 It's not good, but it's not bad。 It's quite average。 It wasn't exactly the best book I've read in a while。 There were a lot of unnecessary conversations that bored me。 There were quite a few moments of suspense that revived my interest in the story however。 The ending I didn't expect, but the events that led to it I did。 I don't know, overall I have mixed feelings about Lord of the Flies。 It's not good, but it's not bad。 It's quite average。 。。。more
