Excellent storyVhalla， Aldrik， Elecia， Jax， Baldair and the entire cast of characters are absolutely fabulous。 Vhalla was just a common， a library apprentice。 She would never amount to anything， until the dark Prince returned injured and her research and notes saved his life。 The dark Prince discovered what she was and the benefit she would be to the kingdom。 With her， they could win the war。This series caught me off guard。 It was really good。 Parts will make you cry， others will have you jumpin Excellent storyVhalla， Aldrik， Elecia， Jax， Baldair and the entire cast of characters are absolutely fabulous。 Vhalla was just a common， a library apprentice。 She would never amount to anything， until the dark Prince returned injured and her research and notes saved his life。 The dark Prince discovered what she was and the benefit she would be to the kingdom。 With her， they could win the war。This series caught me off guard。 It was really good。 Parts will make you cry， others will have you jumping for joy。 Friends are found and others die。 One darn Prince and one light。 Valley's heart can belong to only one and as the last windwalker， there can be only one。The characters are exciting and original。 The story fascinating。 Truly enjoyed this series。Read on my friends 。。。more

I read this entire series back-to-back so I honestly would not be able to review the books separately， apart from the first one。 Thus this review will mostly focus on my thoughts on the series as a whole。 When I started the first book， I was definitely entertained but not exactly impressed。 Vhalla wasn't the most interesting main character at first and the writing was quite unpolished （I still believe the book could have really done with another round of editing）。 The story was interesting， thou I read this entire series back-to-back so I honestly would not be able to review the books separately， apart from the first one。 Thus this review will mostly focus on my thoughts on the series as a whole。 When I started the first book， I was definitely entertained but not exactly impressed。 Vhalla wasn't the most interesting main character at first and the writing was quite unpolished （I still believe the book could have really done with another round of editing）。 The story was interesting， though， so I was never bored and did not consider abandoning the series （which is saying a lot， I suppose， as I much prefer standalone books to series）。 The simple fact is that the first book in no way， shape， or form prepared me for what the series would later become。 As I read books two and three it was if I could feel the crescendo， the rising tensions and stakes， the plot widening as the same time as it became tighter and more focused。 The writing improved significantly as well， the author quite clearly settling more comfortably into the story she was telling and into the mind of her main character。 If I thought Vhalla was bland at first， the impression did not stick for long — throughout the series her character arc is such a joy to experience， you see with your own eyes how she grows into a woman and deals with all the conflicting shades of her pyche。 She makes mistakes big and small， shoulders guilt that is hers and also guilt that isn't， and reflects at every turn on herself and her actions as she tries to carve a place for herself in the harsh world she has been thrust in。 She cries， she fears， she loves and fights for herself， for her friends， and for the right thing。 I was touched by her inner journey as much as I was intrigued by her outer journey。 Aldrik is layers and layers deep， wonderfully complex and wholly imperfect。 It is no sugarcoated， effortless relationship between him and Vhalla; they wound each other， cut themselves on the other's sharp edges， they break open and break apart; they love deeply and hurt from it。 It is the raw， messy， tender kind of love we recognize outside of fairy tales。The secondary characters did not disappoint， either — I was delighted every time a new character was introduced which I thought would be easy to categorize， but they instead bloomed and surprised me at every turn with their different dimensions。 Elise Kova painted characters that seek to weave a path of light through the darkness while attempting to hold fast to their humanity， and her tale is as beautiful as it is heartbreaking。 I absolutely never expected to think so highly of this series。 While it wasn't perfect， it absolutely is a story that impacts you and makes you feel and think about sacrifice， duty， and love。 。。。more

I am running low on my list fantasy books to read and when I found these I was super excited。 It was a good blend of magic， fighting， and adventure。 The characters do go through development throughout the series。 Additionally， it is nice to see that these characters are not perfect。 They have flaws （even if those flaws pisses me off sometimes）。 The concept of the first book， Air Awakens， was a combination of The Sorcery of Thorns and The Last Airbender。 This changes by books 2-5。The books are go I am running low on my list fantasy books to read and when I found these I was super excited。 It was a good blend of magic， fighting， and adventure。 The characters do go through development throughout the series。 Additionally， it is nice to see that these characters are not perfect。 They have flaws （even if those flaws pisses me off sometimes）。 The concept of the first book， Air Awakens， was a combination of The Sorcery of Thorns and The Last Airbender。 This changes by books 2-5。The books are good， but I do have some criticisms of the 5 part series。 Oh my god some of the characters were insanely infuriating （cough cough Mr。 Emperor）。 Truthfully， though I understand that 4 of novels covered the 4 magics of the world and the fifth was necessary for the finale， this series could’ve been summed up as a trilogy。 The first book was really good because it involved Vhalla discovering her powers and the role she has in the bigger puzzle。 In the second， third， and fourth books， pretty much nothing substantial happens until the final 5 chapters。 In all of these books theres an insane amount of time waiting before the action。 I mean the entire second book is just them marching to war and Vhalla training。 And theres a whole lotta death too。 Seriously why was BALDAIR killed off？？ Throughout all the annoying shit Vhalla or Aldrik said Baldair was seriously the light in the tunnel。 。。。more

A great seriesI really enjoyed this， made better as it was YA series and no prolonged and explicit sex scenes which these days I tend to skip。 There were a couple of parts that seemed longer than needed hence the 4 instead of 5 stars。 Great characters and looking forward to reading the stories of the group and beyond

Very interesting worldI really loved the world building and the magic system in this book series。 What fell flat for me were the interpersonal relationships。 I felt they dragged the story down and distracted from the main arc。 I definitely plan to read the series again and perhaps my review will change as I may not have been in the right mindset while reading this time。 I do recommend this as a series for someone looking for unique magic in a well built and fascinating world。

This box set is a wonderful series that I have read and reread。 The world building is fantastic。 The characters are well rounded。 The plot flows smoothly between the books。 The fantasy theme is strong but the books also have some mystery， drama and political intrigue。 Overall， very well written。
