I was the girl who survived the Nothing Man。
Now I am the woman who is going to catch him。。。

Supermarket security guard Jim Doyle is reading it too, and with each turn of the page his rage grows。 Because Jim was - is - the Nothing Man。

An interesting tale told from both the victim and the killer’s point of view with a twist in the middle。 I enjoy it。

I had wanted to read this book since some time based on the interest it had generated in goodreads。 And it certainly did not disappoint。 The approach is creative and refreshing – focusing on ‘how’, ‘when’, and a little of the ‘why’ of the crime in contrast to the ‘who’。 Eve Black is the sole survivor of an attack on her family – her father, mother and sister die。 This is the last crime in a series and the perpetrator is referred to as ‘The Nothing Man’, as he leaves no traces behind。 Eve has onl I had wanted to read this book since some time based on the interest it had generated in goodreads。 And it certainly did not disappoint。 The approach is creative and refreshing – focusing on ‘how’, ‘when’, and a little of the ‘why’ of the crime in contrast to the ‘who’。 Eve Black is the sole survivor of an attack on her family – her father, mother and sister die。 This is the last crime in a series and the perpetrator is referred to as ‘The Nothing Man’, as he leaves no traces behind。 Eve has only 12 years old at the time, and 20 years later decides to write a book on ‘The Nothing Man’ hoping the process will lead to the person either during the research or later based on people who can provide some leads。 Jim Doyle is ‘The Nothing Man’ and the more he reads the book, the more incensed he becomes。 There is the possibility that the book could lead to him and he has to do something about it。 The book entirely relies on the strength of the imaginative narration & characters, steering clear of the need to create twists and drop hints on who the serial attacker is。 I found myself completely hooked and the story also converges very beautifully at the end。 The book also slips in just the right amount of research regarding serial killers。Very imaginative writing – strongly recommended! 。。。more

Mixed feelings about this one。It's an innovative idea and works reasonably well。The only thing for me was that we know who the protagonist is quite early on, so I didn't feel compelled to read the details of the murders later on in the book。The ending was good and the book is quite easy to read, albeit with graphic detail。 Mixed feelings about this one。It's an innovative idea and works reasonably well。The only thing for me was that we know who the protagonist is quite early on, so I didn't feel compelled to read the details of the murders later on in the book。The ending was good and the book is quite easy to read, albeit with graphic detail。 。。。more

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。。This was an interesting take on a thriller/mystery。 I like that the one point of view was from the witness and the other point of view was from the killer reading the witness’ account。 There was at least one unexpected event in the book that surprised me。 There were a couple things I guessed though。 Lots of details to keep track of, lots of characters too。

Wow。 I loved this book so much。 I haven’t listened to anything on audible in a long time。 And this was a fantastic story to get me back into audiobooks。 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼。This book was so disturbing and so unique in a way to “catch a bad guy” while giving a glimpse into a serial killers mind。 Told from the only survivor of horrible murder and the killer himself。 It was so clever, enticing, suspenseful and gripping。 。I loved how the format was a book within a book。 Jim Doyle also known as The Nothing Man wa Wow。 I loved this book so much。 I haven’t listened to anything on audible in a long time。 And this was a fantastic story to get me back into audiobooks。 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼。This book was so disturbing and so unique in a way to “catch a bad guy” while giving a glimpse into a serial killers mind。 Told from the only survivor of horrible murder and the killer himself。 It was so clever, enticing, suspenseful and gripping。 。I loved how the format was a book within a book。 Jim Doyle also known as The Nothing Man was reading about himself, his crimes and his impact on his one survivor Eve Black。。。。which is bizarre but so brilliant。 This book takes the reader through his disturbing murders all while Eve continues to try and figure out who did this to her family and why。 It’s a true crime book within a thriller and I loved it。 。。。more

This book was so well done! I loved the premise of a book within a book。 This story is told between the Pov of the serial killer "The Nothing Man," and Eve, the author of the book about him and the only survivor of his last attack。 I will not go into too much detail because I don't want to spoil too much。 I will say the pacing and writing was so unique! This was a good concept, but it didn't work well in audio format。 I think I would have liked it better in print。 The book with in a book idea is great, I just often didn't know which book I was "reading" in the audio book。 This was a good concept, but it didn't work well in audio format。 I think I would have liked it better in print。 The book with in a book idea is great, I just often didn't know which book I was "reading" in the audio book。 。。。more

Catherine Ryan Howard is an Irish mystery author who has the ability to use Dublin or Cork or other locations in Ireland as a supporting but critical character。 It’s the feeling, it’s also that her plots are contrary to the hospitality that is part of Ireland。 The story is written from two perspectives: the Hunter and the Hunted。 I’ll let you decide who is who。 It’s also a book within a book which provides context without being obvious - she uses this technique to drive plot and a character into Catherine Ryan Howard is an Irish mystery author who has the ability to use Dublin or Cork or other locations in Ireland as a supporting but critical character。 It’s the feeling, it’s also that her plots are contrary to the hospitality that is part of Ireland。 The story is written from two perspectives: the Hunter and the Hunted。 I’ll let you decide who is who。 It’s also a book within a book which provides context without being obvious - she uses this technique to drive plot and a character into madness。 Again, I’ll let you decide which one。 The main plot alone is fantastic but this story got the ever elusive fifth star from me because of Jim’s wife。 OMG you will so know her when you meet her。 And when you do meet her, you will say, “what are you talking about? She’s boring and simple。”。 Just wait and you’ll understand not to judge a book by its cover (pun intended and when you read it, the book and cover turn of phrase will mean more to you)。 If Ms。 Howard revisits this plot, a story about Jim’s wife would be so riveting。 If you happen across this little review Ms。 Howard, call me。。。I have ideas。Read all of her books。 。。。more

This was a GREAT read until the Lifetime movie ending。 I gave the book 4 stars overall because of its original format (the viewpoint from both killer and victim who has authored a book on his crimes) and some really great storytelling。 I was completely transfixed from the start。 I appreciated that the main character wasn't a heavy drinker as a way to dull the pain of the past。 It seems that most of the suspense books that I have read lately rely on the female character to have a drinking/substan This was a GREAT read until the Lifetime movie ending。 I gave the book 4 stars overall because of its original format (the viewpoint from both killer and victim who has authored a book on his crimes) and some really great storytelling。 I was completely transfixed from the start。 I appreciated that the main character wasn't a heavy drinker as a way to dull the pain of the past。 It seems that most of the suspense books that I have read lately rely on the female character to have a drinking/substance issue。 Maybe it is to create a vulnerability in the character? Whatever the reason, CRH didn't do it here。 She created a character we could care about and allowed us to feel her pain。 She didn't resort to the overused booze crutch that just adds to a life spiraling out of control。*spoiler alerts*My criticisms deal with the end of the book。 The final interaction between Eve and Jim was just ridiculous。 Eve's set up of luring the killer to her home, getting him to answer her questions and then law enforcement would get there in the nick of time was preposterous。 The book was so undeserving of this kind of ending。 The post script was lengthy in order to give MORE unnecessary background on the killer and provide the reader with a happily ever after ending。 The final interaction between Eve and Jim was just ridiculous and infuriating。 Why allow him to be able to put his hands on her? Totally unnecessary。 Remember, he's "aged-out" of raping and serial killing, so why have him fondle her?Even with the cheesy ending, it is still a good read。 。。。more

I don't know how else to explain how good this book is other than to say I got the same adrenaline rush as I did when reading I'll Be Gone in the Dark (which I read pre-GSK arrest)。 The Nothing Man literally grips you from page one and keeps you holding on the entire time and wraps up in such a satisfying, glorifying way that I literally could not put it down for the last 100 or so pages。 Disclaimer: I'm a big believer in 'not every thriller book needs a huge twist ending' so even though you can I don't know how else to explain how good this book is other than to say I got the same adrenaline rush as I did when reading I'll Be Gone in the Dark (which I read pre-GSK arrest)。 The Nothing Man literally grips you from page one and keeps you holding on the entire time and wraps up in such a satisfying, glorifying way that I literally could not put it down for the last 100 or so pages。 Disclaimer: I'm a big believer in 'not every thriller book needs a huge twist ending' so even though you can pretty much catch where they're going with the story, it's still beyond satisfying and shocking enough to leave you with a killer book-hangover。 。。。more

Great concept, not exactly a nice story or topic but if you like this genre, a great read。 Well written, easy to read and compelling reading as you rush through to find out if Eve is going to catch the killer or not。 Recommend。

I really enjoyed this book。 The Nothing Man made me jump when I was startled。 I didn’t like reading it alone in the dark。 Eve and Jim are characters that take you in。 The way the story is told, part like you are reading Eve’s book, alternating with Eve and Jim, was very entertaining。 I had another book to finish for book club but I had a hard time putting this one down。 Highly recommend。

Very well written。 I essentially read it in one sitting which is terrible when there are other things that you should be doing。 The way the book was structured really did justice to the story - I won't go into detail so you'll have to read it yourself to get more details, but I would recommend。 Very well written。 I essentially read it in one sitting which is terrible when there are other things that you should be doing。 The way the book was structured really did justice to the story - I won't go into detail so you'll have to read it yourself to get more details, but I would recommend。 。。。more
