Summary

In Taisho-era Japan, Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted boy who makes a living selling charcoal。 But his peaceful life is shattered when a demon slaughters his entire family。 His little sister Nezuko is the only survivor, but she has been transformed into a demon herself! Tanjiro sets out on a dangerous journey to find a way to return his sister to normal and destroy the demon who ruined his life。

For the first time in over 100 years, the upper ranks of Muzan Kibutsuji’s Twelve Kizuki are not full。 Angered, Muzan dispatches the survivors on another mission。 Elsewhere, Tanjiro journeys to a village of swordsmiths and has to explain how his sword was so badly damaged to Haganezuka, the smith who made it。 While Tanjiro waits for his sword to be repaired, enemies close in…

It is difficult to write a review of Kimetsu No Yaiba with any degree of authority - I have changed my opinion on this series many times, often in the span between two books, have absolutely loved the anime while being decidedly ambivalent about the manga and am still struggling, in a sense to understand the hype surrounding this series。 Demon Slayer is by no means a bad manga, in fact, in my limited experience of Manga, it might actually be very very good, however I find it's narrative unsatisf It is difficult to write a review of Kimetsu No Yaiba with any degree of authority - I have changed my opinion on this series many times, often in the span between two books, have absolutely loved the anime while being decidedly ambivalent about the manga and am still struggling, in a sense to understand the hype surrounding this series。 Demon Slayer is by no means a bad manga, in fact, in my limited experience of Manga, it might actually be very very good, however I find it's narrative unsatisfying and the stakes seem to diminish with each volume。 The standard plot is something like this - Tanjiro trains, unlocks a new power, meets demons who belong to the Kizuki, nearly gets killed in the process of killing them, a few of the Hashira die, and Tanjiro saves the day, either directly or indirectly by unlocking a new power within himself。 Cleanse and repeat。 I was willing to allow this pattern to continue until the Swordmaker's village arc where the entire process of defeating the demon seemed like a depressing rehash of the Entertainment district arc, combined with the odd and stilted characterisation of the Mist Hashira。 This arc leads into a sudden anticlimactic showdown with Kibutsuji himself that had me quite stunned - it really felt like Gotouge was rushing things , but, by this time I gave up the series as a lost cause and decided i wouldn't read any further。 What does act as a counterargument to my dislike of the series is the fact that I finished 10 volumes over a period of 2 days, often reading late into the night and wakin gup groggy and sleep deprived。 It leads me to believe that , like junk food, Demon Slayer is incredibly addicitve but unsatisfying。 I find my head swimming and hurting from reading more than one chapter of Hunter X hunter but the satisfaction I get from patiently following Togashi's masterwork is unmatched - Togashi is obviously the superior mangaka。 While I try not to compare the two series, being a noob to Manga, there is definitely a tendency to do so。 Reading Togashi's work alongside Gotouge has made me aware of the limits of Manga and its capacity for greatness。 I had my first glimpse of the greatness of Manga when I read Urasawa's 20th Century BOys on the recommendation of Good Ok Bad - I never finished the series because editions are hard to come by in India and expensive but it was great - Urasawa is a lot more disciplined than Togashi and actually manages to finish his series。 The difference in the battle between Chrollo and Hisoka and any of the battles in Demon slayer is this - the Nen art actually reveals a lot more about the person's character than is obvious in the beginning。 Chrollo's Nen allows strategic thinking and manipulation of stronger opponents while Hisoka's Nen is devious, to say the least, allowing for last minute reversals of fortune and devastating counterattacks。 Hunter x hunter can never translate well into an anime - it is made for manga while Demon Slayer is actually a much better anime than a manga at all times。 The fights in demon slayer do not obvious character development except for the amazing scene in the Anime with Zenitsu above Natagumo mountain, again, better in the anime and more impactful than the manga。 My final complaint with the Demon Slayer manga as a visual medium is that the art itself is incredibly difficult to follow - the fights seem blurred and indistinct and lack planning - on a panel by panel basis。 This is an incredibly creative story with excellent character work in the earlier volumes but Gotouge needs to do a lot more。 Recommended for - Anyone new to Manga, anyone in love with Supernatural Manga 。。。more

Glad that after three straight volumes of epic proportions we have a little bit of a break。 The great thing about Demon Slayer is even in moments like these the plot still moves and we figure out more about the mysterious Kokushibo (and that scene between you know who and you know who AGH! It was good。) I can’t wait to read Volume 13 as we continue into battle with the next high ranking demon。

Set-up for another arc。 I don't mind slowness, but without Inosuke or Nezuko participating in the slowness, I'm not really interested。 Set-up for another arc。 I don't mind slowness, but without Inosuke or Nezuko participating in the slowness, I'm not really interested。 。。。more

Tomo de transición en el que se confirma lo que todos sabemos: que Tanjiro es un amor y un ser de luz y debemos protegerle。

We get a new arc beginning with Tanjiro getting a power boost! He's journeyed off to reforge or otherwise acquire a new sword, and does some training to earn it。 How does he get stronger? But bad because no Inosuke! But I like that we can get Tanjiro interacting with others outside of the already pretty well fleshed out trio we've had so far。 It's not so much new characters as old characters we've barely met, but the change in group dynamic is refreshing。 Unfortunately that's about all the good I can say for this。 The villain introduction feels like we've already seen them before, reminding me of all the previous fights but now they're less new and therefore less exciting。 It's like a set-up volume that I can't tell what it's setting up for other than 'fight'。 Vague foreshadowing that might be important later。 Some hidden power-up that。。。 I thought Tanjiro wouldn't need since he already got some power-ups at the end of last volume? Apparently it wasn't enough and he needs more tricks, or random items, or whatever。This volume feels like more of the same with the promise that maybe, just maybe, something interesting might happen to make it worthwhile。 。。。more

I enjoyed this volume quite a bit!! Things slowed down a little bit after the last arc but I think it works for the characters, especially the re-introduction of Mitsuri, Tokito and Genya (the loml)

I feel like it's getting better and better。 I finally got a viz media subscription, so here I am folks。 (view spoiler)[ We know things got really interesting by the end, higher up demos can be hot sometimes, even kibutsuji when the demons gathered。 Pretty privilege, but that does not stop me from hating him。 The fact that the rank 1 is literally a demons slayer, and sun breather。 It was literally the training doll tanjiro was using。 It just blew my mind。 It's a good thing I have never, ever been I feel like it's getting better and better。 I finally got a viz media subscription, so here I am folks。 (view spoiler)[ We know things got really interesting by the end, higher up demos can be hot sometimes, even kibutsuji when the demons gathered。 Pretty privilege, but that does not stop me from hating him。 The fact that the rank 1 is literally a demons slayer, and sun breather。 It was literally the training doll tanjiro was using。 It just blew my mind。 It's a good thing I have never, ever been spoiled about this series, it's amazing honestly。 Kotetsu and Tanjiro's bonding moment was so sweet。 I missed Inosuke and zenistsu tho。 See ya'll, the next fighting arc is about to begin (hide spoiler)]。 。。。more

Timothy Pitkin

We finally meet all of the Upper Moon demons and it fits that they really are not a unified group and that they are only able to somewhat get along because of how strong Muzan is which kind of reminds me of how the Espada acted like in Bleach。 Also nice we get to learn more about Demon Slayers and the swordsmiths that make their swords。

Ahora tengo más dudas que respuestas (☉。☉)!Cada tomó va mejorando con la trama y presentación de nuevos personajes。

Perfect breather and background development。

What seems to be classic DS is that a new character is introduced and then there is just enough time (a few volumes) to really start to like the character, but then that character is cut out, possibly because the character gets stabbed in the heart by a striped upper rank idiot demon and then dies with a smile on his lips (whyyyyyyy) or, let’s say the character loses an arm and becomes just overall less flashy。 And now we have even more new characters but I don’t have the courage to like them be What seems to be classic DS is that a new character is introduced and then there is just enough time (a few volumes) to really start to like the character, but then that character is cut out, possibly because the character gets stabbed in the heart by a striped upper rank idiot demon and then dies with a smile on his lips (whyyyyyyy) or, let’s say the character loses an arm and becomes just overall less flashy。 And now we have even more new characters but I don’t have the courage to like them because I’m afraid I’ll never see them again。。。 。。。more

It started off really interesting and then the training arc happened which was so silly I don't know what to think of it。 The ending is really interesting because Tanjiro isn't fighting with Inosuke and Zenitsu。 I already miss them。 It started off really interesting and then the training arc happened which was so silly I don't know what to think of it。 The ending is really interesting because Tanjiro isn't fighting with Inosuke and Zenitsu。 I already miss them。 。。。more

I've come to notice a pattern (though it's not one I am angry about)。 We typically have one "set-up" volume and one action volume。 This was the set-up volume。 It's probably my favorite of the set-up volumes though because we se Tanjiro train。 We also see a few of the higher ranks。 The world building is high value too because we start to see the dynamics of the upper ranks。 Definitely one of the better set up stories。 A full review to post on my blog in time。 I've come to notice a pattern (though it's not one I am angry about)。 We typically have one "set-up" volume and one action volume。 This was the set-up volume。 It's probably my favorite of the set-up volumes though because we se Tanjiro train。 We also see a few of the higher ranks。 The world building is high value too because we start to see the dynamics of the upper ranks。 Definitely one of the better set up stories。 A full review to post on my blog in time。 。。。more
