This time when Jack and Eliza meet, there’s a connection neither of them can explain。 Both their lives are on the line, and once again, the stakes are deadly high。 Can they join forces in a complicated and dangerous mission, pretending to share a breathtaking love, without really falling for each other?

A Distant Shore is not a typical Karen Kingsbury book and is a suspenseful read。 This story deal with sex trafficking rings which is disturbing and a horrible subject that young girls are facing into today world。 Karen handle it well without getting too graphic。

THIS BOOK = a book for today, A book of trafficking 。 。 。 。 and most of all a book of redemption。 Karen Kingsbury has obviously done a LOT of research for this book and it shows, Entertaining, and totally reminds us to pray for the victims!!!

Michaela

A very unique book by Kingsbury, unlike any she’s done before。 Sex trafficking and second chances and undercover work。 It totally didn’t go the way I expected, but it was a beautiful story of love。

I thought I was reading an action/adventure book, but it's really sort of a sappy romance。  I DID appreciate the story line about human trafficking。  And the religious tie-in was a refreshing change。   I thought I was reading an action/adventure book, but it's really sort of a sappy romance。  I DID appreciate the story line about human trafficking。  And the religious tie-in was a refreshing change。   。。。more

Great start to the book。 The middle was a little dark but pick back up at the end。 Lots of twists。

First Karen Kingsbury in a number of years。 Much different than her Baxter family series。 Lots of suspenseful moments。 She tackles sex trafficking in this one and I think it is probably realistic, not too graphic。 Sweet love story。 There is a strong message of faith in the book and the author clearly shares how to become a believer in Christ。 Several wow-I-didn't-see-that-coming moments。 A message of hope in the midst of the dark and dangerous circumstances of life。 I think I've missed some good First Karen Kingsbury in a number of years。 Much different than her Baxter family series。 Lots of suspenseful moments。 She tackles sex trafficking in this one and I think it is probably realistic, not too graphic。 Sweet love story。 There is a strong message of faith in the book and the author clearly shares how to become a believer in Christ。 Several wow-I-didn't-see-that-coming moments。 A message of hope in the midst of the dark and dangerous circumstances of life。 I think I've missed some good books over the last few years from this author and need to go back and catch up。I read a library copy of the book and was not required to write a review。 The opinions are my own。 。。。more

A Distant ShoreI chose this book because of Karen Kingsbury。 It was unlike any of her previous books yet the message was even stronger, in my opinion。 It was horrible and believable and still gave hope。 I have so much respect and love for MS Kingsbury as she always shares the message of salvation and God's love。 I have NEVER been disappointed in one of her books。 A Distant ShoreI chose this book because of Karen Kingsbury。 It was unlike any of her previous books yet the message was even stronger, in my opinion。 It was horrible and believable and still gave hope。 I have so much respect and love for MS Kingsbury as she always shares the message of salvation and God's love。 I have NEVER been disappointed in one of her books。 。。。more

A Distant Shore is a wonderful written book about sex trafficking! Karen Kingsbury was able to bring love and God into such tragedy。 Keep it up Karen。 I will always be a loyal reader of your books!

Probably the best Karen Kingsbury books I have ever read! I love the depth of the story line and the characters。 The boom deals with human trafficking and just really makes you think。

What a wonderful book。 It’s a story of growing faith, two people finding God。 A story of the horrors of human trafficking and how two people did their part to help end it。 A young FBI agent & a beautiful FBI informant developed feelings for each other that developed into Love。 I would give this double five stars if I could。

This will probably not be a popular review。 This book takes you to Belize, Texas, DC and lands in Wilmington, NC。 I loved the scripture quotes before every chapter。 In my humble opinion, if the author would have started each chapter with that and just told the story, it would have received more stars from me。 The base story was great。 I loved learning more about trafficking, even though it's horrific。 The characters were endearing。 However, the faith based overtone was prominent。 As a Mom of a c This will probably not be a popular review。 This book takes you to Belize, Texas, DC and lands in Wilmington, NC。 I loved the scripture quotes before every chapter。 In my humble opinion, if the author would have started each chapter with that and just told the story, it would have received more stars from me。 The base story was great。 I loved learning more about trafficking, even though it's horrific。 The characters were endearing。 However, the faith based overtone was prominent。 As a Mom of a child that graduated from UNCW with a BFA in creative writing。。。the author could have expanded on the college, the culture, the campus to really make the students, alumni and their extended outreach want to recommend this book。 That most definitely fell short。 。。。more

Way to religious and predictable fpr me。

Randi

Started off good and then pushed Jesus。 Very unrealistic。 Weak characters。

Arleen S。 Plutner

TerribleThe story began promising, then got more cliched as it moved along。 But was not expecting this to be a religion based tale。 A CI for the FBI asking an agent to read the Bible to her, and then to baptize her during a mission in Cancun, etc。 was way over the top for me。

Just AMAZING。 Karen’s newest novel is unlike any book I have read of hers。 The topic she chose to write about was brave and full of a hidden world not brought to light enough。 Sex trafficking is a dark world but real。 The characters in A Distant Shore told a story making me want to keep reading with every page。 Highly recommend this to anyone!!!!

If only I could give this book more than 5 stars。 Karen Kingsbury you have really outdone yourself。 I’ve loved all of your books but this book。。。。。。WOW! I know this kind of stuff happens in the world and I know this is fiction but it was so real feeling。 This book。。。。the story。。。。。so touching。。。so gut wrenching。 Please don’t miss reading this one。 It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read。

This book was like an intricately woven design 。 。 。 there were pieces from here and there, told over a span of 20 years (but mainly focusing on a 3 year period) that just fit together somehow to make a beautifully told story of redemption and the way God can bring light to even the darkest of circumstances。(note that this book deals with sex trafficking, and as such, is a difficult (yet, in my opinion, important) story to read)

Joan Hunter

The story line kept my attention, but I was disappointed that the final third of the book was God, God, God。 I have no problem with references to religious beliefs, but this was way over the top and has discouraged me from reading any of the author's other books。 The story line kept my attention, but I was disappointed that the final third of the book was God, God, God。 I have no problem with references to religious beliefs, but this was way over the top and has discouraged me from reading any of the author's other books。 。。。more

This book was a quick, fun read。 I did, however, have some issues, from the depictions of sex trafficking (I saw the brief mention of the wayfair conspiracy parroted as fact) to the assertion, whenever anyone “good” was mentioned, that they believe in God or are a churchgoer。 I liked that these characters have faith, but not everyone does, and there are those who have faith or profess to who also have ill intentions。 Plenty of wonderful people, including those who help victims of sex trafficking This book was a quick, fun read。 I did, however, have some issues, from the depictions of sex trafficking (I saw the brief mention of the wayfair conspiracy parroted as fact) to the assertion, whenever anyone “good” was mentioned, that they believe in God or are a churchgoer。 I liked that these characters have faith, but not everyone does, and there are those who have faith or profess to who also have ill intentions。 Plenty of wonderful people, including those who help victims of sex trafficking, aren’t Christians, and “Christian” isn’t the arbiter of good intent that Kingsbury seems to imply it is。 See: Josh Duggar。 As I said, though, this was fun and exciting。 I enjoyed it overall。 。。。more

I loved this book! While it was not the typical Karen Kingsbury book, it did have a love story towards the end and showed what God can do in your life。 It had me on the edge of my seat for most of the book。 I strongly recommend!

A little slow, but fast enough paced at times that I decided to finish it。 Picked this ip after hearing Karen doing an interview on the radio。 Was nice to visit with her again via her stories as it has been years。 I'd normally shy away from a plot like this one, but I knew I could trust her to be realistic without being gross or graphic。 All in all, a decent read。 Just not going to make my top of the year list。 A little slow, but fast enough paced at times that I decided to finish it。 Picked this ip after hearing Karen doing an interview on the radio。 Was nice to visit with her again via her stories as it has been years。 I'd normally shy away from a plot like this one, but I knew I could trust her to be realistic without being gross or graphic。 All in all, a decent read。 Just not going to make my top of the year list。 。。。more

A gripping story that I raced through to completion to see how it all turned out。 It was one of those stories that you know pretty much how the ending will be: the boy and the girl will live happily ever after。 But yet, you are not sure what that happily ever after is going to look like for sure and how all the pieces will fall into place。It's sad to me that a book like this would ever need to be written or that it could potentially be based on true events。 I don't know all the statistics of hum A gripping story that I raced through to completion to see how it all turned out。 It was one of those stories that you know pretty much how the ending will be: the boy and the girl will live happily ever after。 But yet, you are not sure what that happily ever after is going to look like for sure and how all the pieces will fall into place。It's sad to me that a book like this would ever need to be written or that it could potentially be based on true events。 I don't know all the statistics of human trafficking, but I can only imagine that there are pieces of this story that could be real life living for some young ladies and that is incredibly sad and angering。 Telling the story of Eliza and her journey from a happy, carefree childhood into the depths of human trafficking and back out again, Karen tries to be discreet and she does a good job of it。 And yet you are left to imagine the horrors that many young girls experienced。 It was also interesting to see the FBI side of it as well as Jack works to bring down human trafficking rings。 Again, it is a fictional story, but I also think Karen did her research and tried to portray it as accurately as you can。 The book is also one of hope and restoration, of seeing how God can restore the brokenness and use it for His honor and glory。 I do think the book over-simplified Eliza's journey to freedom。 I think there would have been a lot more for her to work through than the book portrayed。 I also would consider this a triggering story and would exercise caution in just blithely recommending it to anyone。 It is a good story and it totally captured my attention。I received this book from Atria Books via Net Galley and was not required to write a positive review。 All opinions expressed are my own。 。。。more

MIRACLES HAPPEN! I read a Karen Kingsbury books that actually exceeded my expectations。 Now, it could be because they were so low to start out with。。。。but whatever。 I will TAKE it。 Perhaps it is because Karen got out of her usual niche。 The Baxters were nowhere to be found。 And trust me, I like the Baxters。 Well, somewhat。 But I digress。 This book was not set in Bloomington, Indiana with the perfect family scenarios (because face it, most usually are)。 Rather, this book is set on the shores of B MIRACLES HAPPEN! I would really like to see Karen continue to expand her repertoire。。。。。something, anything。 。。。more
