Summary

Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world。 Raised by her grandparents--who now help raise her seven-year-old daughter, Juno--Jess has been left behind too often to feel comfortable letting anyone in。 After all, her father's never been around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn't "father material" before Juno was even born。 Jess holds her loved ones close, but working constantly to stay afloat is hard。。。and lonely。

But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that's predicted to change dating forever。 Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers: This Jess understands。 At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98% compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly's founder, Dr。 River Pena。 This is one number she can't wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr。 Pena。 The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate。 But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get to know him and we'll pay you。 Jess--who is barely making ends meet--is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River。 As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the "Diamond" pairing that could make GeneticAlly a mint in stock prices, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist--and the science behind a soulmate--than she thought。

Funny, warm, and full of heart, The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated。

Another excellent book by the fantastic duo that is Christina Lauren! I wasn't sure about the concept of this one before I started, but it captured my attention from the very beginning。 Another excellent book by the fantastic duo that is Christina Lauren! Really freaking fluffy。 I liked the whole "do we trust the data or do we trust ourselves" angle, and I think it was resolved nicely。 Really freaking fluffy。 I liked the whole "do we trust the data or do we trust ourselves" angle, and I think it was resolved nicely。 。。。more

I definitely enjoyed this book。 Perfect for a dark, cloudy rainy summer day。 Everyone needs a little romance in their life once in awhile and this book provides that。 Definitely recommend。

Slow start but 4。5 overall。

Another gem from my favorite romance author duo。 I love their pacing。 The conflict and resolution has just enough tension to feel important but not enough to stress me out。 I was super crabby when I was reading this and could actually feel myself being soothed。

4 starsFinally。 Back in 2019, I read my first Christina Lauren book, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Unhoneymooners as an easy, breezy summer read。 But then I decided to start reading the duo's backlist。。。 and it hasn't been a great journey, to say the least。 To sum it up, I haven't given any of their other books more than 2 stars (awkward/guilty/cringe face), and Twice In a Blue Moon I would've happily rated zero if that was an option on Goodreads。So to say The Soulmate Equation was a breath of fr 4 starsFinally。 Back in 2019, I read my first Christina Lauren book, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Unhoneymooners as an easy, breezy summer read。 But then I decided to start reading the duo's backlist。。。 and it hasn't been a great journey, to say the least。 To sum it up, I haven't given any of their other books more than 2 stars (awkward/guilty/cringe face), and Twice In a Blue Moon I would've happily rated zero if that was an option on Goodreads。So to say The Soulmate Equation was a breath of fresh air is somewhat of an understatement。 Easily my favourite story by the co-authors so far, it was fluffy, fast and fun - aka everything that CL is known and beloved by readers for, and in this instance, I have to gladly agree。(view spoiler)[Although, if I must get nitpicky, the storyline's last 5% was a bit of a letdown, not to mention ridiculously rushed。 Up until this point, River was an emotionally intuitive and supportive male lead, but then his character did a complete 360 - not contacting the heroine for eight days when there is a bump in the road and seemingly needing to rely on the data to feel safe in his decision to be with her (although he claims otherwise, he did run and view the test results, so I beg to differ)。 Poor form, Dr Pena, poor form。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

I love Christina Lauren books。 I feel in love with her Beautiful Bastard so it was a no brainer to pick this one up。 I loved the blurb which helped me decide to leave the rest of my TBR list and pick it up。 Matching people by DNA sounds interesting enough <3 but can you really find your soulmate?I felt the characters and even though the start was slow, I am a fan of slowburn romance so it didn't bother me at all。 Tropes: single mom, nerdy scientist, forced dating。。。 what more can you wish for? I felt that the book started off a bit slow and I could not totally grasp the concept of matchmaking based on DNA。 Jess is a single mother raised by her grandparents who live next door and she has a daughter,Juno。 Jess and her best friend Fizzy, submit their DNA to a new company that claims great results on matchmaking。 The big surprise is when Jess matches with the owner of the company, River whom she has seen at her local coffee shop and with whom she is not impressed。 A true romance develops I felt that the book started off a bit slow and I could not totally grasp the concept of matchmaking based on DNA。 Jess is a single mother raised by her grandparents who live next door and she has a daughter,Juno。 Jess and her best friend Fizzy, submit their DNA to a new company that claims great results on matchmaking。 The big surprise is when Jess matches with the owner of the company, River whom she has seen at her local coffee shop and with whom she is not impressed。 A true romance develops in spite of Jess' reservations and some hiccups along the way。I loved Jess, Fizzy, Juno and the grandparents but thought Jess' mother added little to the book。 This is a quick and easy read which will be enjoyed by the Christina Lauren fans。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I read almost all of this book in one day。 It is really good, but I didn’t like how fast things happened, how River could flip a switch personality wise in the beginning and not knowing what the actual compatibility score was。 I feel like that cheats the reader of valuable info and knowing would have been better for the story。 I also thought the fact that she was being paid was going to come out in the articles and I was surprised when it didn’t。 I think that could have taken the book and relati I read almost all of this book in one day。 It is really good, but I didn’t like how fast things happened, how River could flip a switch personality wise in the beginning and not knowing what the actual compatibility score was。 I feel like that cheats the reader of valuable info and knowing would have been better for the story。 I also thought the fact that she was being paid was going to come out in the articles and I was surprised when it didn’t。 I think that could have taken the book and relationship into a whole new direction。 Overall, I liked it but love like that isn’t realistic。 。。。more

I don't know how these ladies do it, but they have a way of pulling you into the story and you feel like you're right there。 I love a strong woman lead, and Jess was perfect! You could see in the story how she struggled with each of her roles in life, statistician, mom, daughter, granddaughter, they all required a piece of her。 I liked how she and Juno had their village and there wasn't this "need" for a father figure。 Fizzy was the best and I loved the nod to the romance genre as her career。The I don't know how these ladies do it, but they have a way of pulling you into the story and you feel like you're right there。 I love a strong woman lead, and Jess was perfect! I liked th book and maybe it was worth more stars than the three I gave。 It's the topic, I have wach two series on Netflix on this。 Sure not the same things but had me a bit spoilered。 In fact I liked the last part and the mystery on their score。 Maybe I would prefere see more love than mahtematic score because I think we are more brain and emotion than dna and blood。 I liked th book and maybe it was worth more stars than the three I gave。 It's the topic, I have wach two series on Netflix on this。 Sure not the same things but had me a bit spoilered。 In fact I liked the last part and the mystery on their score。 Maybe I would prefere see more love than mahtematic score because I think we are more brain and emotion than dna and blood。 。。。more

I am not sure about this one。 There were a couple of things that I liked:- Interesting and quite thought-through environment - The main male characterUnfortunately, there we many things that irritated me:- Many unnecessary secondary stories: grandparents, mother and a daughter of the female character- Horrible, unrealistic best friend that was absurdly over the topThe book was interesting enough for me to finish it but I had to skip through at least 60%。

I loved every adorable second of this。 River could get it。

I knew it was going to be good。 I knew I was going to love it。 But! BUT! I came away floored by how wonderfully sweet, authentically clever, and amazed at how much of a breath of fresh air this was。 I adored the entire book--every last word of it。 The Soulmate Equation was so much more than I expected it to be, and my bar is pretty high as it is because I am a CLo fanatic。 This will be a comfort read for the ages。

Such a fast paced read。 I flew through this one and understandably so。 What a fun read and how can you not keep flipping the pages to see what happens next with Jess and River。。。or to see what Fizzy will say next?!? This book has everything。。。family dynamics (both bad and great), love story, friendship goals and the relationship with a mother and daughter。 Now on to read everything else Christina Lauren has written。 Highly recommend!

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren is an instant classic。 It gave me all the FEELS。 😆😍🥳 I loved Jess and River。 Admittedly, I rolled my eyes when I first heard that Jess’s daughter name was Juno。 However, as the story progressed the name Juno grow on me and made more senses ☺️

CLo’s back, tell a friend。

Another beautifully crafted story by the duo。 The idea of finding a soulmate through the advancement in biotechnology (genetics) is quite extraordinary or rather bizarre but nonetheless the characters were quite relatable。 Loved reading it。 I love reading books where women are comprehended as strong, decision makers and not shying away from their vulnerabilities too。 This book has good humour, romance and happy ending。 I definitely recommend it。

First 2/3 were better than the last 1/3。 It felt rushed。 I knew that there had to be some sort of conflict; this wasn’t the worst choice。 I just think the reactions to the conflict didn’t seem right。 The grandparents were largely forgotten, as were the sisters。 They could have been involved in this part。 It wasn’t really clear what River was thinking either。 Ever。 I guess that could be normal?3。5。 I liked it。 I just didn’t end up loving it。 But it was so so so much better than their last book!

I vacillated between giving this 4 stars and 5 and finally settled on 4 stars。 One of the reasons I stopped reading CL is what I term the 3rd act problem: wherein, if the book is divided into 3 basic acts, the MCs meet, the MCs find themselves falling for each other, and finally, the dark moment followed by the reunion/resolution, in the final act, the dark moment happens (and usually one of the MCs is to primarily blame for it) and then the resolution happens but is somewhat unsatisfactory in t I vacillated between giving this 4 stars and 5 and finally settled on 4 stars。 One of the reasons I stopped reading CL is what I term the 3rd act problem: wherein, if the book is divided into 3 basic acts, the MCs meet, the MCs find themselves falling for each other, and finally, the dark moment followed by the reunion/resolution, in the final act, the dark moment happens (and usually one of the MCs is to primarily blame for it) and then the resolution happens but is somewhat unsatisfactory in that the party at fault didn’t grovel enough and therefore, I stop rooting for the couple。 Or, the dark moment is so bad, I deem the relationship unsalvageable altogether and again, stop rooting for the couple。 Their last few books that I read all suffered from one or both of these things and if I’m reading a romance, I need to be able to invest in and root for the couple to find their HEA。 All too often, I was reading their books and feeling like I didn’t really care if the couple made it or even worse, didn’t think they *should* make it。 This book doesn’t really suffer from that。 In fact, I rather LOVED Jess and River and Juno (kids are iffy for me in romance novels but I saw so much of my own child in Juno, I couldn’t help but fall for her)。 I thought the premise was so fascinating (once I got past the spit kit - in the COVID era, spit immediately means something bad, now)。 Was it a little too data driven and science-y? Perhaps。 Am I sad that CL no longer writes high heat books? Hell yes。 When the dark moment came, it took me a moment to figure out what actually was happening。 If you’re not a data/statistics nerd, you might feel like that part of the book needs a little bit more clarity。 And when River reacts (rather predictably, I thought) to the information Jess presents him with, I wasn’t supper happy with him but I could also understand his POV。 I think the thing that actually bothered me the most was Jess and her inability to cut her mother out of her life and keep enabling her by giving her money and bailing her out。 But, even as I write this, I feel like the worst kind of hypocrite because I know all too well how hard it is to cut your own family out, even for the sake of self-preservation and your own mental well-being。 Regardless, I did really enjoy this book more than I’ve enjoyed most of CL’s latest offerings and I adored River and Jess, both as individuals and despite River’s behavior towards the end, finished the book still rooting for them and their HEA。 。。。more
