3。5 There were parts that were boring and confusing。 I couldn't vibe with the first 1/4 of this but the parts that were good were also strong。 Mutants have become my favorite part of the Marvel Universe and this graphic novel is a strong reason why。 3。5 There were parts that were boring and confusing。 I couldn't vibe with the first 1/4 of this but the parts that were good were also strong。 Mutants have become my favorite part of the Marvel Universe and this graphic novel is a strong reason why。 。。。more

I enjoyed it。 Interesting new twist on an old character。

I've found that you simply can't just pick up an X-comic without being lost。 I collected in the 90s and early 00s and then stopped。 I've been periodically coming back every now and again that last 5 years or so but I'm not sure I can。 At least not randomly。 If it's to make any sense, I've gotta go back to when I stopped and read chronologically。 Here are my notes, mostly so I can remember what happened, on this volume。Prof X, who regained the ability to walk sometime, give up on integration and I've found that you simply can't just pick up an X-comic without being lost。 I collected in the 90s and early 00s and then stopped。 I've been periodically coming back every now and again that last 5 years or so but I'm not sure I can。 At least not randomly。 If it's to make any sense, I've gotta go back to when I stopped and read chronologically。 Here are my notes, mostly so I can remember what happened, on this volume。Prof X, who regained the ability to walk sometime, give up on integration and partners with Krakoa, Magneto, and Moira McTaggart to create a mutant nation on the living island。 Sounds like the mutant edition of Garvyism (as in Marcus)。 I think the collection interfiles the two stories to jump around the timeline。 There are four periods in time:The "current" one where the mutant nation is being created。The 10 years in the future one where it exists。The 100 years in the future one where Nimrod the Lesser rules, as the Machine Uprising has happened。 The 1000 years in the future one where The Post-Human Race is working with The Phallanx to subsume human knowledge。 It was interesting seeing the likes of Mr。 Sinister and Apocalypse sitting beside the X-Men。I think Moira's reincarnation power, where she remembers her previous lives and since time is cyclical, she can try again with the knowledge of her past failures。 That didn't sit well with me as a Western Buddhist。 I wish they'd stuck to one storyline They try to tell too many at once to keep the reader guessing but it actually took me away from the story。 I would have preferred they tell one really good story in the stead of 4 potentially good stories。 For me the creation of the mutant nation was the best。 。。。more

I was completely lost for most of this。 The story is told in a confusingly non-linear way and assumes the reader has tons of previous knowledge of the series。 There were some neat aspects to it for sure but I couldn’t get into it or enjoy it at all。

The perfect reset for a new age of Mutant history for Marvel。 I have to read more Jonathan Hickman

Excellent! Hickman’s storytelling is a master class, this supersedes normal expectation of comics and science fiction, ascending to the realm of classic。 This is a story to be enjoyed not once but many times。 Moira X is a new character for the ages。

Now this is what I want out of an X-Men series。 Art is superb。 Story is batshit crazy ambitious。 The retcon reimagining of a character (that I somehow managed to not get spoiled for me) is fun & interesting。It’s a good base for new mutant stories that are not just them struggling to survive day to day。 I’m definitely interested to read the new titles and see where this leads。

I usually can't stand Jonathan Hickman, but this was better than most of the stuff he writes, even if the whole thing feels like one giant prologue for another story。 I usually can't stand Jonathan Hickman, but this was better than most of the stuff he writes, even if the whole thing feels like one giant prologue for another story。 。。。more

Super interesting idea, though I mostly just want to see regular mutants living their lives in this mutant society。

Every so often, Marvel attempts to reboot the X-Men, and for the most part, these reboots are fairly similar。Then writer Jonathan Hickman more or less blew the whole thing up by putting all of the mutants, good, bad, or otherwise, into their own nation。 Sure, that means abandoning his longtime dream of human/mutant coexistence, but that's certainly something new。 Factor in the intriguing idea that longtime ally Moira MacTaggert was herself a mutant with some kind of reincarnation power, and ther Every so often, Marvel attempts to reboot the X-Men, and for the most part, these reboots are fairly similar。Then writer Jonathan Hickman more or less blew the whole thing up by putting all of the mutants, good, bad, or otherwise, into their own nation。 Sure, that means abandoning his longtime dream of human/mutant coexistence, but that's certainly something new。 Factor in the intriguing idea that longtime ally Moira MacTaggert was herself a mutant with some kind of reincarnation power, and there's a potential for something big here in a story that spans over a thousand years。Why then did it not sit completely well for me? I liked a lot of what they were doing, it was truly new and interesting, but at the same time, it seems almost like the X-Men just decided to set themselves up as something closer to Magneto or Apocalypse's views on things。 I am interested in seeing where this is going, but honestly, I am not even sure where to go from here。 。。。more

A lot of crossover titles or ‘event’ series claim to be ground breaking, will change the things forever, leave everyone stunned etc。 Although some are solid reads, few titles/series truly change things in a meaningful way。 This is an exception。 Things truly do change in this next evolution of the X-Men。 I had only somewhat stayed away from details when these titles were being released episodically (perhaps burnt by too much previous hype) but even knowing some of the plot points didn’t stop my e A lot of crossover titles or ‘event’ series claim to be ground breaking, will change the things forever, leave everyone stunned etc。 Although some are solid reads, few titles/series truly change things in a meaningful way。 This is an exception。 Things truly do change in this next evolution of the X-Men。 I had only somewhat stayed away from details when these titles were being released episodically (perhaps burnt by too much previous hype) but even knowing some of the plot points didn’t stop my enjoyment of where the X-Men went and how they got there in a change that is truly a new direction for them (without wanting to spoil things for anyone)。The art was gorgeous and matched the plot, there was just a physical hefty amount of stuff to read, the plot is a genuine difference to the ‘find current baddie, beat current baddie’ and the impact of this volume actually has continued from there。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Hickman is a genius, albeit a little bit insane。 The story isn't too difficult to follow as long as you follow the reading order。 By the time you get to the final issues, everything has come together in an extremely satisfying conclusion。 Compared to say, the House of M comics of the early aughts, this is a much cleaner and much more exciting world-building series。 Can't wait to dive into the following X-Men series!

A really cool new entry point to X-Men as a concept。 Opens up the question of what happens when the mutants are allowed to grow their culture as one, rather than the constant struggle to merely survive。

I like Hickman。 His cerebral worldbuilding works, and it helps that there are moments from characters I love。 This soft reboot of the X-Men worked for me because there were moments of humanity, particularly in Scott, Jean, and Moira。 However, if you don't know much X-Men history, this thing is probably an insane mess of concepts。 Hickman does a great job of both going back to the core X issues while also growing new mysteries。 The retcon here is a little unbelievable, but I like it, and the poss I like Hickman。 His cerebral worldbuilding works, and it helps that there are moments from characters I love。 This soft reboot of the X-Men worked for me because there were moments of humanity, particularly in Scott, Jean, and Moira。 However, if you don't know much X-Men history, this thing is probably an insane mess of concepts。 Hickman does a great job of both going back to the core X issues while also growing new mysteries。 The retcon here is a little unbelievable, but I like it, and the possibilities it offers。 Personally, the Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman Omnibus, Vol。 1 is still peak Hickman for me, but that doesn't mean that this wasn't a fun ride。 。。。more
