Summary

Yeah, i know that writing a review for a textbook is kind of ridiculous, but i like over-analyzing things, so i just couldn't help。I used this textbook to self-study polish。 I didn't have any particular reason to pick up this language。 I was looking for a side hobby to relax, and being a language nerd, i naturally gravitated towards starting a language。Also, my native language is russian, so polish became a nice and easy thing to do to unwind in the evening。The story follows five people from all Yeah, i know that writing a review for a textbook is kind of ridiculous, but i like over-analyzing things, so i just couldn't help。I used this textbook to self-study polish。 I didn't have any particular reason to pick up this language。 I was looking for a side hobby to relax, and being a language nerd, i naturally gravitated towards starting a language。Also, my native language is russian, so polish became a nice and easy thing to do to unwind in the evening。The story follows five people from all over the world who, despite having grown up in drastically different environments, overcome their cultural differences to pursue a common goal - to become fluent in polish。The textbook actually is incredibly detailed when it comes to character development and takes pains to really differenciate one character from another。 This heavily reminds me of my childhood experiences, when i used to study english from children's textbooks, which usually have a cast of characters to engage the young audience。 'Krok po kroku' takes a similar approach, but targets the adult audience, which for me is both fresh and nostalgic。The textbook is surprisingly inclusive, which you wouldn't necessarily expect from a language textbook。 Mami, who is basically the main character, is a japanese girl, so the learners perceive life in modern poland and all the everyday vocabulary through the eyes of someone who is significantly culturally different from the country they live in。 Also, mami is the most developed character from the whole cast, so many details were put into her。 Like, when the topic of day-to-day routine was introduced, we got to see a manga-styled comic which follows Mami through her daily schedule, which was so cute。I wish Tom's character could occupy a little bit more of the screen time though, because i can hardly recall any information about him。 Maybe he'll become a more prominent character in the second part of 'Krok po kroku'。One thing which i guess can be a turn-off about this textbook is that sometimes it lacks grammar explanations, and generally focuses more on vocabulary。 It's not a problem for me, since i can speak russian and a lot of grammar points are similar in the two languages, so i intuitively get the grammar。 Overall, i greatly enjoyed the learning process and fell in love with polish。 Would recommend。 。。。more

Grammar rules aren’t explained well but at least the audio is full of zest!

A pretty good polish textbook。 Pretty exciting to get some formal training in polish (besides Duolingo)。 It gives you vocabulary in a wide range of topics。 In gives a much wider range of words in each topic than Duolingo。 Plus, many of the readings teach you about Poland and Polish culture, which was neat。For the self-taught learners, I would recommend having at least some polish background beginning before starting, because while it goes through the basic grammar, it uses a lot of words very qu A pretty good polish textbook。 Pretty exciting to get some formal training in polish (besides Duolingo)。 It gives you vocabulary in a wide range of topics。 In gives a much wider range of words in each topic than Duolingo。 Plus, many of the readings teach you about Poland and Polish culture, which was neat。For the self-taught learners, I would recommend having at least some polish background beginning before starting, because while it goes through the basic grammar, it uses a lot of words very quickly, and a completely new person would have to look up every word, which would be extremely time consuming。 My only two criticisms is when I went to grade my answers on the online portal, the question’s/answer’s order was different than in the textbook。 Also, it would be neat if the textbook had a glossary, because some of the words were more complex language, and it was hard for me to find a definition online that made sense, and there wasn’t enough context for me to get the exact definition of words。 However, didn’t much detract from my overall reading experience。 。。。more
