I am not an Austen fan。 Not really。 I did buy this used after reading it in project Gutenberg。。。it was painful。 My first attempt was in I think 2010。 I wanted to see what the hype was about。 Nothing。 I couldn't put into words then why I couldn't love an Austen book。 I didn't touch another work of hers for almost a decade。 I tried P&P again。 I worked really hard to get through one or two chapters a night。 It ended up putting me to sleep sometimes even before I finished one。 I slept good though! A friend of mine at the time introduced me to the BBC version of this book。 I was invited over to watch all 5 hours of it。 I loved it。 Still don't see the hype of Mr。 Darcy。 I'll never see the hype of him, but he does have my respect。 Oh, he has my respect。 He knew what others were saying about him to others, even in his presence, and he never reacted to it。 His rejected marriage proposal didn't make him abuse or hurt Lizzy like so many woman need to be afraid of when a man who wants them doesn't get their way。 He took her answer at face value, unlike her cousin who I forgot the name of who proposed to her earlier。 Most rejected men like to avenge their feelings, but instead Darcy cleared matters up when trouble happened in the family that would have positively ruined all the other females in that family。 But Darcy did admit that he only did this for Lizzy, to think well of him and love him。。。NOT because it was the right thing to do, so。。。。 Eeeehhh。。。This is what I like and respect about both Lizzy and Darcy。 No matter what people said or did they both stuck to what they felt was right。 They didn't give in to others。 I think it took Lizzy some time to grow up from gossiping probably because she lived with someone like her mother, but she did。 This book brings out the outcome of parental neglect, the lack of love and respect when marriage is made hastily and on shallow motives, the integrity of not going off because of gossip, and the trouble that's saved when you find out matters for yourself。I give this book a 2 star rating because I can't stand Austen's writing style。 I can't get lost in this story because I'm forever reminded that she is there writing the book and trying so desperately hard to explain to me what is happening and never shutting up。 A good writer does more showing than telling。 I find that too annoying。 The writers and producers behind the scenes of the BBC version of this book gets my 5 star rating。 They made sense of this insufferable book。 。。。more

Watched Pride and Prejudice (2005) and loved it so I decided to read the book and it was AMAZING! Classics can be intimidating so I didn’t know if I would enjoy the old language but Jane Austen is so talented it wasn’t a problem。 She handpicks the best details, mannerisms, and comedy。

Rosamund Pike is an excellent narrator。

a lovely, heartwarming, and humorous story, made me laugh and/or smile several times but the language made it quite hard to read casually in between lessons

Jane Austen's work is exceptional。 The writing is beautifully done。 The descriptive and intelligent way of speaking and describing the characters are phenomenal。 I fell in love with the era and mannerisms of this whole novel。 I can see why this is an age old classic。 I can declare this to be my favorite book。 Jane Austen's work is exceptional。 The writing is beautifully done。 The descriptive and intelligent way of speaking and describing the characters are phenomenal。 I fell in love with the era and mannerisms of this whole novel。 I can see why this is an age old classic。 I can declare this to be my favorite book。 。。。more

I’ve had this book in my reading wishlist for so many years。 As I get easily intimidated by classics, I tend to wonder whether I’ll get bored, whether I’ll like it or not, so I always put off reading it。 Especially after so many people have clearly shared their love for this book。 I’m not gonna lie。 The first part I really struggled to go though。 Maybe it was the fact that there were so many names in the plot, or that not much was happening, or maybe that I was only reading it on my commute to w I’ve had this book in my reading wishlist for so many years。 As I get easily intimidated by classics, I tend to wonder whether I’ll get bored, whether I’ll like it or not, so I always put off reading it。 Especially after so many people have clearly shared their love for this book。 I’m not gonna lie。 The first part I really struggled to go though。 Maybe it was the fact that there were so many names in the plot, or that not much was happening, or maybe that I was only reading it on my commute to work and by the time I’d get off the tram not much did stick to my brain。 But after the first part I’d grown to love this book! I do wish there was more of the love story between Jane and Bingley (or, in all honesty, also of Eliza and Darcy)。 Oh how annoying was Lydia? I really did NOT like her。。。 Anyhow, I’m definitely gonna reread it, perhaps towards the end of the year。 And I already can’t wait! 。。。more

A very interesting read, in which Jane Austen manages to ridiculize English high society by literal descriptions of their manners, interactions, social conventions and civility, putting them under the reader's eye as unnecessary, superficial and trivial。 Throughout the novel many characters change and develop their positions towards marriage and their opinions of others, specially Elizabeth and Darcy, who have to overcome their prejudice and pride to acknowledge their love。 Its also very interes A very interesting read, in which Jane Austen manages to ridiculize English high society by literal descriptions of their manners, interactions, social conventions and civility, putting them under the reader's eye as unnecessary, superficial and trivial。 Throughout the novel many characters change and develop their positions towards marriage and their opinions of others, specially Elizabeth and Darcy, who have to overcome their prejudice and pride to acknowledge their love。 Its also very interesting how all the characters are protrayed and buitl upon based on their dialogue and not just thier descriptions。 Mrs。 Bennet changes her attitude towards others on a whim, Mr。 Collins' long sentences and his opposing characteristics, the duplicity of most every relationship, and all the interactions between the characters made the novel a joy to read and analyze。 (view spoiler)[The pay-off of Elizabeth's and Darcy's love was well deserverd and not rushed at all, specially Elizabeth's change of heart, which was given the due time and reasoning to happen, and she stayed true to her search for hapiness in marriage above economic stability, her resolve greatly portrayed during her face-off with Lady Catherine de Bourgh。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

It goes a little slow but the depiction of the surroundings and the feelings and the characters written at that point of time in history is just extraordinary。 The story is pretty sweet too。

Sure。。。 Elizabeth is badass。。。 and yes, it's nice to know that Mr。 Darcy wasn't an arsehole all along。 But it's just not for me in terms of writing style or issues covered。 Why don't any of these people either: A) have jobs!?B) use their free time to actually do some good in the world instead of just caring about land and balls!? I am normally not the person to read classics but this book。。。 it was so good。I mostly read it bc the 2005 movie is my comfort movie & I wanted to see if it was as good。 (it was。)It started of a little slow but after that I couldn’t put it away。 The characters all grew so much and it was really interesting to see。

I enjoyed this more than I expected to。 I want to read more classics, but I generally have the expectation that I won't enjoy them, especially for a romance book。 It still isn't my genre, but the characters in this book were pretty great and I can see why it's among so many people's favorites。 I enjoyed this more than I expected to。 I want to read more classics, but I generally have the expectation that I won't enjoy them, especially for a romance book。 It still isn't my genre, but the characters in this book were pretty great and I can see why it's among so many people's favorites。 。。。more
