Summary

The internationally renowned, clinically tested, revolutionary diet program to lose weight, fight disease, and live a longer, healthier life。

Can what you eat determine how long, and how well, you live? The clinically proven answer is yes, and The Longevity Diet is easier to follow than you'd think。 The culmination of 25 years of research on ageing, nutrition, and disease across the globe, this unique combination of an everyday diet and fasting-mimicking diet (FMD) to be done only 3-4 times per year lays out a simple solution to living to a healthy old age through nutrition。

FMD does away with the misery and starvation most of us experience while fasting and helps you reap all the beneficial health effects of a restrictive diet while avoiding the negative stressors, like low energy and sleeplessness。

Valter Longo, Director of the Longevity Institute at USC and the Program on Longevity and Cancer at IFOM in Milan, developed THE FMD after making a series of remarkable discoveries in mice and humans indicating that specific diets can activate stem cells and promote regeneration and rejuvenation in multiple organs to reduce the risk for diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease。 Longo's simple pescatarian daily eating plan and the periodic, fasting-mimicking techniques can both yield impressive results。 Low in proteins and sugars and rich in healthy fats and plant-based foods, The Longevity Diet is clinically proven to help you:

Lose weight and reduce abdominal fat
Make simple changes which can extend the healthy lifespan
Prevent age-related muscle and bone loss
Build your resistance to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's and cancer

Longo's healthy, life span-extending plan is based on an easy-to-adopt pescatarian plan along with the fasting-mimicking diet 4 times a year, and just 5 days at a time。

The Longevity Diet is the key to living a longer, healthier, and more fulfilled life。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I believe in nutrition and fasting from the studies I have done in the past。 And from my own personal experiences。 I was hoping this book would add to my knowledge base。 But the author relies on evolution for his theories。 To rely on a theory to promote a theory is like building on a straw wall to prop up another straw wall。 Ironically the decline of the body deals with the second law of thermodynamics, which is a proven scientific natural part of nature and disproves evolution。 which says since I believe in nutrition and fasting from the studies I have done in the past。 And from my own personal experiences。 I was hoping this book would add to my knowledge base。 But the author relies on evolution for his theories。 To rely on a theory to promote a theory is like building on a straw wall to prop up another straw wall。 Ironically the decline of the body deals with the second law of thermodynamics, which is a proven scientific natural part of nature and disproves evolution。 which says since the beginning of time, all plants, planets, animals, genetically have evolved。 Thermotinics point out the natural law of Entropy。。。。that genes each generation diminish, that the very body diminishes, (over time) that nature itself over the centuries is diminishing。 Thermodynamics says since the beginning of creation, things have regressed over time, not "evolved。" Time tends to regress nature not enhance it。 Our very eyes can see this as we walk through this short life。 This scientist deals more with this concept (thermodynamics) in actuality。。。in application than the ideals in (any form) of evolution。 I really wanted to like this book。 But there is much theory, little fact。 Though some facts are given in regard to fasting and health。This book's summary for longevity。 Avoid sugar, (which feeds cancer cells and creates illness)。 Restrict/lower calories, through fasting (intermittently)。 This slows the aging process。 And improves health in cells and in the DNA。 Ingest high amounts of plant-based foods for nutrients, (to feed the cells and keep them young)。 The author recommends a presbyterian diet, (plant food and seafood, predominantly fish)。 This diet is rich in antioxidants, living enzymes, healthy fats, and probiotics。 。。。more

Entendible a nivel usuario e interesante a nivel profesional。 Explica con estudios científicos que te desarrolla por qué la dieta de la longevidad que se propone, sí funciona。 Para mí fue un poco repetitivo。。。 Aunque también revelador。

Longevity through eating properly Excellent but hard to get to grips with FMD (Fasting Mimicking Diet), especially if one wants to do this without the recommended packaged meals。

Decently balanced science-based nutrition/lifestyle book。

There might be a good idea in here, but so many chapters were just repeats of the prior chapters。 The "meat" of the Fasting Mimicking Diet" was a little table in the middle of a page in the middle of a chapter, with little expansion or explanation。 The Longevity Diet was pretty much the same diet we've been told for years。 Eat lots of veggies, have some nuts, forgo sugar, don't eat too much。 If I could eat like that, I'd have been thin decades ago。 Meh。 There might be a good idea in here, but so many chapters were just repeats of the prior chapters。 The "meat" of the Fasting Mimicking Diet" was a little table in the middle of a page in the middle of a chapter, with little expansion or explanation。 The Longevity Diet was pretty much the same diet we've been told for years。 Eat lots of veggies, have some nuts, forgo sugar, don't eat too much。 If I could eat like that, I'd have been thin decades ago。 Meh。 。。。more

Really detailed scientific book about the proper lifestyle to maximize health and longevity。 I'm less science-minded when it comes to this stuff and really just want to be told what to do with inspiring stories, but that's not what this book promises so I won't dock it, it's just my personal preference。I will, however, for my own review purposes, bullet out the summary of the author's research (listed out towards the end of the book, with more info under each bullet)。 I think, in all, this mimic Really detailed scientific book about the proper lifestyle to maximize health and longevity。 I'm less science-minded when it comes to this stuff and really just want to be told what to do with inspiring stories, but that's not what this book promises so I won't dock it, it's just my personal preference。I will, however, for my own review purposes, bullet out the summary of the author's research (listed out towards the end of the book, with more info under each bullet)。 I think, in all, this mimics a lot of what I've read from Dean Ornish, with the exception of fat content (Ornish tries to limit it greatly), and the emphasis here on lowering proteins。 That being said, here's the summary:1。 Eat a mostly vegan diet with some fish (2-3 meals per week)2。 Consume low but sufficient proteins3。 Minimize bad fast and sugars, maximize good fats and complex carbs4。 Be nourished5。 Eat at the table of your ancestors6。 Eat twice a day plus a snack7。 Time-restricted eating8。 Periodic prolonged fasting-mimicking dietsFasting-mimicking diet (very trimmed down summary):Day 1: 1,100 calories- 500 from veggie carbs- 500 from healthy fats (nuts, oil)- 25g plant-based protein (mostly nuts)Day 2-5: 800 calories- 400 from veggie carbs- 400 from healthy fats (nuts, oil)All:- a multivitamin- omega 3/6 supplement- tea (3-4 cups, unsweetened)- Unlimited waterExercise:1。 Walk fast for an hour a day2。 Try to walk and take stairs as much as possible3。 Add vigorous exercise for 2。5 hours a week4。 Participate in regular resistance trainingAgain, for anybody reading this I've removed a lot of detail in these bullets because I simply didn't need that for my own notes, but much detail is given in the book and I may not have even done these bullet points justice, they are my own interpretations。 。。。more

I find it so interesting to read books about ways to improve my health。 I must admit that I am hoping that they are more saying what the author reports his father does ( eat some chocolate) than what the author is saying about fasting。 I found the information on diseases and his scientific research fascinating。

I have a lot of questions and skepticism about this diet and the associated research。 The diet does not make intuitive sense to me and goes against much of what I've figured out on my own and from other research over the years。 I did find his idea of eating according to your ancestry to be interesting。 I have a lot of questions and skepticism about this diet and the associated research。 The diet does not make intuitive sense to me and goes against much of what I've figured out on my own and from other research over the years。 I did find his idea of eating according to your ancestry to be interesting。 。。。more

An amateurish first book by a veteran researcher。 I found the science intriguing but the book had lots of unnecessary filler。 Some specific criticisms1。 Why have five pillars? The last one in particular seems tacked on。 I forget what he called it but it’s basically saying you could explain something in simple mechanical terms like an engine。 I would just have one pillar what does science say。2。 His longevity diet is specifically two meals with a snack。 In the meal plan section there’s always the An amateurish first book by a veteran researcher。 I found the science intriguing but the book had lots of unnecessary filler。 Some specific criticisms1。 Why have five pillars? Very interesting topic。 Will definitely read more about this in the years to come。

Most science-backed book on longevity I have read。 Debunked for me myths like lots of protein is important and IMF 16:8 is great (risky + risk of gallstones) and explained why breakfast is important after all (lower cardiovascular risk), highlighted (indirectly) issues of keto diet and gives practical advice what to eat (veggies, olive oil, complex carbs + 2x week low mercury Fish)。Found this superior to David sinclairs book as way more evidence based across multiple pillars - eg Metformin might Most science-backed book on longevity I have read。 Debunked for me myths like lots of protein is important and IMF 16:8 is great (risky + risk of gallstones) and explained why breakfast is important after all (lower cardiovascular risk), highlighted (indirectly) issues of keto diet and gives practical advice what to eat (veggies, olive oil, complex carbs + 2x week low mercury Fish)。Found this superior to David sinclairs book as way more evidence based across multiple pillars - eg Metformin might be dangerous for non diabetics in the longterm 。。。more

Really compelling research but only works if you can follow basically a Mediterranean diet。 For someone with legume and soy allergies, there’s no working offered solution。 Which is limiting。

Longo has dedicated much of his life to researching longevity, and his work on fasting is of particular note。 Increasingly there's a consensus that fasting helps the body live healthier and longer in ways that were never understood until recently。 Longo also outlines some practical measures for conducting a safe and health fast。 Longo has dedicated much of his life to researching longevity, and his work on fasting is of particular note。 Increasingly there's a consensus that fasting helps the body live healthier and longer in ways that were never understood until recently。 Longo also outlines some practical measures for conducting a safe and health fast。 。。。more

Dr Longo is the guru behind the trending Prolon fasting diet。 In here, he talks about his 25 year research on the benefits of fasting and the science behind it。 Besides the weight loss, his studies show reduction of inflammation, aging, and improvement on your immune system。 I have done two rounds of his Prolon program so far, and I was surprised how doable it was and not get hungry on such little food。 So yes, the plan works if your main concern is to jump start on your weight loss or do a clea Dr Longo is the guru behind the trending Prolon fasting diet。 In here, he talks about his 25 year research on the benefits of fasting and the science behind it。 Besides the weight loss, his studies show reduction of inflammation, aging, and improvement on your immune system。 I have done two rounds of his Prolon program so far, and I was surprised how doable it was and not get hungry on such little food。 So yes, the plan works if your main concern is to jump start on your weight loss or do a cleanse(I much prefer this program to the other popular plant based diet Sakara)。I’m rating it 3 stars because even though his plan works, it’s not revolutionary。 He is a proponent of following the Mediterranean and some form of macrobiotic diet。 For healthy people who are familiar with these two diet regimens, it comes down to portion control and being mindful of your intake of protein。 I think people who want to try this regimen mainly to lose weight can find a less expensive option online。 For me,I needed the motivation and it worked。 。。。more

Fasting has been around for a long time, and while Longo has some interesting research data to share, the book was a challenge for me to finish。 I wanted to like this but it became repetitive and dismisses some good common sense such as eat in moderation。 I would recommend saving the $ and get the book from the library as much of the info is essentially regurgitating the Mediterranean diet。

Im glad I'm learning about this diet & research while I'm still young! Anyone that has gotten past the basic "you should avoid processed foods and sugar" and are looking at refining what they are doing。 The information here might be too high level for someone trying to get the basics。 If your issue is Obesity or diabetes, read Jason Fung。 If you want general health guidelines, read Mark Sisson。 If you want latest biohacking on longevity, read Dave Asprey。 And if you can't control your processed food and sugar consumption no matter what you have researched, read Susan Peirce Thompson。 。。。more
