This book was amazing。  THe story was interesting, the characters were well developed and the romance was very cute。 Marcus and Honoria were so cute, and the brothers best friends story is so common, but this one is definitely worth the read!!!! I have probably read about 5-7 books by Julia Quinn and she honestly has a way with the old timey, classic romances。  I’ve enjoyed all of her books and I look forward to reading the rest。

HonoriaHonoriaHonoria That is pretty much the jist of the book。 The love interest Marcus just saying her name over and over。 I love me a good historical romance and this book is just not it。

Sweet but needed more chaptersI love ty is universe Quinn has created。 However I also wish she would have given us a bit more length in order to lend more detail and burn to their romance。 I had a little whip lash since a lot of the love formed while he was feverish and unable to participate。 I wanted more scenes of them as children and of them circling one another at balls etc。 I just wanted more as both MCs were excellent, if left a little wanting。

LovelyOne more addictive visit back in time to witness another beautiful story of two people falling in love with each other。 You know the ending but it’s the journey which is the delight。

Brother's best friend caretaking romance UM YES PLEASE。 I think everyone is obsessed with Julia Quinn at the moment and I'm so glad that I've decided to start reading her backlist。 This follows the girls from the infamous Smythe-Smith quartet (who as you may or may not know are horrendous at music。。。)Basically this is all about Marcus and Honoria - he's her older brother's best friend and they run into each other years later。 It's so CUTE watching them fall in love and just trying to deny their Brother's best friend caretaking romance UM YES PLEASE。 I think everyone is obsessed with Julia Quinn at the moment and I'm so glad that I've decided to start reading her backlist。 This follows the girls from the infamous Smythe-Smith quartet (who as you may or may not know are horrendous at music。。。)Basically this is all about Marcus and Honoria - he's her older brother's best friend and they run into each other years later。 It's so CUTE watching them fall in love and just trying to deny their feelings。。。ESPECIALLY since Honoria drops EVERYTHING to go and take care of Marcus when he gets really sick。 The caretaking is just。。。。 chef's kiss。 And yes, there is definitely sufficient angst in this book !!! I absolutely LOVE this book! What an incredible way to start my Julia Quinn journey。 This book does two things really well that I typically dislike: childhood friends to adult lovers and sickbed。 My gosh this was the perfect read! And the musicale stuff is delightful。 Brilliant all around。

"Talvez você seja meu porto seguro。"Ai que saudades dos romances de época。 Gosto bastante da escrita da Julia e Simplesmente o paraíso entrou para a listinha de favoritos dela。 Amei o quarteto, a amizade da Honoria com as primas, e pude entender o motivo das apresentações desastrosas: o carinho que as meninas tem pela família! O romance é bem desenvolvido e muito divertido, é lindo ver a amizade do casal, a cumplicidade entre eles。 Marcus e Honoria me conquistaram! This was just fine for me。 I thought it started out strong, but ultimately there wasn’t enough time to fully develop the romance between Honoria and Marcus bc Marcus spent a good chunk of this book pretty much unconscious。 As much as I love the “nursing back to health” trope, that part of the story went on for way too long IMO。 I also felt like the story focused on the whole Smythe-Smith musicale rehearsals/performance a bit too much as well。 The romance almost felt like a secondary plot to ever This was just fine for me。 I thought it started out strong, but ultimately there wasn’t enough time to fully develop the romance between Honoria and Marcus bc Marcus spent a good chunk of this book pretty much unconscious。 As much as I love the “nursing back to health” trope, that part of the story went on for way too long IMO。 I also felt like the story focused on the whole Smythe-Smith musicale rehearsals/performance a bit too much as well。 The romance almost felt like a secondary plot to everything else going on in this book bc of this。 。。。more

I actually didn't like Honoria。 And every friend group has its Honoria。 It's like a requirement or something。 She's the one that basically spoils all the fun and puts the kibosh on your plans of a day-drinking adventure, then guilts everyone into volunteering their Saturday to help her put together craft kits for her Vacation Bible School class。 She's that bitch that you're suposed to like because she's so goddamn nice, but really you avoid being alone with her because getting stuck in a convers I actually didn't like Honoria。 And every friend group has its Honoria。 It's like a requirement or something。 She's the one that basically spoils all the fun and puts the kibosh on your plans of a day-drinking adventure, then guilts everyone into volunteering their Saturday to help her put together craft kits for her Vacation Bible School class。 She's that bitch that you're suposed to like because she's so goddamn nice, but really you avoid being alone with her because getting stuck in a conversation with a goody-goody is like its own ring of hell。Ok, so for those of you who have never read a Julia Quinn novel, the Smythe-Smith Quartet is a well-known group。 This family has a long standing tradition of a musical made up of 4 unmarried Smythe-Smith girls。 And it is always awful。 A few of the girls are intelligent enough to realize that most of the people come out of pity, but most of the girls are completely unaware that their annual performance is a torture worse than death。Now two of Honoria's cousins were completely mortified to have to play this year。 Both were willing to do almost anything to get out of it, including faking illness and considering marriage to old men。Honoria was proud to be in it because she felt like it was a family tradition and she was determined to smile like a lunatic and pretend to be thrilled to be there。 Because she's so nice。Fine。 But even after she was openly mocked and humiliated at one of the concerts, and even after seeing how much of a negative impact it had on her cousins, she was STILL happily planning to put her as-of-yet unborn daughter up on the stage when she gets to be the right age。Are。 You。 Kidding。 Me?!However, Honoria and Marcus were a perfect couple。 They'd known each other since they were children, had already formed a friendship, then they figured out they love-loved each other after she cleaned out the festering wound she inadvertently caused on his leg and nursed him back to health。Very nice。 I'm quite happy for them。 Really。The story itself was sweet and cute。But we will never be friends, Honoria! 。。。more

3 and a half starsAfter i was done with the high of reading the first Bridgerton book, I was afraid to take another one from the series immediately after, but having loved Ms。Quinn's voice, wanted something by her, and that's how I happened upon this。 It was a charming little story, the portions involving nursing our male lead back to health were too real to belong in a love story, nonetheless, it was different in a welcome way。 The portions involving the Smythe-Smith sisters and their musicals 3 and a half starsAfter i was done with the high of reading the first Bridgerton book, I was afraid to take another one from the series immediately after, but having loved Ms。Quinn's voice, wanted something by her, and that's how I happened upon this。 It was a charming little story, the portions involving nursing our male lead back to health were too real to belong in a love story, nonetheless, it was different in a welcome way。 The portions involving the Smythe-Smith sisters and their musicals were too damn funny and provides great relief against some of the harder scenes involving the male lead's injury。 Just thinking about it makes me smile widely。 。。。more

My only real complaint is this was a little quick to resolve。。。 seemed like there needed to be another chapter or two at the end。

Meh, I really liked the two main characters but then I got to the end and I realized just how empty this book felt。 It just wasn't。。。dramatic enough。 And then when it did get to the supposed dramatic scene it just made me feel pissed off。 But I enjoyed it and it's the first book I've finished in about three weeks。 I don't know if it got me completely out of my slump but it's a start。 Meh, I really liked the two main characters but then I got to the end and I realized just how empty this book felt。 It just wasn't。。。dramatic enough。 And then when it did get to the supposed dramatic scene it just made me feel pissed off。 But I enjoyed it and it's the first book I've finished in about three weeks。 I don't know if it got me completely out of my slump but it's a start。 。。。more

Such a happy book to read! Back again with the incorrigible Smythe-Smith quartet and Honoria is on the shelf with a pull date! Love the brisk dialog and the utter challenges Honoria faces on her way towards a proposal。

Wendy

A predictable story with little sex or even sexual tension。 What else do you need to know?

Kathryn

Funny and light 。 Perfect

There is something about the way Julia Quinn writes that warms my heart。 I thoroughly enjoy reading this book。 I love how humor isn't just confined to banter between characters, and the entire book is a delight。 The story wasn't extraordinary, but there was nothing banal about it either。 There is something about the way Julia Quinn writes that warms my heart。 I thoroughly enjoy reading this book。 I love how humor isn't just confined to banter between characters, and the entire book is a delight。 The story wasn't extraordinary, but there was nothing banal about it either。 。。。more

This has to be one of my new fav historical romances! It made me smile and laugh, it was actually really funny! I loved Honoria and Marcus as characters, as well as their relationship。 They had such great chemistry and their banter was so fun。 It was so sweet to see them both realizing their feelings and trying to figure out what to do about it。I honestly can’t wait to keep reading in this series, the characters, even the supporting ones, are so lovable。 Julia Quinn does it again!

It's a solid 2。5 star。Not my best Julia Quinn, by far。Bonus points for :- the Smythe-Smith quartet moments (it's why I bought the books!)- the moments at the end when I laughed out loud at how the story was written- The Bridgerton fan service and especially, Lady Danbury。On the minus side :- tooooooo sloooooooow。 Nothing happens in this book。 Could resume the story in 3 sentences。- the sex scene at the end was rushed and felt completely out of character。 I prefer no sex scene at all (gasp!) than It's a solid 2。5 star。Not my best Julia Quinn, by far。Bonus points for :- the Smythe-Smith quartet moments (it's why I bought the books!)- the moments at the end when I laughed out loud at how the story was written- The Bridgerton fan service and especially, Lady Danbury。On the minus side :- tooooooo sloooooooow。 Nothing happens in this book。 Could resume the story in 3 sentences。- the sex scene at the end was rushed and felt completely out of character。 I prefer no sex scene at all (gasp!) than a lame, weird, 2 page, "service" scene。I will probably not read the following books。 。。。more

Emma Turner

A fluffy and generic historical romance。

Kerry

It would be hard not to like Marcus and Honoria。

Jill

Love Julia Quinn books。 I enjoy that characters are in other series of hers。

Lovely romance! It was a joyful, happy book, and I loved it! The hero and heroine were people you really liked and hoped they would have a happy ending。

This is probably my favorite Julia Quinn book now! Also I adore the return of Lady Danbury。 This was so cute, funny, and I loved it。

So funny! And fantastically fun characters。 I enjoyed this one immensely, even if the plot is ultimately thin。 The mole hole, medical, and laudanum stuff was hilarious。

I tried, but just so pointless。 The prologue to this book was fascinating, I was so excited about the book when I read it。 Even the first few chapters were pretty entertaining and I thought I had something good going but it just never took off。 No emotional attachment to the characters or their story。 Boring。 What is with the pages and pages of “musicale rehearsal?” I’m finding maybe this type of historical romance is not my thing。 Darn。

Normally, when I think of regency romance novels, I think of high drama, bad communication, misunderstandings, and reformed rogues。 Most of the time, it seems that some of the authors use this time period specifically because the social constrictions of the day leave ample opportunity for these kinds of misunderstandings to happen。 This book had none of those。 This is more of a friends to lovers type story, and although it was a decent one, it just left me feeling very meh。 There was a small Bri Normally, when I think of regency romance novels, I think of high drama, bad communication, misunderstandings, and reformed rogues。 Most of the time, it seems that some of the authors use this time period specifically because the social constrictions of the day leave ample opportunity for these kinds of misunderstandings to happen。 This book had none of those。 This is more of a friends to lovers type story, and although it was a decent one, it just left me feeling very meh。 There was a small Bridgerton crossover, but before it could come to anything, it was already over。 。。。more

I started reading Julia Quinn this year in order to binge read the Bridgerton series after watching the Netflix show。 Overall, I thought they were amusing and some were better than others。The Smyth0Smith series is far, far better written and more amusing for the reader。 How can we help but sympathize?
