Summary

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a murder mystery novel like no other。 The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone。 Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism。 He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings。 He loves lists, patterns and the truth。 He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched。 He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down。

This novel is a very enjoyable read。 It is uniquely refreshing to adopt the world view and perspective of a person with Asperger's syndrome。 I found it "laugh out loud" funny in many places。 Highly recommended。 This novel is a very enjoyable read。 It is uniquely refreshing to adopt the world view and perspective of a person with Asperger's syndrome。 I found it "laugh out loud" funny in many places。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

Very cute and honestly somewhat sad。 Despite being a mystery novel about who killed Wellington (the dog), it was so much more than that, delving into family drama。 I also liked Christopher’s viewpoint as he described living with Autism as accurately as possible。

Such an easy read and I was in Christopher’s head during the entire journey。 Funny little read。

THIS BOOK WAS REALLY GOOD。 it was honestly very funny and entertaining aswell as kinda sad, when I read it yesterday I couldn’t put it down I had to finish it because it was THAT good and I really enjoyed it, I really really liked it and recommended !!

Lucy Jones

Such a unique style to be written from the perspective of a boy on the autism spectrum。 Eye opening and intriguing throughout。

Nathalie

Would read again。 Loses it plot towards the end。

In some ways my dislike of this book is a little unfair, because in many ways it’s rooted in how people perceive and talk about this book and it’s portrayal of autism as being some sort of eye-opening primer of what it’s like to be autistic, when the author is not autistic himself, and the book shows a very stereotypical view of autism, including harmful stereotypes like not experiencing empathy。 Enjoy the book for what it is (fiction from an allistic author), but please please please then spend In some ways my dislike of this book is a little unfair, because in many ways it’s rooted in how people perceive and talk about this book and it’s portrayal of autism as being some sort of eye-opening primer of what it’s like to be autistic, when the author is not autistic himself, and the book shows a very stereotypical view of autism, including harmful stereotypes like not experiencing empathy。 Enjoy the book for what it is (fiction from an allistic author), but please please please then spend some time reading about what it’s like to be autistic from people who are actually autistic themselves。 We’re just tired of being spoken for and over, even if it’s well-meaning (And on that note, please avoid resources from Autism Speaks, and patronize organizations like Autism Self Advocacy Network instead) 。。。more

An insightful and worthwhile read。

Really fast paced and the plot moved forward quite fast。Despite not enjoying it the most, I felt compelled to continue to find out what happened to the characters。 Being autistic myself, I can see some things that I can relate to, but a lot of things I cant。 Each autistic person is different and so having more books with autistic characters is good, because each person can relate to different aspects, and other can see that each autistic person is an individual。

I have never asked myself what am I reading more than throughout the course of this book。 In a similar vein to the popular K drama move to heaven, telling this story through the perspective of an autistic boy leads to the emphasis being given to the small everyday things that most people often don't think twice about。To be honest however, unlike move to heaven, the choice of the main character having autism seems to serve more as a gimmick rather than create greater emotional empathy, it really I have never asked myself what am I reading more than throughout the course of this book。 In a similar vein to the popular K drama move to heaven, telling this story through the perspective of an autistic boy leads to the emphasis being given to the small everyday things that most people often don't think twice about。To be honest however, unlike move to heaven, the choice of the main character having autism seems to serve more as a gimmick rather than create greater emotional empathy, it really doesn't leave a lasting impression besides a feeling of weirdness。 。。。more

I love the storyline and the way that you ought to see exactly how he thought。 But it had way too much cursing and the f word all the time and using the Lord's name in vain so overall I wouldn't recommend it to other LDS friends。 I love the storyline and the way that you ought to see exactly how he thought。 But it had way too much cursing and the f word all the time and using the Lord's name in vain so overall I wouldn't recommend it to other LDS friends。 。。。more

Personally, this book just made me to anxious and sad。 I understand that's it's from the point of view of a severly autistic child, but after about 50 pages of it I couldn't help just feeling sad for the boy。 It's not fair the struggles people can be born with。 Well written with a good plot, just personally to much for me。 Personally, this book just made me to anxious and sad。 I understand that's it's from the point of view of a severly autistic child, but after about 50 pages of it I couldn't help just feeling sad for the boy。 It's not fair the struggles people can be born with。 Well written with a good plot, just personally to much for me。 。。。more

Curious story written from the perspective of a15 year old autistic boy trying to solve a mystery and make sense of the world。 I liked it, but it has a lot of bad language。

Hilarious, inspiring, and touching, this book brings you deep inside the cognitive processes of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorders。 ASD-related characteristics such as systematisation, hypersensitivity, and unique social-communication and emotional behaviours are portrayed in Christopher。 Overall, the book celebrates Christopher’s Mathematics and logical capabilities, thereby arguing for greater acceptance and inclusion of children with special needs。

It’s a fantastic poignant book that is also funny。 It’s an interesting perspective。 I enjoyed it very much。

Nancy Devlin

very interestingI liked the premise of the book and the authors writing style。 After awhile, it got kind of boring。 I guess i expected something more substantial。 But it did have a good ending but again, very basic plot。 It was interesting how it was written from the point of view of a person with autism。 He may have had challenges but he was brilliant in math。

Grace Johnson

this is a classic “grade 12 english class book” and like most grade 12 english class books 。。。 it’s not very good。 but, as i had stolen a copy from my english teacher last year, i felt it was my duty to finish it。 it was just boring and although i could appreciate the character himself, i didn’t really cate about the story at all。 (half read half audiobook)

Meredith Endres

Beautifully written。 Wonderful window into the way different minds work and a great advocate for empathy。

Ruby Kathryn

I loved this!!! so interesting!

A must read! I read it for the third time and I still love it as much。 Although I didn't understand all the math problems it contained, haha。 But I'm not at all bothered by this, considering the fact that Christopher is ridiculously smart。 :) A must read!

Mark Haddon those a great job with this book by opening the question about how Aspergers is。 Personally I know I lack the knowledge for this topic since I have never had contact with someone with this syndrome and the research I have done about this topic is minimal。While reading this book Haddon does a great job by writing this book by the point of view of someone with this syndrome。 This takes out the barrier of what people think and instead allows you to walk the shoes of someone that has it。 Mark Haddon those a great job with this book by opening the question about how Aspergers is。 Personally I know I lack the knowledge for this topic since I have never had contact with someone with this syndrome and the research I have done about this topic is minimal。While reading this book Haddon does a great job by writing this book by the point of view of someone with this syndrome。 This takes out the barrier of what people think and instead allows you to walk the shoes of someone that has it。 I believe this is a great book that people should read。 。。。more

This is a most curious and peculiar novel。 Quirky。 I hesitate to say it is a fun read, because some of the issues explored are difficult。 I recommend this as an interesting and unique read, well worth the time。

An insightful look into the life of an autistic boy (written from his perspective)。 Mostly light-hearted。 Good for teens and adults。
