Summary

2018 Reprint of 1919 Edition。 Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was a prophet of the electronic age。 His research laid much of the groundwork for modern electrical and communication systems, and his impressive accomplishments include development of the alternating-current electrical system, radio, the Tesla coil transformer, wireless transmission, and fluorescent lighting。 Tesla's research was so groundbreaking that many of his contemporaries failed to understand it, and other scientists are unjustly credited for his innovations。 The visionary scientist speaks for himself in this volume, originally published in 1919 as a six-part series in Electrical Experimenter magazine。 Tesla recounts his boyhood in Croatia, his schooling and work in Europe, his collaboration with Thomas Edison, and his subsequent research。 Written with wit and lan, this memoir offers fascinating insights into one of the great minds of modern science。 Chapters include: My Early Life; My First Efforts In Inventions; My Later Endeavors: The Discovery of the Rotating Magnetic Field and The Discovery of the Tesla Coil and Transformer; The Magnifying Transmitter; The Art of Telautomatics。

Anything by Nikola Tesla is 5-stars, although this autobiography is interesting in a lot of ways。 The book is very self-promotional, but it's also probably realistic -- Tesla was an exceptional man。 He has some good accounts of his childhood (barred from reading books by candlelight by his father, he snuck into the library and read using his own handmade candles。。。), unique way of thinking (visualization and model manipulation in his head), early commercial exploits as a consultant, and interact Anything by Nikola Tesla is 5-stars, although this autobiography is interesting in a lot of ways。 The book is very self-promotional, but it's also probably realistic -- Tesla was an exceptional man。 He has some good accounts of his childhood (barred from reading books by candlelight by his father, he snuck into the library and read using his own handmade candles。。。), unique way of thinking (visualization and model manipulation in his head), early commercial exploits as a consultant, and interactions with far lesser people in industry。 It's sad that his world system, which might have worked (or might have accomplished less than he expected), never got built due to his lack of resources/lack of success in working with businesspeople。This book is definitely not objective, and probably not comprehensive, but I don't know of a better book about Tesla (written by an engineer/scientist like himself)。 。。。more

One of most incredible people who ever lived on earth。

This forgotten genius who would have catapulted the world by one thousand years into the future, if his inventions had not been suppressed, deserves more attention, and his writings should be mandatory in all schools throughout the world。

Although the technical aspects of the various inventions and discoveries outlined are currently over my head, I benefited tremendously from Tesla’s highlighted robust imagination and work ethic。

A very interesting glimpse into the mind and thinking of this genius whose thinking and foresight was far ahead of the time in which he lived。 In the late 19th century and early 20th century, he envisioned wireless technology through sound and light waves that, when perfected, would project human voices as well as images across the globe。 I also found his theological speculations as well as his theory of mind (although he didn't refer to it as such) to be very interesting。 A very interesting glimpse into the mind and thinking of this genius whose thinking and foresight was far ahead of the time in which he lived。 In the late 19th century and early 20th century, he envisioned wireless technology through sound and light waves that, when perfected, would project human voices as well as images across the globe。 I also found his theological speculations as well as his theory of mind (although he didn't refer to it as such) to be very interesting。 。。。more

Looks like he had some super powers, with his visualization skills。 Not fair! :D

Some things Tesla writes about remain difficult to explain, others clash with a current scientific understanding of nature。 Regardless, this remains an important work that tells us more about his extraordinary life。

4。5 stars。This was a very interesting book。 Tesla was indeed a brilliant inventor and scientist, and after reading this book I can see how his brilliant mind, discipline, and vision made him build and imagine a world where wireless transmission of energy and flying devices would make significant improvements in the development of systems to make life better for humankind。 While reading this book, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking how he would feel about seeing someone reading his own book in 4。5 stars。This was a very interesting book。 Tesla was indeed a brilliant inventor and scientist, and after reading this book I can see how his brilliant mind, discipline, and vision made him build and imagine a world where wireless transmission of energy and flying devices would make significant improvements in the development of systems to make life better for humankind。 While reading this book, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking how he would feel about seeing someone reading his own book in an electronic device and then writing a review about it on an intelligent telephone and being able to share with a community through a wireless form of transmission, just like he had envisioned。。。 I also appreciate his vision of how inventions and science should be used for making the lives of millions better, and as tools to better administer the government and communications。 。。。more

Tesla is one of my favourite scientists and this books it's funny and visionary as he was。 He was really a great mind and if you know his personality you should read this book。 It's simple and cool! Brings about the inventor in everyone。 It's fascinating to delve into the mind of one of the greatest and eccentric inventors the world has ever seen。 Nikola Tesla was truly a man of the future, and a miracle of nature。 His ideas about wireless technology, although having implemented differently, have truly changed the world, in as magnificent a way that he had predicted。 One's natural inclination should match passionate desire - one of the greatest truths ever told。 Coming to the flow of the na Brings about the inventor in everyone。 It's fascinating to delve into the mind of one of the greatest and eccentric inventors the world has ever seen。 Nikola Tesla was truly a man of the future, and a miracle of nature。 His ideas about wireless technology, although having implemented differently, have truly changed the world, in as magnificent a way that he had predicted。 One's natural inclination should match passionate desire - one of the greatest truths ever told。 Coming to the flow of the narrative in the book, the initial chapters are quite exciting。 The later chapters, with more references to electrical jargon and implements, would be better understood with a basic understanding of the subject as well as the current representations of the technology of that time。 A contemporary commentary to every chapter would've been of great help。 。。。more

This has been very, very interesting。 A book written by an undisputed genius in his very own words。I must say this book was a surprise。 I was expecting lots of technical detail, but instead the book was filled with lots of interesting stories and insightful social comments。 Some of the stories were even hilarious。

I wanted to like this book but it was all over the place with little actual substance of any kind。I did enjoy the brief glimpses into Tesla and the world at that time。

Not much to learnI thought I would extract some wisdom from this book, but it shows that Tesla was a born genius。。WTF what can an average person striving for greatness can learn from this?

Amazing book from an extraordinary inventor, nothing beats they joy in this read less than knowing that it will end in the last page。 The only take on this book is that is doesn’t have a single drawing or plan。

I can't remember when I read this - it was probably 2 decades ago。 Anyway, one thing I found interesting is that Tesla thought that schools could teach engineers to think like he did。 I can't remember when I read this - it was probably 2 decades ago。 Anyway, one thing I found interesting is that Tesla thought that schools could teach engineers to think like he did。 。。。more

This short autobiography by one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever, contains several implicit and one explicit message to mankind。 In fact, these are much more relevant now than in his time。He was a futurist, a creator of disruptive technologies and the true father of radio, telephone, cell phones, television and even drones。

When people talk about great American inventors, the name Thomas Edison always emerges first, and rightfully so。 Yet, there was one man that could have challenged Edison if he would have had significant financial backing。 That person was Nikola Tesla, not only was he an incredible inventor he was also a futurist。 This book is a brief autobiography of his life and work。 For example, in 1898, Tesla demonstrated a remote controlled boat and tried to sell it to the U。 S。 military in order to remot When people talk about great American inventors, the name Thomas Edison always emerges first, and rightfully so。 Yet, there was one man that could have challenged Edison if he would have had significant financial backing。 That person was Nikola Tesla, not only was he an incredible inventor he was also a futurist。 This book is a brief autobiography of his life and work。 For example, in 1898, Tesla demonstrated a remote controlled boat and tried to sell it to the U。 S。 military in order to remotely control torpedoes。 They showed little interest, once again illustrating that the military is rarely futuristic in thought。 One can engage in fascinating speculation about an attack of enemy trenches in the western front in Europe being carried out by remote controlled bombs。 Such as attack being carried out by machines instead of waves of men attacking machine guns could have led to major victories。 Tesla used the term “telautomata” to refer to the machines he envisioned, including the ability to launch the equivalent of guided missiles against an enemy。 This is the subject of the last pages of the book。 Tesla was subject to periodic bouts of major illness and he chronicles those episodes。 He does spend time describing his inventions, but the reader is left wanting far more。 One key omission is the personal animosity between Edison and Tesla。 Tesla, while he was a futurist, was also a first-rate electrical and mechanical engineer, so he had some idea as to how the telautomata machines would be constructed。 One never knows how far he could have gone or what the consequences for history would have been if Tesla would have been given more support。 This is a good, but far too short book about the life of Nikola Tesla, one of the most talented inventors the world has ever seen。 。。。more

Well, I enjoyed the book。 Tesla did have a great mind。 That being said alot of the things he said are seemingly improbable。 After reading the book I felt like he did have some undiagnosed mental condition (i mean the guy had 2 breakdowns), maybe that explains his great imagination,

A very clever book, Nikola Tesla was quite the genius。 I believe it was worth reading just to understand how one of the fathers of modern science thinks and feels about certain subjects。

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was indeed a light lecture, but I would recommend it only to people that are fairly interested in science and electricity because it has a lot of concepts that need a certain amount of knowledge in this field to be understood。 Furthermore I think this book really shows how Tesla was ahead of his time and we need to cherish everything that this great mind left to our world。P。S This is a perfect book for nonfiction nerds :)
