Summary

Here is a novel, glamorous, ironical, compassionate – a marvelous fusion into unity of the curious incongruities of the life of the period – which reveals a hero like no other – one who could live at no other time and in no other place。 But he will live as a character, we surmise, as long as the memory of any reader lasts。

It is the story of this Jay Gatsby who came so mysteriously to West Egg, of his sumptuous entertainments, and of his love for Daisy Buchanan – a story that ranges from pure lyrical beauty to sheer brutal realism, and is infused with a sense of the strangeness of human circumstance in a heedless universe。

It is a magical, living book, blended of irony, romance, and mysticism。

Absolutely a brilliant classic , great for a quick read。 It could’ve shown the background on Daisy and Gatsby’s relationship a but more , but there was a great story in general and plenty of good quotes。

When I read this book I was taken aback in relation to how amazingly well this book was written。 Personally when I am looking for the ideal book I don't find myself reaching for classics, but when I read this novel I really found myself enjoying it! A missed opportunity to a true master piece!Reasonably Allowing for the different epochs, if a nameless writer brought me this story to read for the first time I would give it back to him/her and say: it has potential but needs further development。 You tell me everything that happens。 I want to experience it。 I think he rushed through it and scrambled its potential。 The idea of such broken love story is amazing but the book doesn't hit the mark。 A lot of missed potential。 He could have gone much A missed opportunity to a true master piece!Reasonably Allowing for the different epochs, if a nameless writer brought me this story to read for the first time I would give it back to him/her and say: it has potential but needs further development。 You tell me everything that happens。 I want to experience it。 I think he rushed through it and scrambled its potential。 The idea of such broken love story is amazing but the book doesn't hit the mark。 A lot of missed potential。 He could have gone much deeper and made it a page Turner。 Is overall bn boring and leave the reader expecting more。 。。。more

This book was ok。 I wish I could have read it for school so I had a teacher explain some of the metaphors and language。 I want to read it again when I’m older so that I might be able to understand it。 The writing was amazing, I just wish I understood the storyline a little better。

the prose in this book is absolutely exquisite。 the descriptions may seem a bit flowery & lengthy but if you can appreciate it then i think this would be a really enjoyable read。 there are so many themes & messages interwoven into the story。 and the symbolism。 honestly i have to say that the symbolism is one of my favourite features of this entire book。 (view spoiler)[(the green light!) So we drove on toward death through the cooling twilight。” 。。。more

wow, I didn’t think I would enjoy this because I am such a fantasy reader but this was actually beautiful。 I don’t know anybody who I can talk to about the characters and everyone really chooses which character they like but I really love Nick and Gatsby。 Gatsbys character was so well written and interesting and he was so crazy I really loved him。 The entirety of this book was just a story basically and was very explanatory, but the last few chapters really made up for it。 The entire beginning o wow, I didn’t think I would enjoy this because I am such a fantasy reader but this was actually beautiful。 I don’t know anybody who I can talk to about the characters and everyone really chooses which character they like but I really love Nick and Gatsby。 Gatsbys character was so well written and interesting and he was so crazy I really loved him。 The entirety of this book was just a story basically and was very explanatory, but the last few chapters really made up for it。 The entire beginning of the book and how basic it was really made you attached to a few of the characters and really made you understand every character well enough that the ending was just impactful I guess? Hey, this is actually quite a good book, for what it is。 The stars are how it affects me, and despite the greatness that is "The Great Gatsby" the novel was not exactly the kind of reading that has great meaning for me。 I will get to the writing in a bit, but suffice to say I did not care about the characters。 The writing though。 Here is a calculated presentation。 The whole of the novel comes across as a story told verbally by a very gifted speaker。 That it was initially not a commercial success Hey, this is actually quite a good book, for what it is。 The stars are how it affects me, and despite the greatness that is "The Great Gatsby" the novel was not exactly the kind of reading that has great meaning for me。 I will get to the writing in a bit, but suffice to say I did not care about the characters。 The writing though。 Here is a calculated presentation。 The whole of the novel comes across as a story told verbally by a very gifted speaker。 That it was initially not a commercial success does not surprise me。 It is short though, and a short book has a chance of being read by many who would not attempt a bigger more encompassing story。 While in the story it flows very well, and there is enough sexual innuendo to back up the love story。 I was quite impressed with the writing and presentation, there is genius there。I have resisted reading this book for years though。 I saw the movie in a drunken haze and was not impressed。 The book is on every "greatest book ever" and "books you have to read before you die" list。 I put it off and I think the hype ruined the book, despite it being a marvel of presentation。 I think an odd thing is that there are many parts of the life of Gatsby that Fitzgerald actually lived。 I read that afterward and it strengthened the story for me。 An easy read presented well, yes。 Maybe not one of the greatest books ever。 Just saying。I found an unread copy at the Goodwill for a buck。 The whole of the text is online so there is no need to pay retail。 。。。more

The first six chapters? Boring boring boring。 The last three chapters were quite interesting though。 So I suppose I will give this book 2。5 stars。 I only recommend the last three chapters。 Believe me, you wouldn’t miss anything if you started reading from the middle。
