Summary

"Top grossing gardening book of 2019 in the UK。

"Huw Richards is the future of gardening" (The Guardian)

"This beautifully illustrated book teaches you what to do month-by month in order to have success in the garden"(The Sun)

"Ideal for new allotmenteers and gardeners starting to dabble in growing their own crops" (The English Garden)

In just one raised bed, greenfingered wunderkind Huw Richards shows you how to grow vegetables, organically, abundantly and inexpensively so you have something to harvest every month of the year

Month by month, discover what you need to do and how to do it。 Try becoming more self-sufficient in your allotment, a small garden, or even on a roof terrace。

Everything is explained in clear, photographed steps: building your bed, growing from seed, planting, feeding, and harvesting。 Huw shows how to guarantee early success by starting off young plants on a windowsill。 He suggests what to grow in each part of the bed, and provides alternative vegetables to swap in or out depending on what you like eating。 No-dig gardening methods remove most of the back-breaking work, too。

Veg in One Bed goes beyond the inspiring demonstrations on his YouTube channel "Huw Richards - Grow Food Organically"。 In this book he organises all his ideas and suggestions into a blueprint for growing your own vegetables month by month。 Little growing experience? Only a small space? No matter - with Veg in One Bed, you can still eat food you have grown all through the year。"

March 2021: I am really enjoying this book。 It is very easy to read, the instructions are easy to follow, and the style is relaxed and friendly so I don’t feel intimidated even though I have very little experience of growing vegetables。 This is the first time we have seriously tried to grow a substantial amount of our own food for the year, and we are following the methods outlined in the book to try and maximise our yields and minimise unnecessary work。 We will be dipping in and out of the book March 2021: I am really enjoying this book。 It is very easy to read, the instructions are easy to follow, and the style is relaxed and friendly so I don’t feel intimidated even though I have very little experience of growing vegetables。 This is the first time we have seriously tried to grow a substantial amount of our own food for the year, and we are following the methods outlined in the book to try and maximise our yields and minimise unnecessary work。 We will be dipping in and out of the book every week over the course of the year, checking up on what needs planting/transferring/harvesting as we go along。 。。。more

This is a beautiful and informative gardening book。 Not much of the time of year info would apply to Arizona。 It's more suited to the climate of someplace like Seattle。 However, the general information for growing these vegetables could apply in most places if the prospective gardener little investigation into his own climate。 This is a beautiful and informative gardening book。 Not much of the time of year info would apply to Arizona。 It's more suited to the climate of someplace like Seattle。 However, the general information for growing these vegetables could apply in most places if the prospective gardener little investigation into his own climate。 。。。more

Very easy to understand and well laid out

Simple, easy guide with lots of small tips on how to garden more sustainably as well。 Could be improved with content on companion planting。

Kei

A must-read for anyone learning or interested in gardening。

Great for a beginner, but it's very specific to following what is planted in the guide。 Without following the example bed planner I've still found the book really useful to dip into for info on specific veg when needed。 Great for a beginner, but it's very specific to following what is planted in the guide。 Without following the example bed planner I've still found the book really useful to dip into for info on specific veg when needed。 。。。more

I love this book! As someone who is new to a raised bed, I really appreciated the visuals, the pace, and the encouraging writing。 My only complaint is that I'd love to have learned how to plant more options of veggies。 I'm not much of a tuber or leafy girl。 I love this book! Good outlines and information on why he recommends growing specific crops in a rotation framework, but very little information on how to adapt this to your local growing environment where maybe radishes take 45 days instead of 35。Great idea, but would have like more information on a smaller pool of crops。

As a soon to be beginner gardener, this book is a great resource, even though I'm not in the UK。 It is simply and well explained enough that I am confident it will be easy to adapt to the hotter climate of Portugal。 A great amount of tips and tricks, as well as some plans to get you started towards vegetable paradise。 Can't wait to get my hands in the soil! Seems like a good resource, but it’s British and goes into much more work than I want to do with a garden。

I'd never heard of Huw Richards until I got my own allotment and searched YouTube for a few hints and tips and this guy popped up everywhere。 I actually bought and read his frost book; Grow Food For Free first and thoroughly enjoyed it。 This book is along the same lines, where it gives information on sourcing materials and seeds etc for free but it is a step by step guide to giving you plenty of veggies, salads and beans throughout the full year。I loved the simple writing style and step-by-step I'd never heard of Huw Richards until I got my own allotment and searched YouTube for a few hints and tips and this guy popped up everywhere。 I actually bought and read his frost book; Grow Food For Free first and thoroughly enjoyed it。 This book is along the same lines, where it gives information on sourcing materials and seeds etc for free but it is a step by step guide to giving you plenty of veggies, salads and beans throughout the full year。I loved the simple writing style and step-by-step instruction of growing food completely on a single bed! I've learned crop rotation on a miniature scale, how to get things started off on my windowsill after having a panic thinking I needed a greenhouse to get started。 It's all in this one book!I completely recommend this book to any new starters as well as those who have been growing for years。 As with any gardening there is always something new to learn, don't be discouraged if you've always done something a certain way。 The positive feel of this book encourages you to try new things by just giving it a go。I can't wait for Huw to realease another book, it will definitely be on my hit list! 。。。more

Beautifully laid out, sound, well-seasoned, practical advice from a master gardener。 I love this book! I've already ordered Huw's next book, "Grow Food for Free: The Sustainable, Zero-Cost, Low-Effort Way to a Bountiful Harvest," due to come out in March 2020。 Beautifully laid out, sound, well-seasoned, practical advice from a master gardener。 I love this book! Fair enjoyed reading this, although there's not really a huge amount to it and it does feature a bit of repetition。 A neat structure I'd like to follow, with alternative options as well。 I might try several。 I keep referring back to this in fact。 Fair enjoyed reading this, although there's not really a huge amount to it and it does feature a bit of repetition。 A neat structure I'd like to follow, with alternative options as well。 I might try several。 I keep referring back to this in fact。 。。。more
