Summary

In this memoir, David Lynch - co-creator of Twin Peaks and writer and director of groundbreaking films like Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive - opens up about a lifetime of extraordinary creativity, the friendships he has made along the way and the struggles he has faced - sometimes successful, sometimes not - to bring his projects to fruition。

Part-memoir, part-biography, Room to Dream interweaves Lynch's own reflections on his life with the story of those times, as told by Kristine McKenna, drawing from extensive and explosive interviews with ninety of Lynch's friends, family members, actors, agents, musicians and collaborators。 Lynch responds to each recollection and reveals the inner story of the life behind the art。

This is al so darn interesting and makes you want to rewatch all of his films。 Especially Inland Empire。 My advice is to not think too much when watching Lynch his latest and probably last feature film from 2006 and just let it wash over you。

One of the funniest books I've ever read。 The book needs about 300 more pages to flesh it out。 The original Twin Peaks era was skint compared to how much was going on at the time。 One of the funniest books I've ever read。 The book needs about 300 more pages to flesh it out。 The original Twin Peaks era was skint compared to how much was going on at the time。 。。。more

A biography by Kristine McKenna paired with an autobiography by Mr LynchObv worship this man。 I listened to the audiobook because I like to hear the guy speak and it becomes clear eventually that he’s not even reading his portion of the book, he’s ad-libbing it all lol。 So guess I’ll have to actually get the book and look it over。

I’m a massive Lynch fan, so I know this review is biased, but this is one of the best biography/memoirs I can remember reading。 I highly recommend the audio book。

Wowee, Wowee what a book! What。 A。 Book。 Isn’t it grand reading a book about filmaking。 But to read one about filmaking AND David Lynch?! Oh BOY。 What a deee-LIGHT! (I wrote this review pretending David lunch was reading it aloud。 🌿🌿🌿 But seriously try it 😏)I would rarely ever recommend an audio version over the feeling that comes with the smell and touch of psychical paper and hard spine。 BUT with David Lynch reading with collaborator McKenna it is so so worth the audiobook version。

Meh。 As difficult as watching a Lynch film。 Didn't really care to finish it and when I finally realized it put me in a bad mood and/or took me 4 or 5 days to get back to after recouping from the last chapter, I put it down for good。 The format of the audio book is pretty cool as each chapter goes back and forth between the authors, but it becomes a vessel for Lynch to drop names and reinforce his weirdness。 Everybody that works with him loves him -I get it!! He's a visionary -I get it!! Interesting material but it would have been a lot shorter if Lynch didn’t repeat his adjectives all the time。

Entertaining。 The biography portions are full of detail and early on david is full of weird stories you would expect to hear from him。 He seems to lose steam as the book goes on and the stories get shorter and instead turn into pitches for transcendental meditation。

I love Lynch and this book was a joy to read。 Did it give me deep insight into the human mind? No。 Did it give me insight into Lynch? Lovely!Loved reading Lynch's parts the most—read like he's talking directly to you, and I heard it in his voice <3Twin Peaks: The Return is the best piece of art made in my lifetime。 And is a sign of what happens if you are a genius and devote yourself to art for decades。 Pretty sure Jodorowsky's Dune would've turned out the same :) Like, you have to make an incredible TV series, then let its world percolate for years and years afterwards。。。 Laura Palmer says "I'll see you in 25 years" 25 years Lovely!Loved reading Lynch's parts the most—read like he's talking directly to you, and I heard it in his voice <3Twin Peaks: The Return is the best piece of art made in my lifetime。 And is a sign of what happens if you are a genius and devote yourself to art for decades。 Pretty sure Jodorowsky's Dune would've turned out the same :) Like, you have to make an incredible TV series, then let its world percolate for years and years afterwards。。。 Laura Palmer says "I'll see you in 25 years" 25 years ago。。。 What the fuck is Lynch tapped into, honestly!? It's something else。 How did he turn Mulholland Drive, which was supposed to be a TV series, into a self-contained feature film that shows no signs of having ever been anything else!?Seems like he was at times a bit of a dick to women and I don't want to say "such is the art life", I think we're beyond that—but genius or not, he is just a complex, fleshy little human。 The forces of love and addiction and grief and。。。 IDK, gravity, they're bigger than anyone。 If you're lucky enough to have a constitution that can resist these forces throughout your life, you're just that: lucky。 。。。more

。。。more
