Summary

A few years ago, a public/private partnership between the British Government and a multinational company saw five clever people placed in university-owned offices and allowed to do whatever they liked。 It was called the Cultural Cross-Contamination Unit, and the idea was that it would hothouse new thinking and new patents。 Five actual geniuses, all probably crazy, very eccentric, put in one place and given carte blanche to think about ways to approach and change the future。 What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
They did A Crazy Thing, which was referred to as The Injection。 A mysterious Thing that they did in order to make the 21st Century better and stranger。 It got out。 It got loose into the fabric of the 21st Century, whatever it was, and now things are getting weird and ugly, faster and faster。
So a few years have passed。 They've all gone their separate ways, into separate "jobs" that allow them to follow and sometimes deal with the repercussions of The Injection。 We are in the period where the toxic load of The Injection is at such a level that events that are essentially paranormal in nature are coming faster and faster, headed towards a point where humanity won't easily be able to live on the planet any more。 Not a Singularity of glory, but an irretrievable constant blare of horror coming too thick and fast for anything to deal with。
From the creators of Moon Knight: From the Dead: the story of five mad geniuses trying to save us all from themselves。

I'm not sure what to rate this。 It's an intriguing, though somewhat confusing first volume。 There were two different timelines going on and some scenes didn't seem to fully belong to either。 But the premise is really interesting and I'm defintely hooked for the rest of the series。 I'm not sure what to rate this。 It's an intriguing, though somewhat confusing first volume。 There were two different timelines going on and some scenes didn't seem to fully belong to either。 But the premise is really interesting and I'm defintely hooked for the rest of the series。 。。。more

Going in completely blind I quickly began to see the picture they were setting up and I loved it。 Reminds me a bit of Control and I’m a sucker for that type of stuff。

It's in the blood and the gristle。 These are the veins and arteries of Britain。 You can't escape your genes, he thinks, any more than you can escape your own heart and vessels。 Just tend to them 。 Just listen to your pulse。 But don't mistake it for a drumbeat。 Don't march to it。When a spot an unknown Warren Ellis in a charity shop I snap it up。 You know you are going to get something fun and bizarre。 This is certainly no exception。Ellis manages to weave horror, fantasy, and science fiction, It's in the blood and the gristle。 These are the veins and arteries of Britain。 You can't escape your genes, he thinks, any more than you can escape your own heart and vessels。 Just tend to them 。 Just listen to your pulse。 But don't mistake it for a drumbeat。 Don't march to it。When a spot an unknown Warren Ellis in a charity shop I snap it up。 You know you are going to get something fun and bizarre。 This is certainly no exception。Ellis manages to weave horror, fantasy, and science fiction, with British mythology and history, and provides a dystopian look at where our future is heading。When five brilliant minds are brought together to model where humanities future is heading, they find that innovation and progress is going to flatline。 Rather than accepting this fate they decide produce a new form of artificial intelligence, the 'Injection' to work in the background of the internet。 It's purpose is to push humanity forward, to bring out opportunity for progress。 Unfortunately what they create causes so much more interference that they imagined, able to bend the laws of physics themselves。 Can the 'Injection' be stopped?Gripping, intriguing, and thoroughly fun。 5 stars! 。。。more

How does one even describe this book? Innovative? Strange? Genre bending? Cold and macabre? Yet somehow still beautiful? This story is all of those things and then some。 I picked it up randomly solely because I wanted to try more comics from a company other than DC and Marvel (Don't worry I've read and loved a lot of their stuff)。 This story is fresh, cryptic, and has the art, dialogue, and intriguing characters to make you want more。 Will you sometimes sit back and wonder what the hell is going How does one even describe this book? I'm intrigued by the merger of the supernatural and technological, but I didn't get a good feel for how the characters relate to one another, their interactions felt flat。 Curious to see where it goes though。 I'm intrigued by the merger of the supernatural and technological, but I didn't get a good feel for how the characters relate to one another, their interactions felt flat。 Curious to see where it goes though。 。。。more

A very compelling read! I was a bit confused with what was going on but the characters and story kept me wanting to find out more! The story reminded me a bit of the X-Files and of the BPRD! I definitely want to read the next one!

Creativity such as what is in found here is so rare。 I find the writing to be a little less than pitch perfect (still very good) and the art serviceable。 It is the story’s concept that truly shines。

I really liked this, and will definitely be reading more of the series。 So far, it seems that there's been an experiment by a now fractured group which has altered the state of reality, and it's all gone a bit wrong。 The art is wonderful and I am very intrigued to see where this goes。 I really liked this, and will definitely be reading more of the series。 So far, it seems that there's been an experiment by a now fractured group which has altered the state of reality, and it's all gone a bit wrong。 The art is wonderful and I am very intrigued to see where this goes。 。。。more

DNFBy the 50th page I had no idea what was going on, who anyone was or what the point of the story was。 It started to feel like a chore with no end in sight and ultimately had no drive to continue reading。

I really enjoyed this。 Loved how sinister and ominous the set-up is and the connection to folklore is just the cherry on top。

Read for comic book club。 Set in our world。 Introduced a diverse cast, so it was easy to tell them apart。 A lot of mystery/backstory needs to be included to understand the reason。

Superb。 Brilliant work by Ellis。 Brilliant mixing of magic, cyberpunk, mythos, social commentary。 Part LXG, part promethea, part Cumberbach's Sherlock。 I wish he had finished the series。 Be warned, it stops after the third book。 I got hooked and then dropped。 Still totally worth it。 Superb。 Brilliant work by Ellis。 Brilliant mixing of magic, cyberpunk, mythos, social commentary。 Part LXG, part promethea, part Cumberbach's Sherlock。 I wish he had finished the series。 Be warned, it stops after the third book。 I got hooked and then dropped。 Still totally worth it。 。。。more

I liked the premise, but I didn’t like how obtuse this was。 Why do we have to wait until the very last chapter just to get a concrete explanation of what is going on?

This is a very interesting beginning to the series。 It has a very weird and eerie feel。 This group of five scientists has introduced this new non-biological consciousness into the fabric of the universe called the Injection。 It's purpose was to increase innovation so that the 21st century is not stagnant。 But it introduces all these paranormal phenomena。 This is a very interesting beginning to the series。 It has a very weird and eerie feel。 This group of five scientists has introduced this new non-biological consciousness into the fabric of the universe called the Injection。 It's purpose was to increase innovation so that the 21st century is not stagnant。 But it introduces all these paranormal phenomena。 。。。more
