Summary

Everything you thought you knew about witches is wrong。 They are much darker, and they are much more horrifying。 Wytches takes the mythology of witches to a far creepier, bone-chilling place than readers have dared venture before。 When the Rooks family moves to the remote town of Litchfield, NH to escape a haunting trauma, they're hopeful about starting over。 But something evil is waiting for them in the woods just beyond town。 Watching from the trees。 Ancient。。。and hungry。

Horror is my favorite genre。 The possibilities for storytelling are infinite and soul piercing, and this book has now made me fall in love with horror comics as well。 I’m never really read any before, but leave it to Scott Snyder to sell me on them hook, line, and sinker。 There’s something about these characters that felt so real beyond what most comic characters do。 Every issue expanded on who they were and what they genuinely struggle with on a human level with more nuance every time。 By the e Horror is my favorite genre。 The possibilities for storytelling are infinite and soul piercing, and this book has now made me fall in love with horror comics as well。 I’m never really read any before, but leave it to Scott Snyder to sell me on them hook, line, and sinker。 There’s something about these characters that felt so real beyond what most comic characters do。 Every issue expanded on who they were and what they genuinely struggle with on a human level with more nuance every time。 By the end of these six issues they all felt incredibly fleshed out, and I understood all of them deeply。 The art is also some of the most diverse and terrifying I’ve ever seen。 I’m not just talking about comics I mean ever。 Some of the images in this series are so well realized and the way they use jagged lines and darkness is nothing short of genius。 Jock should be immensely proud。By the end I just gotta say it really moved me。 Dealing with trauma and what we perceive as our weaknesses and faults。 Going down an abyss of demons that are as internal as external。 This is horror at its best。 。。。more

So so good。 Love the art style and the story is hard to put down

This is the second or third horror comic I’ve read, and it’s probably my favorite。 Its themes on family loyalty and learning patience and compassion towards others that struggle with fear and anxiety were perfectly contrasted with the frightening imagery and creepy story。 If you’re looking for a horror comic that’s small town based, has a ton of heart, creeping with forest monsters, and boasting a colorful art style, I highly recommend。Trigger warning: violence, suicide

Roland

The background of the story told in the amendments was way more interesting than the comic itself。 I love Jock's art, but this time it felt really underdeveloped, along with the plot。 Also that splattering all over the pages annoyed the hell out of me。 The background of the story told in the amendments was way more interesting than the comic itself。 I love Jock's art, but this time it felt really underdeveloped, along with the plot。 Also that splattering all over the pages annoyed the hell out of me。 。。。more

Una historia muy, muy buena que se complementa de maravilla con el estílo gráfico。 No he leído un comic similar antes, me encantó。

I really enjoyed this graphic novel。 Really amazing art and an interesting storyline。 I did find that it jumped around quite a bit, but once I expected it, the story line flowed more easily。 I’ll be reading volume two。

Puis une mention spéciale pour les sections où l'auteur de nous parle d'où lui est venu cette idée。 Parce que j'ai trouvé son idée que les sorcières ne soient pas des humains mais plutôt une espèce de créature végétale, très très intéressante ! 。。。more

Not my favourite at all。 The art style really wasn’t for me and the story, albeit promising, wasn’t what I thought it was going to be, predictable and not scary really at all。 The only part I really truly enjoyed was the author’s notes at the end about his experience with witches over the years, this felt more scary to me than the graphic novel did unfortunately。

(3。5)This is a rather creepy little first volume that sneaks up on you as you read。 It's certainly not the happiest of tales but it's definitely one that leaves you with feelings and thoughts in the end。It's hard to know exactly how to describe this graphic novel to you without ruining one single thing about it。 It's the story of a family that has seen better days。 The Rooks family, consisting of mom, dad, and daughter, have moved to a small town in NH in the hopes of getting far away from a tra (3。5)This is a rather creepy little first volume that sneaks up on you as you read。 It's certainly not the happiest of tales but it's definitely one that leaves you with feelings and thoughts in the end。It's hard to know exactly how to describe this graphic novel to you without ruining one single thing about it。 It's the story of a family that has seen better days。 The Rooks family, consisting of mom, dad, and daughter, have moved to a small town in NH in the hopes of getting far away from a trauma they suffered。 Of course, this never works out as one should know by now! The woods are just a little bit evil。 That is, they may just be the place some ancient, freaky, ugly, evil doers dwell in and things are about to get really interesting。You'll very quickly see why these being are called "Wytches"。 They needed their own classification。 They are incredibly weird and creepy。 The artwork is impressive and makes this horror story chilling and thought provoking。 The story itself is quite good but I did find myself rereading a spot or two when I just either lost a little attention or needed a little extra clarification。 Still, all in all this was a solid first volume and I'm very curious about what is to come next。I recommend this to anyone and everyone that is at all interested in learning a bit more about it。 It's definitely worth checking out。 。。。more

Wytches is just fine in almost every way。 The characters are fine。 The story is fine。 The pacing is fine。 None if it is great。The art is distracting and chaotic。 I sometimes found myself blurring dialogue in my head because the panels were so messy and hectic。This definitely didn't blow me away。 I thought the general storyline was a bit well tread in terms of themes and tropes。 Stories that focus on mental illness and anxiety tend to mystify it and even demonize it。 All in all, this is a well wr Wytches is just fine in almost every way。 The characters are fine。 The story is fine。 The pacing is fine。 None if it is great。The art is distracting and chaotic。 I sometimes found myself blurring dialogue in my head because the panels were so messy and hectic。This definitely didn't blow me away。 I thought the general storyline was a bit well tread in terms of themes and tropes。 Stories that focus on mental illness and anxiety tend to mystify it and even demonize it。 All in all, this is a well written story, but one I've seen before, and done better in other iterations。 。。。more

En realitat és xulo veure aquests antecedents reals i adonar-se de les emprentes que l'autor ha deixat d'ells en la història, això és molt interessant! 。。。more

I finished this last week and visited my parents today (Easter) with the sneaky side mission of checking on the woods behind their house。 I have not done Easter since the early 2000s。 This was prompted by Snyder's essay that followed the first issue of Wytches in which he described searching the woods for witches as a child and using the random items found as evidence。 He included pictures of an old truck left in the woods。I had a similar experience (though we searched for evidence of murders an I finished this last week and visited my parents today (Easter) with the sneaky side mission of checking on the woods behind their house。 I have not done Easter since the early 2000s。 This was prompted by Snyder's essay that followed the first issue of Wytches in which he described searching the woods for witches as a child and using the random items found as evidence。 He included pictures of an old truck left in the woods。I had a similar experience (though we searched for evidence of murders and ghosts of the victims) and thought I would share a couple of "car in the woods" photos from my old stomping ground。 As a "bonus," I've learned as an adult that my woods were full of sinkholes, and my dad set up a tire swing over one。 There are at least 7-8 vehicles that stretch back roughly in a line。 A couple more。Anyway, back to the book。 Ultimately, I think something better could have been done with the concept of witches capturing people in trees, but I also enjoyed the read overall。While there are some points of interest in that it's a modern take on an old fairy tale trope (which I won't specifically mention to avoid spoilers), I feel like there is something about the pledging rules that seem a bit loose and, well, broken。 That makes the whole story seem a bit loose and broken。 。。。more

This volume of Wytches contains issues #1-6。This was a really good read! I liked both the artwork and writing。 I found the characters of Sail and Charlie to be particularly interesting and I loved that this story revolves around a father/daughter relationship。 I really liked the concept of this comic and hope that it continues (it seems like a second story arc was planned but have no idea if it is still happening)。 I also have to say that I really liked the essays Scott Snyder wrote for each iss This volume of Wytches contains issues #1-6。This was a really good read!
