I've cooked from this one many times and have really enjoyed everything I've made so far。 Yes, there are a few repeats and overlapping recipes concepts with her other cookbooks but it's not something that bothered me considering all of the other delicious items that were "new" to me。 I've cooked from this one many times and have really enjoyed everything I've made so far。 Yes, there are a few repeats and overlapping recipes concepts with her other cookbooks but it's not something that bothered me considering all of the other delicious items that were "new" to me。 。。。more

All of Isa Chandra Moskowitz's books are stellar, and this one is no exception。 I initially resisted picking it up because it's targeted at people who are learning to cook vegan food and I've been doing so for decades。 However, I recently grabbed a copy at the library to take it for a spin, and I'm glad I did。 So many delicious recipes to add to my repertoire! I've now got a copy on order at Bookshop! Although I’ve not made every recipe in this book, I have made several of Isa’s recipes throughout the year。 Many of the recipes can be very time intensive, but most have been worth the effort。 My favorites have been: Garlicky White Bean and Asparagus Soup, Cream of Mushroom Soup, Southern Comfort Bowl, Portobello Brisket Bowl, and the Banana Cinnamon Swirl Muffins。 The Broccoli Mac and Cheese and Swedish Tofu balls were only ok。 I look forward to trying many other recipes。

After reading thru the whole book I only found 6 recipes I would try。 I picked this book up because I'm trying to eat more vegetables and I was looking for new recipes without animal protein。 The problem I found with this book and similar vegan cookbooks is the lack of regard for carb counts。 If you are making a stew with beans, lentils, and pasta that's just way too many carbs for one meal。 Also the fonts were all over the place。 The ingredient list would be a size 12 and the Instructions would After reading thru the whole book I only found 6 recipes I would try。 I picked this book up because I'm trying to eat more vegetables and I was looking for new recipes without animal protein。 The problem I found with this book and similar vegan cookbooks is the lack of regard for carb counts。 If you are making a stew with beans, lentils, and pasta that's just way too many carbs for one meal。 Also the fonts were all over the place。 The ingredient list would be a size 12 and the Instructions would be a size 18。 Very weird and hard on the eyes。 。。。more

Definitely follows the trend of blogs becoming books。 The recipes are clear, the presentation clean and the pictures sell the meal。 I like the wit and the writing provided and the ability to cook these meals at almost all levels。

This was a fun cookbook to read。 Moskowitz has an engaging writing style, down-to-earth, witty & quite humorous at times。 In addition, the book is chock full of really tasty sounding vegan dishes most of which use things probably in your pantry right now。 Quite a few of them would probably appeal to the omnivores in your family as well。 Almost every recipe is accompanied by a full page photo。 A great book for those just venturing into vegan cooking, but also for others looking to expand their re This was a fun cookbook to read。 Moskowitz has an engaging writing style, down-to-earth, witty & quite humorous at times。 In addition, the book is chock full of really tasty sounding vegan dishes most of which use things probably in your pantry right now。 Quite a few of them would probably appeal to the omnivores in your family as well。 Almost every recipe is accompanied by a full page photo。 A great book for those just venturing into vegan cooking, but also for others looking to expand their repertoire。 。。。more

This book has been a great companion during the coronovirus lockdown。 Some seriously good food made simply。 I understand some people don’t like the colored ink used for the recipes — but I love how clearly each section is separated by these color changes。 This book has many recipes similar to “Isa Does It!” - but these are easier to prepare —— truly a great book for beginners — or for experienced cooks who just want easy weeknight meals。 I’ve remade several recipes already - the cheesy Mac and b This book has been a great companion during the coronovirus lockdown。 Some seriously good food made simply。 I understand some people don’t like the colored ink used for the recipes — but I love how clearly each section is separated by these color changes。 This book has many recipes similar to “Isa Does It!” - but these are easier to prepare —— truly a great book for beginners — or for experienced cooks who just want easy weeknight meals。 I’ve remade several recipes already - the cheesy Mac and broccoli, the creamy chickpea bow tie soup, the chorizo taco salad, and have enjoyed many others。 There have been one or two recipes that I did not like — but because the vast majority are so tasty and easy to make, I say it deserves a full five star rating。 。。。more

I want to make every single recipe in this book, including the ones with mushrooms。 This is serious。UPDATE: I had to reduce this rating from 5 stars to 4, because of the dozen or so recipes we've cooked so far, several of them have had errors or omissions。 I want to make every single recipe in this book, including the ones with mushrooms。 This is serious。UPDATE: I had to reduce this rating from 5 stars to 4, because of the dozen or so recipes we've cooked so far, several of them have had errors or omissions。 。。。more

Thank you, Becky, for this wonderful gift for Christmas 2019- I am grateful that you see in me a future and better chef within the plant-based lifestyle。 One recipe at a time! I love love love Isa's other cookbooks, so it pains me to give her a negative review。 But the fonts/colors chosen for the print edition of this book are terrible。While the introductions are in super large dark print, the actual recipes are pale and miniscule - completely unreadable in a kitchen setting。 Please Isa, keep sharing your excellent recipes and fire your 'creative consultant'! Some complicated recipes, some easy recipes, overall a great mix! I would probably make 90% of these recipes, but there were a few ingredients I don’t like that were the star of a recipe (kale, mushrooms) or are too expensive to buy for one recipe (chickpea flour, sun-dried tomatoes)。 I liked the look of the book, and I liked her writing style and the way she really explained steps for people who might not know how to cook。 Read it and learn how to cook vegan!

What a delightful cook book! I really enjoyed the into and preface to every chapter。 Thought the large playful print would carry on into the recipes。 That's the only criticism I have。 The ingredient list font is far too small and for some reason is printed in light lentil green making it somewhat difficult to read。The recipes are divided into Pastas & Noodles, Salads Big & Small, Sandwiches, Soups & Stews, Bowls & Sautes, From the Oven, On the Side and Sweets。A lovely extra at the back is A Few What a delightful cook book! I really enjoyed the into and preface to every chapter。 Thought the large playful print would carry on into the recipes。 That's the only criticism I have。 The ingredient list font is far too small and for some reason is printed in light lentil green making it somewhat difficult to read。The recipes are divided into Pastas & Noodles, Salads Big & Small, Sandwiches, Soups & Stews, Bowls & Sautes, From the Oven, On the Side and Sweets。A lovely extra at the back is A Few Staples。 These are 11 frequently used recipes to make from scratch that you might otherwise buy。 They are: a white bean cream cheese, vegan sausage, a creamy cheezy topping, eggplant lardons, vegan mayo, Swizz Cheese, a lovely marinara sauce, a standard guac with a bit of a kick, Seitan, Noochy Baked Tofu, and Noochy Croutons。 The 1st recipe I made was Minty Tabbouleh with Baked Falafel & Tzatziki from the Salad section。 I subbed quinoa for the bulgur in the tabbouleh。 It was tremendously easy to make and terribly delicious! The first time I made it, I made the falafels a bit too thin and dry and they crumbled。 The second time I used some chickpea cooking water and chickpea flour instead of whole wheat。 Both times I stuffed them into pitas along with the tabbouleh and tzatziki for an on the go lunch as the author advised as an alternative to a salad。 The 2nd recipe I made was Mushroom-Lentil Noodle Soup。 This a very hearty tasty soup! I used pre-cooked barley instead of noodles and added a few dried oyster mushrooms for a bit of fun。 The 3rd recipe I made was Smoky Tomato Lentil Soup w Spinach and Olives。 Now I'm not an olive fan so I omitted them just to see if it would hold up。 It did! I used a mixture of baby spinach and baby kale instead of straight up spinach and added 3 cups cooked quinoa。 I also fried up a bunch of Indian garlic Puda (chickpea pancakes) to soak up the smoky goodness。This cookbook is for beginners as well as experienced vegan cooks as the author tells you in the introduction。 She comes at cooking in a fun and simplistic way to show you it's not all that difficult and the results are delicious!I look forward to trying more of these out! Many thanks and love to my daughter-in-law for giving me such a wonderful cook book! 。。。more

I love this author but the book's color choices make it hard to read and harder to use in the kitchen。 Seriously whoever ruled that pink or light yellow were good color choices for the ingredient lists must have only looked at it on screen, not on paper。 I love this author but the book's color choices make it hard to read and harder to use in the kitchen。 Seriously whoever ruled that pink or light yellow were good color choices for the ingredient lists must have only looked at it on screen, not on paper。 。。。more

As is my practice with cookbooks, I often shelf-browse at the library, then borrow stacks of interesting ones to flip through at home。 Most gave a few new recipes for me, which I scan, and add to my recipes file。 This one had so many yummy looking recipes, I bought my own copy。 Bonus: much of the text is large, and that’s a treat for my eyes。 She mixes in basic but helpful techniques and reminders (de-glaze your pans!), and adds complexity as the recipes continue, a unique approach。 I would have As is my practice with cookbooks, I often shelf-browse at the library, then borrow stacks of interesting ones to flip through at home。 Most gave a few new recipes for me, which I scan, and add to my recipes file。 This one had so many yummy looking recipes, I bought my own copy。 Bonus: much of the text is large, and that’s a treat for my eyes。 She mixes in basic but helpful techniques and reminders (de-glaze your pans!), and adds complexity as the recipes continue, a unique approach。 I would have given the book five stars, but she lost me with the anti-climatic “sweets” chapter。 It was pedestrian, predictable, lazy and, unlike most of the cookbook, completely unhealthy。 。。。more

3。5 stars -- I got a big kick out of the artwork and typeface in this book, which should bring a nostalgic twinge to anyone who attended elementary school in the 1970s or 1980s。 There's something comforting about it, and indeed, this book is teaching material--for vegans who are new to cooking more complex meals, and for omnivores who are new to cooking vegan。 Yes, you can cook vegan!I've seen a lot of complaints about the ingredient lists being difficult to see in the print version。 I had the e 3。5 stars -- I got a big kick out of the artwork and typeface in this book, which should bring a nostalgic twinge to anyone who attended elementary school in the 1970s or 1980s。 There's something comforting about it, and indeed, this book is teaching material--for vegans who are new to cooking more complex meals, and for omnivores who are new to cooking vegan。 Yes, you can cook vegan!I've seen a lot of complaints about the ingredient lists being difficult to see in the print version。 I had the e-book, so not a problem。 I loved that there were gorgeous pictures of every meal。 Most of the recipes were still a little involved for me。 In a world of Beyond sausage and Chao cheese, I still don't feel like I need to make my own。 I could see myself using some of the meals for ideas that I could create with simpler steps。 。。。more

I'm back with another cookbook from the Abrams Dinner Party!  I am a meat eater but do have a sister that is a vegetarian and my MIL used to be vegan。  So anytime I was hosting a dinner, I needed to make sure that something on the menu would be suitable for them to eat。  It really isn't too hard to adapt recipes to make them vegetarian-friendly and of course, it depends on what level the person is a vegetarian or vegan。  My sister will eat some dairy and eggs so that made it a little easier with I'm back with another cookbook from the Abrams Dinner Party!  I am a meat eater but do have a sister that is a vegetarian and my MIL used to be vegan。  So anytime I was hosting a dinner, I needed to make sure that something on the menu would be suitable for them to eat。  It really isn't too hard to adapt recipes to make them vegetarian-friendly and of course, it depends on what level the person is a vegetarian or vegan。  My sister will eat some dairy and eggs so that made it a little easier with some dishes。  It is also easy to swap out vegetable stock for chicken stock in dishes。Let me tell you about this cookbook。  If you are a beginning cook or learning your way around what is vegan, this is a great place to start。  The intro is in a nice huge font which makes it very easy to read。  You have no idea how much I appreciated the larger font。  The author then provides some cooking tips and then shares common vegan ingredients, how they are used and what to look for in that particular item。  Then the book is divided into chapters based on category and each category has its own color。  This is nice because if you know you want to look at pasta and noodle dishes then you look at the yellow section。  My only complaint when it comes to the categories is that the ingredient list is in the color of the section。  So the pasta and noodles section has the ingredient list in yellow。  It makes it a little harder to read if the color is a bit lighter。I have made a few dishes from this cookbook and have marked a few others I want to try soon。  My husband is not a vegetarian by any stretch so I knew some of the main dishes wouldn't be for him。  But there are a couple of super easy side dishes in the back that rounded out a meal quite nicely。  I made the Turmeric Garlic Rice and the Ginger Sweet Potato Mash。  I've made a sweet potato mash in the past but never thought about putting ginger in the dish and that spice added just the right little something to round it out。For a dinner party tonight I decided to try the two cupcake recipes - Strawberry Lemonade and Chocolate with Peanut Butter Frosting。  Because it is November, I didn't have any good strawberries on hand but did have some raspberries。  This is a delicious replacement for the strawberries。  The recipes are not hard to make and everyone at the party loved both flavors。 In fact, several of us took half of each flavor to try。  I actually cut the recipes in half so that I only made 6 of each flavor instead of 12。  I really didn't need that many extra hanging around!  Both icing recipes made more than enough for 6 cupcakes even with the recipe cut in half。  The icing is very sweet, but when combined with the cupcake (which was not sweet) it made for the perfect bite。  The dinner guests were surprised when I announced that dessert was vegan。  I decided after I took the photo to put a few peanuts on the chocolate cupcakes。  Because the color was close to the frosting color I don't think it mattered much, but perhaps chopping them up and sprinkling on top would have added a crunch to the dessert。This is a very versatile cookbook and I highly recommend it to anyone learning to cook or interested in some vegan dishes。We give it 5 paws up。**photos can be seen after 1pm CT on 11/11 on my blog - https://storeybookreviews。com/2019/11。。。 。。。more
