Summary

In acclaimed author Jack Carr’s follow-up to The Terminal List, former Navy SEAL James Reece’s skill, cunning, and heroism put the US government back in his debt and set him on another path of revenge。

When a string of horrific terrorist attacks plagues the Western world during the holiday season, the broader markets fall into a tailspin。 The attacks are being coordinated by a shadowy former Iraqi commando who has disappeared into Europe’s underground。 The United States government has an asset who can turn the Iraqi against his masters: James Reece, the most-wanted domestic terrorist alive。

After avenging the deaths of his family and team members, Reece emerges deep in the wilds of Mozambique, protected by the family of his estranged best friend and former SEAL Team member。 When a series of events uncovers his whereabouts, the CIA recruits him, using a Presidential pardon for Reece and immunity for the friends who helped him in his mission of vengeance。

Now a reluctant tool of the United States government, Reece travels the globe, targeting terrorist leaders and unraveling a geopolitical conspiracy that exposes a traitorous CIA officer and uncovers a sinister assassination plot with worldwide repercussions。

A high-intensity roller-coaster ride, True Believer explodes with action and authenticity that cements Jack Carr as the new leader in political thrillers。

As a writer of Spy thrillers myself, I like the way this book by Jack Carr gets deep into tracking down radical elements and the detail necessary to take them out。 Military fiction fans of course will love this, especially if you’re into gadgets (same with the Terminal list) but you can’t get a much more authentic feeling thriller than one written by Jack Carr。 If you haven’t read The Terminal List, read that first- it gives True Believer much more perspective。 I’m a big James Reece fan now, and As a writer of Spy thrillers myself, I like the way this book by Jack Carr gets deep into tracking down radical elements and the detail necessary to take them out。 Military fiction fans of course will love this, especially if you’re into gadgets (same with the Terminal list) but you can’t get a much more authentic feeling thriller than one written by Jack Carr。 If you haven’t read The Terminal List, read that first- it gives True Believer much more perspective。 I’m a big James Reece fan now, and several chapters into “The Devil’s Hand”。 Jack Care is bloody (pun intended) brilliant。 。。。more

This book is the bomb! Literally! I totally enjoyed the revenge porn, which is essentially what the first book in this series (The Terminal List) was。 However, it was obviously Carr's first book and he had a few writing kinks to work out。 I felt that True Believer was more of a traditional suspense thriller: good guy finds and kills a shit-ton of bad guys。 One aspect of Carr that is superb is that he never makes mistakes regarding guns and assorted weaponry。 Many of these suspense writers have t This book is the bomb! Personal Response: I personally liked True Believer by Jack Carr, because it had a lot of detail into it。 I can really feel the emotion that Reece felt as he went through the story。 The story really described how hard Reece’s life had gotten。 But since he was an ex Navy Seal he was able to take all the punishment that was thrown at him。Plot: The story starts off with Reece who had just avenged his fallen teammates and his family。 He believes that he is on death's door due to a tumor that had for Personal Response: I personally liked True Believer by Jack Carr, because it had a lot of detail into it。 I can really feel the emotion that Reece felt as he went through the story。 The story really described how hard Reece’s life had gotten。 But since he was an ex Navy Seal he was able to take all the punishment that was thrown at him。Plot: The story starts off with Reece who had just avenged his fallen teammates and his family。 He believes that he is on death's door due to a tumor that had formed in his brain。 As he was going through periods of headaches from the tumor he had, he was making a trans continental trip to Africa by boat。 He eventually made it to Africa and got to, what he had thought, his last place he was gonna live。 He was staying with his old friend’s uncle who was a veteran of the Rhodesian Bush War。 Eventually, one of the last people Reece could trust found him。 He tells Reece that the whole U。S government has just been revealed to have been highly corrupt。 He is then asked to do a job for the same government that had just tried to kill him but he accepts。 He is very cautious at first but then starts to warm up to his new employer。 He finds out that one of his ex teammates is the head of a terrorist cell。 He later confronts him in Istanbul and finds out that a CIA agent gone rogue has been telling Mo what to do。 Eventually Mo takes the CIA agent and kills him in a very gory manner。 Much later Mo and Reece work together to track down the ex CIA agent’s contact and they interrogate him with relative ease since he was only in it for the money。 They finally figure out who is the mastermind behind all of it and kill him。 Reece is then in Mecca where the US and Russian president are going to give a speech。 The Russian President is assassinated and the US president just barely makes it out alive。 Reece then stops a few terrorists from spreading a toxic nerve gas that would make the area completely uninhabitable for a couple of centuries。 Reece and Mo along with a couple of his remaining teammates then go AWOL and kill the last remaining antagonist with one being the proposed next leader of Russia and the other being the Russians disciple。 Reece kills the Russian by rocket launcher and interrogates the Earlier mentioned contact to find info on the Russians disciple。 He kills him by using the same toxic nerve that was sent to Mecca to be used。 The story ends off with Reece searching for the disciple。Characterization: tProtagonist: Reece is the protagonist of the story since it revolves around him the most。 He is relatively static with minor changes later when his closest friend is killed。tAntagonist: There is no clear antagonist since there are many different people who could be classified as one。 The closest we get to is the Russian who is supposed to become the next leader of Russia and his Disciple。 They both remain static since we don’t get to read much about them。Setting: The setting of the book takes place all over the world。 The main character is constantly moving from place to place。 He is almost like a Nomad。Recommendation: I would recommend this book to highschool students that have an interest in military style books。 It has plenty of detail for those that struggle with visualizing what is happening。 I personally think that Jack Carr did an excellent job writing this book。 。。。more

This book is a continuation of book 1, it won't make sense if you haven't read book 1。 While still good, it was a little less the book of book 1。 I found it to basically contain 2 different, independent stories that were combined into one book。 I think both would have been better served to be fleshed out more to their own independent stories。 That being said it was still a good book and story, and I'm starting book 3。 This book is a continuation of book 1, it won't make sense if you haven't read book 1。 While still good, it was a little less the book of book 1。 I found it to basically contain 2 different, independent stories that were combined into one book。 I think both would have been better served to be fleshed out more to their own independent stories。 That being said it was still a good book and story, and I'm starting book 3。 。。。more

It's great when a book lives up to the hype。 It's incredible when an author's second book is even better than the first。 When both happen, it's obvious that you're reading a Jack Carr novel! The man who walked the walk, Jack makes you feel like you're kitted up, fighting along side Reece and his friends。 Action so real that your head is on a swivel checking for threats。 Most authors start out with a great concept and marvelous characters, but when trying to follow up on a superb first novel fall It's great when a book lives up to the hype。 It's incredible when an author's second book is even better than the first。 When both happen, it's obvious that you're reading a Jack Carr novel! These books pull me in two directions, the first impulse is to read as fast as possible to see what happens next while the other is to slowly enjoy the time spent with an old friend, a brother, catching up and loving his company。 As long as Carr wants to continue to tell Reece's story, I'll be there to read every word, and trying to decipher the redacted ones。 Thank you for your service, Jack, on the battlefield and and behind the typewriter。 。。。more

I didn't enjoy reading this book, and many times I thought I'd give up before the end。 I read this book as a book of fiction。 I found it very slow to get going。 But then it sprinted through the end。 I didn't like redacted out sections。I appreciate it was the study of the psyche of a military solder。 However I wanted to read as a piece of fiction, i。e。 a good story。 This it wasn't。 I didn't enjoy reading this book, and many times I thought I'd give up before the end。 I read this book as a book of fiction。 I found it very slow to get going。 But then it sprinted through the end。 I didn't like redacted out sections。I appreciate it was the study of the psyche of a military solder。 However I wanted to read as a piece of fiction, i。e。 a good story。 This it wasn't。 。。。more

Reece becomes enlisted in exchange for a Presidential pardon to help take down terrorists supposedly bombing large crowds, only to uncover a more serious threat, that of a CIA mole who is still working for the other side。

Would have been a five star review if I did not have to travel all the way across the Atlantic, day by day, and I became XXXXXXXXXXX irritated by the XXXXXXXX use of the blackout。 Yeah, I get it, you were a bad ass and some content has been redacted。 So。。。。。。。either remove the XXXXXXXX redactions or use a different word or different locale。 The multiple paragraph used of the Xs was ridiculous。Now, as far as the overall story。 Fantastic。 I will say it again, these novels are what Brad Thor and Vi Would have been a five star review if I did not have to travel all the way across the Atlantic, day by day, and I became XXXXXXXXXXX irritated by the XXXXXXXX use of the blackout。 Yeah, I get it, you were a bad ass and some content has been redacted。 So。。。。。。。either remove the XXXXXXXX redactions or use a different word or different locale。 The multiple paragraph used of the Xs was ridiculous。Now, as far as the overall story。 Fantastic。 I will say it again, these novels are what Brad Thor and Vince Flynn books USED TO BE。 Fast paced, complete thrillers。 Mr。 Carr, you mention some of your inspirational authors in the Afterword。。。。having read many of their contributions, they should read your novels in an attempt to "get back to basics"。 。。。more

It took me FOREVER to get through this。 Gave up on it a couple of times and read another book。 Kept going back, though, and finally did manage to finish it。 I read Terminal List several years ago and, from what I remember, enjoyed it。 This one 。。。 not so much! Action packedAs a Navy veteran I have always enjoyed novels with insight to our elite special forces。 Jack Carr is not only a hero, but a darn good story teller。 He shows how these operators are not only bad-ass fighters, but they’re fathers, husbands, brothers and friends who feel the same pain we all do at the losses they endure。 Well done shipmate。

Book one was so good, but after finishing book two it almost feels like it may have been too good。 While this entry into the James Reece series is decent。。。I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as book one。This story takes a long time to develop and get to a point where it is exciting and enjoyable to read。 Once it gets there it is a good story, but getting there was tedious。 Without the superb character introduction and development in book one this would have been almost impossible to read。 As i Book one was so good, but after finishing book two it almost feels like it may have been too good。 While this entry into the James Reece series is decent。。。I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as book one。This story takes a long time to develop and get to a point where it is exciting and enjoyable to read。 Once it gets there it is a good story, but getting there was tedious。 Without the superb character introduction and development in book one this would have been almost impossible to read。 As it is, it was difficult, but worth it in the end because of book one。In book one we had the plot all set out and served to us as is。 It made the perspective shifts no issue as they were adding context to a plot that was already developed, and James Reece was acting on a set of goals already set out。 In this book the plot is developing and we are learning about it for the first 20 chapters of the book, and this mixed in with constant perspective changes makes the beginning drag on for way too long。The different character perspectives don't intersect until chapter 31, They aren't even related a little bit until this point。 This made the first third of the book really difficult for me to read。 It is a bunch of time spent with characters I simply do not care about, and the time with the one I do care about is stagnant without anything important happening。 He is quite literally just floating around。I just hope this isn't what I should be expecting in book three。 If the outline for future books is a bunch of nothing stacked up at the start this won't be a series I will enjoy。 For something that is classified as a thriller it is quite the opposite for the first third of the book。 。。。more

Good over all, but a little too mainstream terror plot。 I've read so many of these books and the market is flooded with them, so I get it is difficult to arrive as a fairly new author and put something out that stands apart。 The writing improved from the first book which is always awesome to see an author grow their vocab and writing skills。 Good over all, but a little too mainstream terror plot。 I've read so many of these books and the market is flooded with them, so I get it is difficult to arrive as a fairly new author and put something out that stands apart。 The writing improved from the first book which is always awesome to see an author grow their vocab and writing skills。 。。。more
