Summary

**THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER**

'I don't think I've ever read a book that has made me cry with laughter as much as this one。 It was very difficult reading it in public as I looked like a madman' - Richard Herring

'James Acaster has a brilliant comic mind, crackling with energy every bit as much as his corduroy slacks' - Milton Jones

James Acaster has been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award five times and has appeared on prime-time TV shows like MOCK THE WEEKLIVE AT THE APOLLO and RUSSELL HOWARD'S STAND UP CENTRAL

But behind the fame and critical acclaim is a man perpetually getting into trouble。 Whether it's disappointing a skydiving instructor mid-flight, hiding from thugs in a bush wearing a bright red dress, or annoying the Kettering Board Games club, a didgeridoo-playing conspiracy theorist and some bemused Christians, James is always finding new ways to embarrass himself。

Appearing on Josh Widdicombe's radio show to recount these stories, the feature was christened 'James Acaster's classic scrapes'。 Here, in his first book, James recounts these tales (including never-before-heard stories) along with self-penned drawings, in all their glorious stupidity。

He's way funnier on podcasts & panel shows。 Occasionally funny, but just occasionally。 He's way funnier on podcasts & panel shows。 Occasionally funny, but just occasionally。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book a lot even as someone who usually sticks to fiction。 I do love James and his stories did make me laugh。 I would recommend this to others if they fancy a lighthearted and fun read which you can easily pick up and dip into when you fancy。

I'm pretty sure that I would've given this 5 stars had I listened to the audio book。 James pretty much sums it up in the last chapter。 If you never do anything outside of your comfort zone, maybe your life will be easier but it will also be pretty boring and you won't have any hilarious stories to share。 I'm pretty sure that I would've given this 5 stars had I listened to the audio book。 James pretty much sums it up in the last chapter。 If you never do anything outside of your comfort zone, maybe your life will be easier but it will also be pretty boring and you won't have any hilarious stories to share。 。。。more

This was much-needed light relief。 Reading a chapter a night was the ideal bedtime read。

A very funny book。。。 don’t read it near other people though because they will keep asking you why you are laughing so much and you have to stop reading to explain。

as previously mentioned, any book that makes me have a physical reaction gets 5 stars no matter what。 i audibly laughed and whispered what the fuck while reading this and that's high praise。 why is this man's life the way that it is as previously mentioned, any book that makes me have a physical reaction gets 5 stars no matter what。 i audibly laughed and whispered what the fuck while reading this and that's high praise。 why is this man's life the way that it is 。。。more

The collection of classic scrapes will be familiar to anyone who knows James Acaster from his appearances on British radio or t。v。 programs。 Some of the best stories here have been related, or, rather, versions of them have been related on British panel shows like Would I Lie to You and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown。 But their familiarity only adds to the fun of the book and the chance to get a deeper, more detailed look at the scrapes is a welcome one。 Perhaps the best part of the book is tha The collection of classic scrapes will be familiar to anyone who knows James Acaster from his appearances on British radio or t。v。 programs。 Some of the best stories here have been related, or, rather, versions of them have been related on British panel shows like Would I Lie to You and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown。 But their familiarity only adds to the fun of the book and the chance to get a deeper, more detailed look at the scrapes is a welcome one。 Perhaps the best part of the book is that Acaster's style and tone come through so clearly; it's easy to read the book as though it were being narrated by Acaster himself。 Although it doesn't veer from the formula established decades ago for book-of-essays-by-up-and-coming-comedian, it does what it does well and is genuinely fun to read。 。。。more

A very funny read, easy to follow and enjoyable。 The stories are very well written and you can almost picture the scenes unfolding。

I really enjoy James' comedy and my partner bought me this for Christmas。 I tried to like it, and have kept picking it up a few times over the past few weeks trying a couple of stories and putting it down。 I personally feel that the book is missing the perfect timing of James' comedy and therefore I found it difficult to like。 I really enjoy James' comedy and my partner bought me this for Christmas。 I tried to like it, and have kept picking it up a few times over the past few weeks trying a couple of stories and putting it down。 I personally feel that the book is missing the perfect timing of James' comedy and therefore I found it difficult to like。 。。。more

Iconic and so freaking funny。 I love how he tied the book up at the end too and I enjoyed the hornet even if it wasn't going anywhere。 Iconic and so freaking funny。 I love how he tied the book up at the end too and I enjoyed the hornet even if it wasn't going anywhere。 。。。more

Some amusing stories in a book that is an easy read

It's like an autobiography but actually funny。 And that's coming from someone who has no soul and laughs at absolutely nothing。 4* It's like an autobiography but actually funny。 And that's coming from someone who has no soul and laughs at absolutely nothing。 4* 。。。more

I don't think I will ever find something that James has done that I don't instantly love。 He is my favourite comedian and I have been working my way through his stand up and interviews。I stumbled across a compliation of Josh Widdicombe's radio show with James retelling of the scrapes。 So this audiobook was a no brainer。 It was brilliant to hear the stories again but in more detail and like only James can。I highly recommend as I haven't laughed like this in a really long time 😅😅🥰🥰 I don't think I will ever find something that James has done that I don't instantly love。 He is my favourite comedian and I have been working my way through his stand up and interviews。I stumbled across a compliation of Josh Widdicombe's radio show with James retelling of the scrapes。 So this audiobook was a no brainer。 It was brilliant to hear the stories again but in more detail and like only James can。I highly recommend as I haven't laughed like this in a really long time 😅😅🥰🥰 。。。more

Probably rounding up here。 I love James Acaster。 I really like when he inserts his quips into his stories。 As the books stands, there are several funny moments but nothing magical。

Erin

I Love this comedian。 But sometimes the language is a bit much—you can skip Fell Foot Sound in this book and not miss a thing。 Even James apologizes for this one。 But the book as a whole is hilarious!

Jess

I loved this book! 4。5 stars but I rounded it down ONLY because I’ve already heard a lot of these stories from watching every bit of content I can find of his。 It’s really funny but also kind of motivational in a way 。。。 I admire him because he literally just says yes to everything。 Maybe sometimes it doesn’t work out but hey, he has plenty of stories to tell。 Inspiring, hilarious and very easy to read, I nightly recommend!!

I love the casual writing style and you can feel the influence of the radio show。 Great scraps, but I do hope he has less of them!

Very funny anecdotes of one of my current favourite comedians。 I giggled my way through and finished it in two days!

Been listening to this on audible every now and then for awhile now。 It’s hilarious but so much of that is because James reads the book himself and his manner of speaking is so funny。 I think it would be significantly less funny read as a traditional book。 But if you can I would highly recommend giving it a listen, I love this man。
