Summary

Girls can rule the world—all they need is confidence。 This empowering, entertaining guide from the bestselling authors of The Confidence Code gives girls the essential yet elusive code to becoming bold, brave, and fearless。

It’s a paradox familiar to parents everywhere: girls are achieving like never before, yet they’re consumed with doubt on the inside。 Girls worry constantly about how they look, what people think, whether to try out for a sports team or school play, why they aren’t getting “perfect” grades, and how many likes and followers they have online。

Katty Kay and Claire Shipman use cutting-edge science and research, as well as proven methods of behavioral change, to reach girls just when they need it the most—the tween and teen years。

Packed with graphic novel strips; appealing illustrations; fun lists, quizzes, and challenges; and true stories from tons of real girls, The Confidence Code for Girls teaches girls to embrace risk, deal with failure, and be their most authentic selves。

If you or the girl in your life loved The Gutsy Girl or Rad American Women A-Z, you'll love this。

I read this when I was 10 and thought I had to review this now that I have a Goodreads account。 Very seldom have I seen a review of this book written by the age group that this "book" actually targets。 This is nothing short of AWFUL。 I honestly think I would be better off if I hadn't read this。 Full of insincere fluff about "confidence" and most definitely follows the girl boss feminism ideals。 I found that it was doused in toxic positivity rather than giving actual advice to help girls deal wit I read this when I was 10 and thought I had to review this now that I have a Goodreads account。 Very seldom have I seen a review of this book written by the age group that this "book" actually targets。 This is nothing short of AWFUL。 I honestly think I would be better off if I hadn't read this。 Full of insincere fluff about "confidence" and most definitely follows the girl boss feminism ideals。 I found that it was doused in toxic positivity rather than giving actual advice to help girls deal with the challenges they face。 Never have I ever hated a book more, this is literally just a collection of disingenuous, hollow so-called "advice"。 。。。more

Great message for tweens and early teens。 In fact, great for the moms too!

I read with my daughter and it had some very good practical thought exercises as we head into tween years。

I honestly couldn’t put this book down。 I wish the “for Girls” headline wasn’t there because it didn’t seem to just be for girls。 Sure, there are a few chapters on feminism, but for the most part the book was for everyone。 Especially high school students。 The authors define confidence as the magical ingredient that turns thoughts into actions (simple!) and then show how to go about building it。 Examples are things like trying out for a school team, recovering after getting rejected, having a cou I honestly couldn’t put this book down。 I wish the “for Girls” headline wasn’t there because it didn’t seem to just be for girls。 Sure, there are a few chapters on feminism, but for the most part the book was for everyone。 Especially high school students。 The authors define confidence as the magical ingredient that turns thoughts into actions (simple!) and then show how to go about building it。 Examples are things like trying out for a school team, recovering after getting rejected, having a courageous conversation with a friend。 We need this book! Anxiety, depression, and loneliness are skyrocketing。 Especially amongst young people。 Yet this book is a balm。 Super easy to read with a ton of comics and dialogue peppered throughout。 。。。more

This book is absolutely outstanding! It teaches kid ps how to be confident and true to themselves without being tacky and not relating to children。 It includes real stories of things girls went through and has activities that help boost confidence while still being fun。 Overall I think that not only is this a good book, if you have a girl at home who is struggling with confidence you must get her this book。 Whether you’re reading it with your daughter or she’s reading it on her own this is absol This book is absolutely outstanding! Thoughtful book for young tweens and teens with positive suggestions on ways to get you over worrying about issues that come up and ways to not only get over current issues and dilemmas but positive suggestions how to better direct your life。 Something I will have my daughter's read when they are old enough。 Thoughtful book for young tweens and teens with positive suggestions on ways to get you over worrying about issues that come up and ways to not only get over current issues and dilemmas but positive suggestions how to better direct your life。 Something I will have my daughter's read when they are old enough。 。。。more

I really enjoyed reading this with my daughter。 Some content was a little above her head (i。e。 she doesn’t have a phone and I want to shield her from the social world for a few more years 😆), but I really enjoyed how it opened up some great conversations between us。 The parts that spoke to her the most seemed to be navigating drama/perfectionism, and pushing herself to take more risks。 I thought maybe she’d be too cool to read with me or prefer to read it on her own, but she chose to read it wit I really enjoyed reading this with my daughter。 Some content was a little above her head (i。e。 she doesn’t have a phone and I want to shield her from the social world for a few more years 😆), but I really enjoyed how it opened up some great conversations between us。 The parts that spoke to her the most seemed to be navigating drama/perfectionism, and pushing herself to take more risks。 I thought maybe she’d be too cool to read with me or prefer to read it on her own, but she chose to read it with me every time, which was an honor。 As a mom, I loved the Girls Of Action snippets and the diversity presented throughout。 Great work! 。。。more

Every middle school girl should read this book。 Women should read The Confidence Code-the Science and Art of Self-Assurance by the same author。 I would recommend that mothers read the book before giving it to their daughters and that they plan to discuss it with the girls。

This book just doesn't work in audio format。 It has long lists of numbered and lettered items。 So long you forget what the point was by the time you get to #10。 It might work better in book/workbook form, but not this way。 I know I am not at all the target audience, so I am going to refrain from giving it a star rating。Most of the book is long lists of numbered and lettered options on scenarios and responses to scenarios with brief discussion before moving on to another list。 This book just doesn't work in audio format。 It has long lists of numbered and lettered items。 So long you forget what the point was by the time you get to #10。 It might work better in book/workbook form, but not this way。 I know I am not at all the target audience, so I am going to refrain from giving it a star rating。Most of the book is long lists of numbered and lettered options on scenarios and responses to scenarios with brief discussion before moving on to another list。 。。。more

I read this book to preview it before giving it to my 11 year old daughter to read。 I was delighted to find a book that focuses on changing the mindset of girls to become their most powerful and confident selves。 It was very inspiring and offered realistic strategies that girls can use。 I did have one concern while reading。 I am worried that the intended audience may be easily influenced by some of the subject matter, especially since the book is about girls who are overthinkers。 Girls may read I read this book to preview it before giving it to my 11 year old daughter to read。 I was delighted to find a book that focuses on changing the mindset of girls to become their most powerful and confident selves。 It was very inspiring and offered realistic strategies that girls can use。 I did have one concern while reading。 I am worried that the intended audience may be easily influenced by some of the subject matter, especially since the book is about girls who are overthinkers。 Girls may read about a "problem behavior" that they didn't even know to worry about, and pick up a new stressor。 Fortunately when the book addressed these behaviors, they went into thorough detail about how to change your mindset, why these problems exist, and how to move past them。 At first, I was very worried about my daughter reading some sections, especially knowing how she overthinks things and has the tendency to adopt new problems as she hears about them and is trying to discover who she is, but as I kept reading I felt confident that the authors put a lot of careful thought into how the issues are addressed。 I just feel it is justified to give a warning to parents before they hand this book over。 Ultimately, I am still going to encourage my daughter to read this and incorporate many of the valuable lessons inside。 。。。more

A great version of the adult book for teenagers。 I will encourage all of my children (two boys and a girl) to read it as they near middle school。 The book makes difficult concepts easy to understand, provides mental engagement through predictions/quizzes, and makes the concepts real with scenarios and real-life examples。 The book tackles a wide range of issues such as self-perception, health, bullying, metacognition, social media, LBGTQ, bias in the media, and activism。 My only concern was the e A great version of the adult book for teenagers。 I will encourage all of my children (two boys and a girl) to read it as they near middle school。 The book makes difficult concepts easy to understand, provides mental engagement through predictions/quizzes, and makes the concepts real with scenarios and real-life examples。 The book tackles a wide range of issues such as self-perception, health, bullying, metacognition, social media, LBGTQ, bias in the media, and activism。 My only concern was the explicit calls for readers to “get on their phones” and some of the vernacular that will likely date the book despite the ideas being applicable for years or decades to come。 。。。more

My partner and I read this over a few weeks to our daughter。 I loved the strategies to improve confidence。 The excerpts from actual girls lives helped my daughter relate to what was being said。 Some of the sections were really more for older girls (older than my daughter,I mean)。 I appreciate, too, that there is a whole section of both sources and resources in the back。 We plan on waiting a few months and re-reading it and seeing what she gets from it with time。 (4。5/5)
